The Second Battle of Milagro, sometimes called the Liberation of Milagro by pro-Republic Milagroan historians, was an engagement between the Galactic Republic and the New Sith Empire forces of Vedya Gasald in 1,386 BBY. Jedi Knight Mali Darakhan led a joint Republic-Corellian-Tapani-Duros coalition totaling some 780 capital ships and their ground complements, plus twenty-nine Jedi Knights and Padawans (including himself) against the Sith force occupying Milagro, commanded by Lord Halicon Karzded.
Prepared for Battle[]
After Gasald conquered Allanteen Six, gaining its shipyards and another step closer to the Inner Rim on the Corellian Run, Corellia began to consider various options to protect itself, many of which might have worked against the larger interests of the Republic. To avert that possibility, Darakhan assembled a broad coalition fleet to take Milagro, a crucial production world which would supply the Allanteen shipyards. Darakhan was aided by Jedi Master Elata Cazars, Senator Jendaya Rose, and Tapani Jedi Knights Raven and Raina Kaivalt, all of whom helped secure him the force he needed.
Unable to take Gasald head-on at Allanteen, Darakhan was forced to attack Milagro from a different direction, sneaking up the Enarc Run and the Harrin Trade Corridor to strike the planet from the only direction Gasald did not control. He was aided in this by Yan Razam and her fighter squadron from the Seventy-Second Republic Battle Group, which went ahead of the fleet to clear Gasald's gravity mines.
Liberation[]
Despite his numerical superiority, Darakhan employed his fleet conservatively at Milagro to minimize casualties. By the second day of battle the Sith fleet was either taken or demolished, and Darakhan led one of many ground assaults. Republic Intelligence fed data into Milagro's local information networks, and news of the overwhelming Republic assault led several Milagro Resistance groups to launch their own attacks on the distracted Sith, further demolishing the Sith defense.
On the third day of battle, Darakhan and his Republic Marines captured Rogeum, and Darakhan personally slew Halicon Karzded in a duel. Karzded's death, and the subsequent captures of Lord Kysl Ssron and Prime Minister Deordis Bevrelles, hamstrung the Sith defense, and by the end of the third day the majority of fighting was over. A few pockets of Sith troops fought to the death rather than surrender; Darakhan and Aldayr Nikodon routed the last of them on the fifth day of battle.
Aftermath[]
The Republic victory led to the formation of an interim government led by Zemma Rufos, and a permanent government some eighty days after the battle following a general election. However, a new resistance to the Republic emerged, causing difficulties for the Republic and the Milagroan administration.
