The Seven Deaths, called Septymirtiskut by the Tsis (Old Sith compound word derived from septy meaning "seven"[1] and mirtiskut meaning "deaths"[1][2]), was a star system in the East Spinward sector that was home to the planet Azarac and its only moon, Lune. The system was unique in that it sat above the galactic plane, distant from the clusters that once birthed its star.[3]
Originally home to a set of six other worlds, the system was the location of a series of experiments by Rakatans of the Infinite Empire, who turned their terraforming space station and xenoforming station on the other planets in failed attempts at terraformation, converting these worlds to an extensive asteroid field that littered the system for millennia afterwards. The system got its name from the destruction of these six worlds and the devastation of Azarac's surface by a prolonged Rakatan orbital bombardment several millennia later.[3]
Due to its Predors' xenophobia and paranoia, the Seven Deaths was among the most fortified systems in the galaxy. Main of its largest asteroids were home to naval bases and observation posts constructed by the Rakata to monitor and intercept all incoming and outgoing vessels. Others hosted mining facilities that ensured Azarac's Rakata garrison was as self-reliant as possible and independent of Lehon rule. Those asteroids too small to support such colonies formed part of an extensive tracking grid, hosting beacons on their surfaces that provided information about foreign objects in the vicinity. As such, sneaking into the system was next to impossible for most conventional spacecraft of the era.
With the expulsion of the Infinite Empire from Azarac at the hands of the Red Sith Asmenys, the Rakata abandoned their facilities in the Seven Deaths system. Though they fell into disuse and decay in the ensuing twenty millennia,[3] many were restored and expanded upon by the Tsis. The Rakatan ships that formed the backbone of the Tsis armada were retrieved from the asteroid bases. Though the Tsis eventually settled several dozen worlds of the East Spinward sector, it was estimated that close to 90% of the collective population resided in the Seven Deaths, manning the bases and posts of the asteroid field just as the Rakata had done.
Behind the scenes[]
The name of the system was intended as a tribute to Las Cinco Muertes, the island chain that served as the setting for the Jurassic Park novels and films.
