My standing motto: 'Just gotta keep on flying'.
—Ronen Draay[src]

Ronen Draay, often shortened as Rone, was a Human male spacer, entrepreneur, and self-styled "courier of goods" whom was the co-owner and served as captain of the modified freighter known as the Nomad, and its crew.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Originally from a "stagnant backwater" world, Ronen Draay was born to a woman and a father he never knew. His mother died providing a living for their family and he was then taken in by his uncle. Ronen resented his unfortunate circumstances and was eager to leave the planet. He eventually got his wish when he co-signed a purchased light freighter of Corellian engineering alongside his friend, Bernie Hoban with whom he shared ownership. He co-opted the title of Captain and hired Hoban as the pilot, and the first of his crew. Naming the vessel, the Nomad, an allusion to his drive to travel, he set forth as an opportunistic entrepreneur which led him to the employ of the smuggler Korrigan and his network.[1]

Smuggling career (252 ABY–)[]

In 252 ABY, while on a job for Korrigan, he visited Khoro, a world oppressed by Magistrate Thyr Matal and rescued the Twi'lek Pelina Cyr from slavery. She opted to stay aboard and became a member of his crew. Shortly after returning to the Gibli, Draay was dispatched to deliver a package of a spice variant to Yadav. Once funds were secured, he took the opportunity to also take on individuals seeking passage off-world, among them were the young Yadavi Sakina Khari, Zabrak Tey Surik and Rho Zuka, a mercenary.[1]

Uba sleemo! I do a job, I expect to get paid. Best you understand that.
—Ronen Draay, to Korrigan after a delivery[src]

A strong proponent of the life of a spacer, Ronen preferred living aboard starships over terrestrial living as his wanderlust and desire to leave his life on his homeworld left him perturbed to being stuck grounded with no means of escape. However, he did understand the value of being on solid ground occasionally, though mostly as a means to restock the Nomad's galley, recruit potential passengers for commercial transport, and safe harbor when necessary.[1]

Ronen fending off assailants with his double-barrel blaster

Able to wield a variety of blasters, he favored his modified Serrata Corporation AE-239, a double-barreled blaster carbine which he used effectively against pirates. He also tended to carry a knife in his boot..[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Ronen Draay is loosely based on a combination of Captain Malcolm Reynolds of the Serenity, Jayne Cobb and Derrial Book (Henry Evans) of Firefly series fame, as well as Spike Spiegel of Cowboy Bebop fame, respectively.
