I cannot believe war has come again.
—Jason Striker, Grandmaster of the Jedi Order
The Second Mandalorian Wars was a conflict that occured exactly fifteen years after the Jedi Civil War and ten years after the First Jedi Purge. The Mandalorian Empire fought against the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic for three years before the Treaty of Coruscant was signed. The outcome of the war brought the Galactic Coalition between the Jedi, the Republic, and the Mandalorians and intergalactic peace. It was named the Second Mandalorian Wars after the First Mandalorian Wars. The Mandalorians were once again defeated.
Rise of the Mandalorians[]
The Mandalorians grew in power while the Republic and Jedi recovered from the First Jedi Purge. They raised their fleets into a power to be reckoned with. The Mandalorians started to take several planets near Mandalore and declared various parts of the Republic under Mandalorian control. The base on Dxun was increased in size; they became a target. The Sith, still hidden and rebuilding under Darth Hawken, attacked the base on Dxun around 3,946 BBY. The Sith stole a Republic fleet and framed the Jedi. They preceeded to attack the Mandalorian moon of Dxun. Many Mandalorians were killed in the battle and the 'Republic' attack was succesful.
Soon after, the attacks of Darth Hawken against the Republic began. In a year, he had taken over the galaxy and destroyed the Republic; the Second Jedi Purge began. The Mandalorians stayed quiet and didn't bother the Sith Empire and Emperor Hawken. Hawken's apprentice, Lord Aurelius, killed his master and assumed control. The conquest of the Mandalorians to purge the galaxy of Sith tyranny had begun. It started with the Battle of Ord Mantell. But then, out of no where, Aurelius left command of the galaxy and bomarded all of the planets under their control. He then retreated to Korriban and named it the Sith capital. Later, he turned back to the Light Side in the middle of the war.
Start of Hostilities[]
The Second Mandalorian Wars were started when the Mandalorians attacked a group of Jedi and Republic soldiers on a rescue mission on Yavin IV. A third of the Mandalorian Grand Fleet came out of hyperspace and threatened the small Republic cohart of ships. When the Jedi replied with a no to surrender, the Mandalorians attacked and blew the Republic ships to Oblivion. Reinforcements arrived quickly for the Republic, leaving the Core Worlds defensless.
The First Battle of Coruscant[]
Mandalore gave command of rest of the Mandalorian fleets to then Staff Sergeant Rikenn Tarbann who was ordered to attack Coruscant. The battle was fierce and quick but the Mandalorians took heavy losses. Within hours, the planet was taken and the Mandalorians had crushed the Republic. The Republic capital and the Jedi Order moved to the nearby planet as Corellia. There they headed an assualt on the Mandalorians where they would take Coruscant back and push the Mandalorians into their own space.
Retaking Coruscant[]
Let's get these bastards!
—Republic Captain Koka Jun
This battle was the most devestating for the Mandalorians in terms of defeat. The small Republic fleet and Jedi regrouped on Corellia, the new Republic capital. After three months of the war -- and nearly no hostilities excluding small skirmashes -- the Republic and Jedi fleet countered the attack of Coruscant and attempted to take it back. The Mandalorians had been lead to the Outer Rim where they had thought a large Republic army was forming under the command of Jason Striker and Mortork Onli, two powerful Jedi Masters. With Coruscant defended by a small army and several capital ships, the Galactic Republic started the Second Battle of Coruscant.
The Republic started by assualting the orbiting capital ships. Two were soon destroyed; the space battle started. Another vessel had been taken over from the inside as the rest of the Mandalorian fleet came to assist their precious world. The Republic forces landed on the planet subsequently. They started to wipe out AA guns and anti-infantry weapons that the Mandorians had set up. The Jedi stormed many small bunkers and keep pushing the Mandalorians back to their command post. Three unsuccesful counterattacks by the Mandalorians resulted in a retreat of the planet. The last of the forces met heavy resistence in space. The last space battle was a great victory for the Mandalorians. They had destroyed nearly five Republic capital ships and many more fighters and transports.
New Allies[]
When the war started, each side sought out many allies to gain an edge over their enemy. The Mandalorians looked towards an intergalactic crime syndacite called the Exchange as their biggest ally. The Republic had contacted the Chiss Ascendancy for needed aid. The alliances were small and didn't help much which caused both sides to drop relationships with their said allies.
Failed Invasion of Mandalore[]
After the recapture of Coruscant, the senators demanded to strike the Mandalorians at their heart like they did to them. Jaiden Solis, formally the Dark Lord named Aurelius, had returned to the Light Side and was voted in as the new Supreme Chancellor. Also being a Jedi General, he took command of many forces. Jaiden agreed with the senators' plea and asked the Jedi Council for permission. They also agreed and the set date was for the invasion two standard weeks from then. That was too long, however, and the Mandalorian Department of Intelliagance and Reconnasience had found the plan out. They sent a threat to the Republic stating, "we have ten times your craft stationed on Mandalore. Just try to invade." The senate again voted and the invasion was called off.
Operation: Crossroads[]
Lieutenant Bage Nylos, use extreme prejudice on the worlds of the conquest. Kill all men, women and children resisting. Do not underestimate anyone...you have my terms, do what is neccessary. Farewell and Safe Journey.
—Jaster Mereel, Mandalore of the Second Mandalorian Wars
Operation: Crossroads was a codename for the Mandalorian conquest of the Outer Rim. AFter the loss of Coruscant, Mandalore ordered Bage Nylos to take 300,000 soldiers and almost half of the fleet and take Republic held worlds and various others in the name of the Empire. Some of the most important men under Bage Nylos' command were Rikenn Tarbann, Scion, and Kessam Prun. All three were brave and honorable men; all were good friends of Bage.
The Battles of Eos and Mustafar[]
In the beginning, the Mandalorians needed many minerals and parts to aid in repairing and creating new ships and weapons. Two planets served as a great source of these minerals. They were the planets of Eos and Mustafar. The Mandalorians first invaded Eos and with great success. Several hundred soldiers were killed and for each Mandalorians that fell, five times of the defending faction fell. The planet quickly sucumbed to the indomitable force of the Mandalorian Armed Forces.
Mustafar was more well defended, on the other, because of reports of the attack on Eos. The Mustafar government felt that they were a target and increased their defenses. In their main base, the Mustafar government set up six very large, anti-aircraft guns. Before the Mandalorian fleet could attempt an invasion, two groups of spec ops had to take the guns out. The AA guns were stored in large warehouses guarded by well-trained mercenaries which included Trandoshans and Rodians. The first force was led by Captain Bage Nylos and the other was led by 2nd Leuitenant Rikenn Tarbann.
Rikenn's inexperianced team leading had serious consequences. While Bage was able to distrectly take out the guns, Rikenn had let the group become noticed by the guards and soon the rest of the base was alerted to the Mandalorians' presence. Nonetheless, the job was done and the grand fleet was able to invade the planet and take Mustafar. The battle wasn't as intense as previously thought. The casualties were less than Eos and the resistence was almost none. Within time, the Mandalorians had taken another planet.
The First Battle of Utapau[]
The Mandalorian forces under Bage Nylos were very succesful during the war. The biggest battle during Operation: Crossroads was the Battle of Utapau. Utapau was a key planet for the Republic for staging attacks in the Outer Rim. The Mandalorians knew this and took their location on Mustafar, which is near Utapau, to attack. A Jedi Enclave upon the planet was built to recruit Jedi for the war; a Republic military base and academy were both set up for the same purpose. Mandalorian intel had taken the count of Jedi at 2,968 and the count of Republic soldiers at 15,980. The Mandalorians thought this would be an easy battle.
The Mandalorian fleet rolled out of hyperspace three standard months before the year 3,940. They entered the orbit and destroyed three capital ships. The Republic soon retaliated with a devestating blow to Mandalore the Ultimate, one of the greatest ships in the galaxy. It crashed into an orbital station. The station went haywire and started its slow descent onto the planet below. It crashed into a major city, killing several hundred Jedi and thousands of Republic and Mandalorian troops.
The Nyloa, the flagship of the fleet commanded by Bage Nylos, broke the Republic line and, with three other capital ships, landed on Utapau. They rolled out their troops of the ships and started to engage in a large ground battle. The battlefield was a gargantuan stripe of land in between the crash site of the orbital station and the capital city. The Mandalorians advanced far during this attack. Soon, they were pushed back by 7,000 Republic troops and 1,000 Jedi. The 10,000 orignal Mandalorians that landed had dwindled to 6,000, with 1,576 wounded. The Republic soon pushed the Mandalorians back to their four capital ships. While retreated into space, the Republic shot down one of the capital ships. The rest of the fleet had been ordered to fall back to Mustafar.
A Second Attempt at Utapau[]
A small portion of the Mandalorian fleet was wiped out during the First Battle of Utapau. The Republic had suffered very little loss of life or ship, omiting the orbital station. The Mandalorians, after the major loss, were determined to take Utapau and kill every single Republic soldier and Jedi on the planet. After two weeks of regrouping the forces, Bage Nylos hastly commanded the fleets to attack Utapau, again. This time, the Republic were unaware.
The Mandalorian fleet came out of nowhere and the Republic had no time to react. They wiped out most of the orbital defenses while the rest of the ships scattered into the empty void of space.. The Mandalorians landed on the planet in hours destroying all the enemies in their path. They directly attack the capital city with brute force, causing several surrenders, all which were ignored. The Mandalorians killed all, whether they were fighting or surrendering or wounded. They showed no mercy. When Bage Nylos was about to declare the planet under Mandalorian control, Jedi Master Quivi Hurann challenged him to a duel. He honorably accepted at the terms of leaving or staying. The duel was fierce and long; it lasted nearly two hours. The soldiers watched as almost all fighting had ceased. Bage had weakened the Jedi Master down to the point where he was on the ground with no arm and no weapon. As he begged for mercy, Bage stepped on his head and broke his neck and skull. The planet of Utapau was in Mandalorian hands.
Chasing the Republic[]
The Battle of Tatooine was a small skirmash between a Mandaloria Vanguard cruiser, its crew and the fleeing Republic fleet from Utapau. The Battle was quick and small but it was a devastating blow to the Republic and Jedi. Several hundred Jedi died in the battle along with two thousand Republic troops. But the Mandalorians didn't finish the job of destroying the fleeing Republic at Tatooine.
Mandalore ordered to further pursue the Republic fleet. About five days after the Battle of Tatooine, the Mandalorians traced the Republic to the ecumenopolis world of Mygeeto. The Mandalorian Grand Fleet surrounded the planet. They began to assualt the planet in a very aggresive manner. The Republic didn't stand a chance, and by the end of the day, the planet was under Mandalorian control. After two full weeks of no Republic resistance, the Mandalorians felt it was safe enough to return most of their forces back to Utapau.
The Third Battle of Utapau[]
This battle is considered the downfall of the Mandalorian attacks and war. The Third Battle of Utapau started the Purging Campaign for the Republic. Two-thirds of the Republic fleet, along with a small Jedi fleet, had been assembled for one purpose: driving the Mandalorians from the Outer Rim. The Republic began the attack by fire three large ion blasts at the Nyloa.
After the Nyloa, had been disabled, the Republic fleet engaged the rest of teh orbiting ships. The countless dogfights ended when the Nyloa was operational again and destroyed two Republic capital ships and a Jedi freighter. The space battle wiped out half of the ships under Bage's command and only a small portion of the Republic and Jedi ships. The Republic broke their formation and landed on the planet. The space battle ended when the Republic ships took Utapau and the rest of the Mandalorian fleet escaped.
The battle for the planet was two days long. The casualties were horrific for both sides, but in the end, it was a battle well spent for the Republic. The Jedi had lost most of the men and women they had sent. For each Jedi that fell, three more Mandalorians died. The urban combat mostly fought on Utapau was the prime reason, next to Coruscant and Corellia, that the Jedi and Republic troops needed to learn more about it. They had been taught a small bit of urban warfare after the First Battle of Coruscant and it came in handy here.
Battling continued until after the war but no major battles were again fought for this key planet. Fighting was officially ended when the Treaty of Honor was signed aboard the Ravage two weeks after the Treaty of Coruscant was signed.
The Battle of Dagary Minor[]
The Mandalorians again visited Dagary Minor during this second war. The Republic, after taking Utapau, were chasing the fleeing Mandalorian fleet. They had taken the planet from the local government and were using it as a base of operations since the beginning of the war. The Republic fleet tracked them to Dagary Minor; they were preparing to destroy the Mandalorians. The Mandalorian intel had already known about the attack so they called for reinforcements.
The Republic was very naïve when attacking Dagary Minor. The battle began when three Republic capital ships attempted to assualt the lone capital ship orbiting the planet. That was a mistake. The Mandalorians expected that so they laid a trap. Out of no where, five more Mandalorian capital ships followed by hundreds of fighters and transports attacked the three Republic ships. They were overwhelmed almost immediately and forced to call for reinforcements. The rest of the Republic fleet defended their damaged vessels and a large-scale space battle broke out. The Mandalorians quickly boarded several ships and captured them. The remaining fleet retreated back to Utapau.
The Battle of Sullust[]
The last major battle of Operation: Crossroads, the Battle of Sullust was caused when the Mandalorians attacked a Republic fleet re-supplying on the planet. The fleet was sent to aid the ships in Utapau. They had stopped to repair several ships and re-supply their soldiers. The fleet was led by Jedi Master Koras Foreinga. The Mandalorians ambushed them while most of the ships were docked or off duty. The fleet was nearly wiped out by the attack.
The Mandalorians started by attacking the space dock where many Republic ships were. The only problem was that the dock also had many civilians on it. The Republic hid there hoping the Mandalorians would back down because of civilians. The Republic made a huge mistake by hiding behind innocent citizens; the Mandalorians attacked anyway. The dock was virtually blown off of the map in hours and the Republic was in disarray. The remaining ships scrambled to attack but they were soon overwhelmed. Mandalore called an end to Operation: Crossroads after this battle stating that, "the Mandalorians had taken the Outer Rim."
An Assassination Attempt[]
Shortly after the beginning of Operation: Crossroads, the Jedi had decided that Jaster's life needed to be taken. The entire Jedi Council was against it but they knew the threat he faced and capturing him would be an open invitation to re-invade Coruscant. They pleaded their case to the Senate who also agreed. The Jedi immediately sent three Knights and a Master, all very well known to the Republic, and the Mandalorians.
They traveled far into space, scouting out the way. They traveled to Onderon and stayed there, knowing the Mandalorians' history with its moon. The four Jedi took a recon mission to the moon and found the base. The cohort infiltrated the base quietly, looking for Mandalore. The mission failed when Mandalore's two guards found the Jedi right before they were going to kill Mandalore. A small skirmash broke out resulting in all of the Jedi's lives and seven Mandalorians'.
Closing Days of the War[]
Ending Crossroads was a big mistake on the Mandalorians' part. Even though they had taken many planets and fractured the Republic army and navy, they left their worlds of conquest defenseless. There were rebellions on the planets and Republic attacks. The Mandalorians couldn't defend themselves on both fronts, from the Outer Rim and the Core Worlds. The war turned sour from this point on.
The Battle of Naboo[]
The Mandalorians planned to strike back. The recently captured world of Sullust provided a marvelous staging point for an attack against Naboo, another key Republic world. The Mandalorians started the attack by bombing the orbital defenses. The plan seemed to work as they landed ground troops in hours. Mandalore led this attack and it was magnificant. The Mandalorians lost their edge when a group of several hundred police and army forces of the Naboo government formed an underground resistence. They attacked the Mandalorians with hit-and-run guerrilla tactics that crippled the their forces. After three weeks of bloody fighting, the Republic sent a battle fleet to aid. The Mandalorians were soon driven off.
Mission to Onderon[]
The Mission to Onderon was a plan to take revenge for what happened at Naboo. The Mandalorians sent Bage Nylos, Rikenn Tarbann, and three other soldiers disguised as tourists to the key military world of Onderon. They were to scout out the city's defenses and the Republic militant presence. Two small gunfights accured on this planet when a Mandalorian defector recognized the soldiers without their uniforms on; the second was a fight between Rikenn and the bar tender at the Cantina.
The first shot was fired when a former Mandalorian soldier, who was working for the Republic looking for recon soldiers, noticed five familiar faces. He confronted their leader, who he presumed was Bage Nylos, and shot at one of the Mandalorians. A fight broke out in the streets with many people just siding with the person they were closest to. The gunfight ended when soldiers from nearby barracks attacked the defector who started it all. They hadn't realized who he was until the autopsy. The Republic was upset when the found out their greatest assest to finding Mandalorians was dead.
The second fight broke out when Rikenn was cheated out of credits. He, having a short fuse, pulled his Mandalorian Heavy Pistol on the bar tender. The bar tender knew that is was a Mandalorian gun and he called for some thugs to come. Rikenn killed the bar tender which trigered a full-scale riot in the Merchant Square. By the time it was over, Bage, Rikenn, and the others were long gone. They had gotten the information they needed.
The Battle of Onderon[]
This has to be the bloodiest battle of the war.
—Bage Nylos commenting on the space battle
After recieving the information from the recon mission to Onderon, the Mandalorians planned to strike the biggest Republic they had ever faced. The entire Mandalorian fleet was called to attack Onderon during this crucial battle. It turned out to be the last major battle of the Second Mandalorian Wars. The Republic anticipated an attack and grew its forces around Onderon, making it the most heavily defended world in the galaxy. The entire battle was in space, though.
The Mandalorians came out of hyperspace too close to the planet, causing the Republic to blooster their defenses and get a majority of the fleet into space. The Republic met the Mandalorians in space battle, becoming the bloodiest space of the war. The Mandalorian capital ships attempted to go into stealth mode and surprisingly flank the enemy ships. The idea didn't work and the three capital ships were blown into oblivion. The Mandalorians attempted it again with more capital ships but were overwhelmed again.
The Mandalorians went into stealth mode, but this time they tried to land on the planet. This was another strategic mistake. Seven Republic capital ships guarded the atmosphere of the planet and the Mandalorians fell right into their trap. The Nyloa was the first ship to go, becoming damged an floating away in space along with its crew and its commander, Captain Bage Nylos. Next was Mandalore's ship, the Ressap. After the two command ships were lost, the Mandalorians were lost. The Mandalorians tried to retreat, but a small Republic fleet came out of hyperspace to trap the fleeing Mandalorian fleet. The Mandalorians were soon outnumbered almost 10 to 1. Rikenn Tarbann managed to get his destroyer into hyperspace while most of the ships were destroyed. Many Mandalorians and Republic troops died in this space battle.
The MIA's[]
After the Battle of Onderon, many MIA's and KIA's of important people began to pile up. Some of these were Bage Nylos and Jaster Mereel. It took two weeks for the Mandalorians to figure out the status of the two. This delievered a major blow to the Mandalorians who were left leaderless. The last big attack was lead by Sarin and Cappanel who were accompanied by Rikenn Tarbann, the next Mandalore. The status quo of the war had changed dramatically.
The Treaty of Coruscant[]
Two months after the Battle of Onderon and the lose of Bage Nylos and Mandalore, the Mandalorians voted in a new leader. His name was Rikenn Tarbann. Shortly after his inauguration, he was subsequently invited to Coruscant for a cease fire. He had seen enough of war; he wanted a cease fire as much as the rest of the glaaxy did. He landed on Coruscant three days after his invitation and was immdeiately escorted to the proper location. There, he shook hands with Mortok Onli and Jaiden Solis as a sign of peace and friendship. The three signed the Treaty of Coruscant officially ending the Second Mandalorian Wars.
