Project Cruentus

These mongrels...these feral barbarians...they feel that they can actually stand up to us. Ivran and Vlad, I leave this task to you. Do not just defeat them; humiliate them...crush them...make them kneel before us and beg for mercy. And when they do, show them none.
Jasef Yuiln

The Second Battle of Sevastopolitan was a battle of the Cruentusian War. It occurred when the Srav Federation moved to retake the world of Sevastopolitan, taken from it by the Taung Confederacy shortly before. A taskforce led by top Srav commander Ivran Gresev and radiation weapons specialist Vlad Mutin moved in, and the Taungs, assuming that the Sravs would perform landings on the planet, dug in. However, the Sravs saturated the areas of the planet where they were with nuclear and radiation weapons, before landing and finishing them off.

Prelude[]

Mandalore the Uniter, knowing that the Srav Federation would not let the Battle of Sevastopolitan go unanswered, had secretly begun evacuating troops from Sevastopolitan, leaving only a token force to maintain the appearance of occupation. Taung Intelligence soon discovered that the Srav were launching an enormous fleet to retake Sevastopolitan, and that this mass build up left several key worlds undefended, including Volgis, a key industrial planet.

Knowing; however, that most of the build up was merely for show, Mandalore instead gave the Armada orders to make a thrust through Srav space, and attack Sviat, the capital of the Srav Federation, leaving Elder Skardan Karanga in command of the Taung forces on Sevastopolitan. Skardan Karanga was a high ranking member of the Taung government, and one of Mandalore's personal friends, giving him the utmost confidence of Mandalore.

Skardan, under the orders of Mandalore, began to form and train a fleet that would be able to defend Sevastopolitan from attack until the forces that were dispatched to assault Sviat returned. The fleet was made ready, and Skardan began to work on a defense project of his personal design, one that later would give the Taung a crucial advantage when dealing with enemies in their own territory, a giant space station that would serve both as a garrison and a fuel, supply, and defense station of enormous power.

Fortunately for Skardan, he had thousands of captive Srav to build this station, ensuring that no Taung lives were lost during the treacherous building process. With the Karanga Station completed, it appeared that Sevastopolitan was protected from any sort of attempted landing on the planet's surface. If only that was what the Srav had in mind for the Taung forces on Sevastopolitan.

The battle[]

Arrival[]

Fortunately for the Taung, Karanga Station was completed when the immense flotilla of Srav warships emerged from hyperspace. The Taung; however, were not alone. A small Taung Armada Battlegroup emerged from hyperspace as well, accompanied by a flotilla compiled of their subjects, the Zhell. Taung Shard Fighters were launched from Karanga Station to combat the Srav fleet, resulting in the destruction of several Srav Cruisers, and the obliteration of several Srav fighter squadrons.

As the Taung fighters pulled back from the oncoming fleet, the Srav Cruisers and fighters closed in on Karanga Station, and attempted to destroy it, firing missiles and flak continually at it, but to no avail. The station was virtually invincible as it was constructed out the famous, and rare metal that could be found only on Dxun, Onderon, and Mandalore, Beskar'gam. Several Srav cruisers were destroyed, but at a cost, for several squads of the lighter Taung Listor Fighters were destroyed as well.

As the opposing fighters weaved in and out of the range of fire, the opposing cruisers closed in to fire as well, resulting in the deaths of many soldiers on both sides of the battle. The fighting continued, eventually the two sides were caught between an asteroid field, but the Srav had known this would happen, and had hidden several battalions of fighter planes within the field. Knowing the time was right, the Srav fighters concealed within the field emerged, ambushing the unsuspecting Taung forces.

The fighting continued to degenerate as both sides became desperate for a total victory. Srav reinforcements appeared, but were cut off by the Taung forces. Waves of fighters were launched by the Srav ships, but to no avail. Deciding to cut their losses, the Srav began to flee the fighting. Taung shard fighters wove in and out of the carnage, many retreating Srav fighters were destroyed.

Final wave[]

Unfortunately for the Taung, Jasef Yuiln, the supreme overlord of the Srav Federation, sent a communique to the Srav commanders, and shamed by their leader's comments, halted the retreat. The Srav began to fight once again. Srav reinforcements came in every hour. It began to seem that the Srav were going to win purely because of their overwhelming numerical superiority, just as would later happen on Volgis.

Eventually, the Srav managed to destroy the swarms of Taung fighters, and began once again to advance upon Karanga Station, obliterating the retreating Taung fighters. More and more Srav fighters were launched at the Taung, and the Taung managed to hold them at bay. The Srav cruisers began to assault the Taung, and the two lines of cruisers exchanged fire, killing many, and destroying much.

The superior firepower, technology, and armor of the Taung warships managed to give them a short advantage, and allowing them to launch another wave of fighters. Dogfights once again broke out between the interweaving ships. The Taung fighters eventually began to break through the Srav lines, but after serious fighting were deterred, and forced to retreat back to the cruisers.

The tide began to turn once again. Taung cruisers began to punch through the Srav lines, with even more fighters, which had been launched from Karanga Station, followed. As more Taung warships began to break through their lines, the Srav commanders began to plan their actions, and their retreat. With the Srav fleet in disarray, the Srav commanders began their retreat, but not before leaving the Taung a present. Sevastopolitan was nuked from orbit, obliterating the Taung garrison.

Aftermath[]

The Second Battle of Sevastopolitan was trumpeted across the galaxy as a great victory for the Srav. Sevastopolitan had been nuked, and the Taung were forced to evacuate the planet's surface, but at a cost. For both sides had enormous casualties, and an already desolate planet was made unihabitable, while the Taung leader, Mandalore the Uniter, began preparing for a thrust, which he believed would end the Srav presence in the Cruentusian War, and would triple the size of the Taung Confederacy. The Taung were on the move.
