The Seventy-Second Republic Battle Group was a battle group of the Republic Navy formed during the New Sith Wars to fight Zirist Lakalt and his empire in the southern galaxy. It included the Jedi praxeum ship Crescentia and hundreds of Jedi. Under the command of Admiral Whoork, the Seventy-Second secured a number of victories against Lakalt, including the Battle of Malastare.
The Seventy-Second was explicitly constituted as a limited-purpose, regional force; Tirien Kal-Di felt that, despite the Battle Group's strength, it was woefully unequipped to face the full might of Sith Overlord Vedya Gasald's invasion fleet during the Conquest of Milagro. After Darshkére killed Lakalt and usurped his empire, the Seventy-Second tried to force a decisive engagement and end the empire forever. Darshkére fled Sullust, but when the Seventy-Second pursued him to Eriadu, Gasald's fleet emerged from hyperspace and trapped the battle group. The resulting battle was a slaughter, and the entire battle group was destroyed.
