The one thing that I have learned is that cheating hurts those whom have been cheated.
—Rosh Penin talking to fellow students at the Jedi Academy
Rosh Penin was a Human male Jedi Knight born on the planet Naboo in 9 BBY. Rosh spent most of his life on the planet Corellia, the Capital planet of the Corellian system. Rosh Penin was trained in the ways of the Force at the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV. Rosh’s career as a Jedi was not what his former master Kyle Katarn had foreseen. Rosh always wanted to have his way, even if it meant cheating, as seen when he set loose an ASP-19 battle droid on Jaden Korr. Rosh traveled on missions that were assigned to him by Luke Skywalker. However, while on a mission to Byss, Rosh was seduced to the dark side by Tavion Axmis and sent to the acidic planet Vjun to drain the dark force energy that resided there after the occupation of Darth Vader. After Rosh was defeated by his old friend Jaden, Tavion took her former apprentice Rosh and ordered her other apprentice Alora to take Rosh to the mountainous planet of Taspir III as a captive in order to seduce Jaden. When Rosh saw his old friend Jaden, Rosh started to convince Jaden that he was telling the truth. However, Rosh was unable to convince Jaden because of the anger that was clouding Jaden's mind. It was then that their master Kyle Katarn was able to convince Jaden that Rosh was telling the truth. Alora, looking with disgust, attacked Jaden, leaving Rosh minus a left arm. After Alora was slayed, Rosh was taken to the medical facility at the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. Immediately after Luke Skywalker had talked with Rosh, Jaden got permission from Luke Skywalker to train Rosh, not only through lightsaber training and retuning his Force Powers, but also through discipline. Rosh Penin’s training ended the year prior to the Yuuzhan Vong War. However, Rosh decided to fight along side his friend during the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. The only notable battle against the Yuuzhan Vong that Rosh fought in was the first battle of Coruscant. However, Rosh fought against the Yuuzhan Vong until the end of the war.
Rosh Penin later attended in Mara Jade Skywalker's funeral when he was later slayed by Darth Caedus in 40 ABY during Mara Jade Skywalker's funeral on Coruscant.
Biography[]
Rough road to Adulthood[]
Rosh's childhood was not clearly known, not even to the New Jedi Order. In 9 BBY, Rosh Penin was born on the planet of Naboo. Rosh grew up to be a person that was considered by people who knew him to be too self-centered. However, Rosh was able to fix this flaw in 14 ABY when Rosh was picked up by the shuttle that was bound for the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV. Rosh's problem was solved when he befriended fellow Jedi initiate Jaden Korr aboard a transport shuttle that was carrying not only Rosh and Jaden, but also other fellow Jedi initiates.
First Encounter with the Disciples of Ragnos[]
Broken friendship[]
Fourteen years after the battle of Yavin, Rosh and Jaden were sitting patiently, Rosh introduced himself to Jaden, and the two eventually developed a friendship. While heading to the Praxeum on Yavin 4, the shuttle was attacked by the Disciples of Ragnos, though the attack was merely a distraction so they could access Luke Skywalker's personal records. After recovering from the shuttle crash, Rosh and Jaden teamed up in order to reach the Massassi Temple. Jaden went on ahead after spotting stormtroopers patrolling the area of the Temple and quickly slayed them, including a Force-sensitive Sith cultist. Jaden was then knocked unconscious with the Scepter of Ragnos by Tavion Axmis. Rosh saw Jaden fall to the ground, and then he went for help and came back with Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn. They took Rosh and Jaden back to the Praxeum. After arriving, Rosh and Jaden were assigned to Kyle as his students. During a training exercise, Rosh set loose a lightsaber training droid on Jaden in order to slow him down so that he would be able to complete the course before Jaden. When Jaden reached the end of the course, Kyle chastised Rosh, saying the droid would have killed Korr had it been set to Luke's training regiment. Rosh apologized to Jaden, an apology which Jaden balked at, but accepted nevertheless.
Fall to the Dark Side[]

Rosh Penin as a Dark Jedi.
Rosh was often frustrated that Kyle was delaying his training, and as a result he became arrogant and impatient. Eventually, Rosh was given orders to investigate Byss, where he was later captured by the Disciples of Ragnos. At first, he was scared he would be slayed by the cult, but instead of slaying him, they took advantage of his fear to seduce him to the dark side. Rosh's naiveté attitude and crave for power made it easy for the Cult to turn him, and he became an apprentice to Tavion, leader of the Disciples of Ragnos. On the lava planet of Vjun, Rosh, Tavion, and the Kothos Twins led the cult into Bast Castle in order to drain the Force energies that were stored there. Kyle and Jaden arrived on Vjun, with the intent to stop the cultists, but were separated when Kyle landed unharmed after he had lost his footing but unable to catch up to Jaden. Jaden later located and confronted Rosh in Vader's throne room, where Rosh, with the aid of the Twins, attempted to slay Jaden. Rosh and Jaden were on par with each other until Jaden found a way to defeat his old friend and killed the Twins. He overpowered and disarmed Rosh just as Kyle arrived. Before they were able to capture Rosh, Tavion intervened. She stunned Kyle and Jaden with Force lightning, and afterward proclaimed that she had taken Rosh as her new apprentice. Tavion pulled Jaden's lightsaber from him with the Force, threw it at the ceiling and brought the weakened structure down on the Jedi with the Scepter of Ragnos. She then escaped with Rosh in her arm. Kyle used the Force to prevent the ceiling from crashing down on top of them while Jaden used his master's lightsaber to create a hole as a means for escape.
Redemption[]
Some time later, Rosh regretted what he had done and tried to turn from the dark side while on Taspir III with Alora, Tavion's other apprentice. He sent a distress signal to the Jedi Praxeum. Once Kyle and Jaden received the distress signal, they departed to Taspir III. Once there, Kyle decided that it was better for them to separate to make the search for Rosh quicker than originally planned. Jaden eventually located Rosh, who begged for forgiveness for attacking Jaden on Vjun. Jaden's anger at Rosh returned once again, and he came close to slaying his old friend. Kyle telepathically communicated with Jaden and pleaded with him to deactivate his lightsaber. Jaden released the stress that was burning in him, though Alora, who had been watching from a distance, attacked Jaden. During the battle, Alora managed to incapacitate Rosh by cutting off his left arm due to his disloyalty to the cult, after which Jaden struck her down. Kyle arrived soon after and brought Rosh back to a medical facility where he was given a prosthetic arm to replace the one that Alora severed on Taspir III.
Yuuzhan Vong War[]
Attack of the Peace Brigade[]
Rosh completed his training a year prior to the the Yuuzhan Vong War, a conflict said to be the most devastating in the New Republic's history. In 26 ABY, Jaden and Rosh were assigned to help defend the Jedi children as they were being evacuated off of Yavin IV. Jaden and Rosh ignited their lightsabers and helped fend off the Peace Brigade which was a force under the Yuuzhan Vong banner. As they saw that the Peace Brigade was overrunning the Jedi Praxeum, they were told by fellow Jedi, that they were escaping imminent doom and that there was no hope in defeating the Brigade's presence. Rosh and Jaden departed from Yavin IV and flew to Ossus where they met with Luke Skywalker. Skywalker briefed them on their new assignment; their assignment was to defend Coruscant at all costs.
Defending Coruscant[]
In 27 ABY, Rosh and Jaden arrived on Jaden's home planet Coruscant in order to prevent the Yuuzhan Vong from capturing and terraforming the city-planet. Despite their efforts, the Vong were able to do so. Rosh and his master, Jaden Korr, ignited their lightsabers and fought against groups of Yuuzhan Vong warriors. Rosh realized, as he fought with the warriors, that the staff that the warriors utilized could not be damaged by a single lightsaber blade. He decided to try to outmaneuver the warriors with the skills that Jaden had taught him. Hours passed, Rosh and Jaden, realizing that the planet was doomed, made their escape by utilizing Force Repulse and Force Speed in order to get to their personal transports and fly away from what could have been their death.
Two years later, Rosh and Jaden were part of the task force that reclaimed Coruscant from the Yuuzhan Vong.
Recapturing Coruscant[]
Two years after the first battle of Coruscant, Jaden and Rosh, along with their landing party, arrived at the gate of the Yuuzhan Vong Citadel. The citadel had the capability of returning to space if need arose. Once they stood in front of the gate, they were confronted by Slayers who then showed them into the Citadel, not knowing what the Slayers were actually used for. As the Slayers charged toward the landing party, the Jedi ignited their lightsabers and held their ground. Minutes later, Rosh saw his master being apprehended by a small group of Slayers, and he attempted to rescue Jaden, but found himself lying on his back. After Rosh was rescued by his master Jaden Korr, Rosh and his master continued to fight against the Yuuzhan Vong until the peace between the Yuuzhan Vong and the galaxy was announced.
Jedi Knight[]
The war with the Yuuzhan Vong was considered the most devastating war that the New Republic had seen and the casualties were high. It had cost a few of the Jedi the opportunity to protect the New Republic as Jedi Knights of the New Jedi Order. The friendship between Rosh and his friend, and master, Jaden held fast against the tides of the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. Rosh achieved the rank of Jedi Knight and he also received new Jedi attire.
Fate met at the hands of Darth Caedus[]
Eleven years after the war with the Yuuzhan Vong, as the funeral for Luke Skywalker's wife Mara Jade Skywalker proceeded, the funeral was interrupted as Darth Caedus, formally known as Jacen Solo, battled a small group of Jedi that included Kyle Katarn. Rosh rushed and helped fend Caedus off, but Caedus' blade met its mark. Rosh passed on into the Force in the arms of his friend and fellow Jedi Jaden Korr (Obi-Wan Kenobody).
Legacy[]
Rosh Penin passed on to the Netherworld of the Force in 40 ABY. Even though Rosh Penin had passed on into the Force, the story of his life was later written down by the Jedi historian of the New Jedi Order Tionne Solusar in order to be reflected upon by future generations of Jedi Knights.
Rosh left behind his lightsaber which was destroyed during the attack on the Jedi Academy on Ossus in 66 ABY.
Personality and traits[]
Rosh Penin was at first considered by his peers to be a person that had too much pride. However, years after his brief alliance with the Disciples of Ragnos and his rough road to redemption, Rosh was once again thought differently, in a positive way, by his peers.
Powers and abilities[]

Rosh Penin during the Disciples of Ragnos Crisis in 14 ABY
Throughout the years of training, Rosh was considered by his friends and his peers to be a moderate Force user. Under Jaden Korr's teaching, Rosh mastered most of his core Force abilities and some of the other Force powers that would be useful to him. He demonstrated a remarkable level of telekinesis when he used the Force to repel Yuuzhan Vong warriors during the first battle of Coruscant, and showed strong abilities in the areas of Force speed when he and Jaden ran to their personal transports. But perhaps the most incredible of Rosh's abilities was maturing into a wise Jedi after he learned his lesson in controlling his emotions. Throughout his lifetime, Rosh learned the Force powers that he knew; ranging from Force Protection, Force Healing, Mind trick, and Force Absorb to Force drain, Force Rage, Force choke, and Force lightning.
Rosh was moderately skilled with a lightsaber, echoing the medium, the fast and strong styles that his master Jaden Korr had learned at the start of his training.
Behind the scenes[]
In the game Star Wars Jedi Knight:Jedi Academy, Rosh Penin's voice is provided by Jason Marsden. Rosh starts out in the beginning of the game with a yellow-bladed training lightsaber. But later on in the game, Tavion seduces Rosh and gives him a red-bladed lightsaber. After the Disciples of Ragnos crisis, Rosh decided to stick with a yellow-bladed lightsaber because he had yet to show the confidence needed that both the New Jedi Order and Luke Skywalker were wanting.
