The Separatist Republic of Corthenia was the government of the Corthenia system in the Mid Rim from 23 BBY until 11 BBY.

Its capital city was Corthenisi, which had a population of around 500,000 Humans as of 11 BBY and was mostly comprised of quartz towers and palaces.

History[]

The government was formed after a pro-Separatist movement on the planet succeeded in overthrowing the humanocentric monarchy that ruled Corthenia for millennia. It was initially part of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, however after 19 BBY remained active as an isolationist military state that strictly enforced their isolation by attacking any and all foreign starships passing through their system. Anomalies surrounding the Corthenia system prevented the Galactic Empire from imposing its will on the Corthenians, though eventually the system's hostilities forced Imperial strategists to prioritize an invasion of the system. In 11 BBY, the Imperial Navy initiated a campaign into the Corthenia system and within months the Separatist Republic of Corthenia was dismantled, though many of its military personnel continued fighting the Imperials as insurgents.

Government, military, and culture[]

The Separatist Republic of Corthenia was ruled by an elected Premier of Corthenia and a council of eight Magistrates, who each also served as governors of Corthenia's eight largest settlements.

The government's armed forces consisted of the "Corthenian Separatist Army", whose infantrymen were equipped in blue formal uniforms (ironically similar to that of the Republic Judicial Forces) and imported E-5 blaster rifles; they were supported by various models of armed land speeders. Space security was carried out by Munificent-class frigates and one Lucrehulk-class battleship given to the Corthenians by the CIS.

Corthenian culture was nearly identical to Onderonian culture, due in part to the fact that Corthenia was first discovered and settled by Onderonian Humans (Corthenia was even named after the city Kortena on Onderon), however also shared cultural norms with Alderaan and Coruscant. Basic was the most common language on Corthenia, however the Corthenian language was also spoken, which was a dialect of the traditional Onderonian language (itself having descended from Old Alderaanian). Corthenia's staple food was a type of soup comprising hard bread, thin strips of various fish, and herbs in seasoned, thickened cattle milk.
