Shakvail: Beginnings is a novella written by Mechalich. The story concerns the discovery of the Force sensitive Safol child Shakvail and her subsequent development into a Jedi Knight.

Preface

In the consciousness of the galaxy the Jedi Knight strides forth fully formed, bearing robes and a lightsaber with the will to defend the innocent and strike down evil. The popular perception, encouraged by the Jedi Order, hides the truth behind shining energy blades and stalwart deeds of heroism. In truth, the way of the Jedi is among the most challenging in the galaxy, and none reaches it swiftly or with ease. Rather each is forged through a crucible of discipline, struggle, and the Force. This is the story of how one Jedi Knight came to be.

Summary

Shakvail: Beginnings is the origin story of Shakvail, a Safol Jedi Knight who seeks the mystery of her own origins and that of Humanity itself. The story passes through her earliest episodes to her first true exploits as a Jedi Knight, only a few short years before the onset of the Clone Wars. Guided by her master, Z'meer Bothu, Shakvail must confront herself, her origins, and what it means to become a Jedi.

Shakvail: Beginnings came to be as a lead in to a larger project, still in development, regarding the adventurers of a Jedi Knight on Denon, and the crucial role this will eventually play in the Republic as the Clone Wars emerge. It was produced during January 2012.
