Star Wars Fanon

Call me a Traditionalist, if you like, but even with those new fancy "Blasters" we are receiving there are few things more satisfying, if you ask me, than the "Clack, Clack, Boom" of an old school shotgun! Those so-called "Jedi" had better be careful if they get too close to my shotgun!
—A soldier of the C. S. Army on his SGE-1

The SGE-1 Shotgun; SGE-1 standing for Shot Gun, Earth, 1st version (also known as the Zarkan Arms ZSG-931 Shotgun) was a model of combat Shotgun created by the Zarkan Arms company in 69 BBY to serve as an update to their previous model of shotgun, the ZSG-905, which had originally entered production in 95 BBY.

A pump-action shotgun with an 8 shell-capacity tube magazine, the SGE-1 was a new version of a very old type of weapon when entering production. Pump-action shotguns were centuries old by the time of the 1st Century BBY, yet continued to see service due to how rugged and reliable they were.

The Techno Union Earth Division and the Zarkan Arms company later developed the SGE-2 Shotgun, which was a more refined version of the SGE-1, the SGE-2 had a much smoother and rounded design than the angular SGE-1.

Typically reserved for Close-quarters combat, the Confederate States Army made use of the SGE-1 and their other combat shotguns in short-range combat, usually within buildings, and for blowing the hinges off doors in order to breach rooms and clear them out with a few shotgun blasts. These two objectives were what the slugthrower scatter guns excelled at.

Despite being mostly reserved for short-range combat the SGE-1 had a maximum effective range long enough to allow them to be able to function in medium range combat, though this was very rarely taken advantage of. C. S. Army doctrine stated that pellet dispersion made the shotguns' effectiveness unpredictable at medium ranges, thus more accurate weapons such as assault rifles, blasters, heavy blasters and machine guns were typically assigned to medium-range combat roles.

The C. S. Army also used shotguns in the "Jedi Killing" role. It was considered that due to the nature of pellet spread from a shotgun's blast it would be very hard, if not impossible, for a Jedi to successfully protect themselves at short range. It was believed that if a Shotgunner was able to avoid dying to a Jedi at close range then they had one of the best chances to take out the Jedi.
