Sandrella Kira was a member of the House of Kira and the Royal Family of Onderon, therefore bearing the formal name Princess Sandrella of Onderon, also nicknamed Princess Sandy by friends and comrades. Being younger than her brother Modon, heir to the throne, she was sent to the Imperial Naval Academy on Prefsbelt IV by her father and later served as an Imperial pilot aboard the Angry Eagle.
In 5 ABY, she was shown on the sixth recruitment poster by Imperial propaganda artist Flyff Antilles named Imperial Recruitment 2 – Autopilot's where the FUN begins! lolling on a seat of her ship's cockpit half-undressed of an appealing version of her regular uniform.

Sandrella Kira is based on the Star Wars fan and costuming diva Sandy Bergeron, nicknamed Princess Sandy. The similarity of her surname to the name of the planet Onderon and the fact that her nickname fitted the government of that planet lead to the fanon character's royal origin. The variation on the first name is an homage to Sandy's Cinderella costume, which can be also recognized by the character's hair style depicted in Autopilot's where the FUN begins!.
