The Right to Rule was an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer in service of the Imperial Navy, the Foronian Governance Navy and later the Imperial Remnant. For most of its service life the ship was under command of admiral Elgar Finn, but by 28 ABY, the ship had been transferred to Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, Finn taking charge of the Finest Strike instead.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Gilad Pellaeon commanded the Imperial Navy from this ship.
History[]
Early service[]
The Right to Rule entered service as early as 18 BBY under then captain Elgar Finn. The ship became his personal flagship and became the lead ship for the Right to Rule Fleet.
By 0 BBY, Elgar had been promoted to admiral and had put together a nifty fleet, comprising five more Star Destroyers, including the Eager Action.

The Right to Rule over Endor.
The Right to Rule was present for the battle of Endor, being fielded in the reserves. After learning of the Emperor's demise, Elgar and the Right to Rule briefly participated in Grand Admiral Osvald Teshik's stand-off, wiping out at least two Nebulon-Bs in the process, before finally retreating to Annaj.
Post–Endor[]
At Foron, the Right to Rule rendezvoused with the rest of the Right to Rule Fleet over Foron. There, admiral Finn established the Foronian Governance, a separate government to oversee Foron independently from the Empire.
The Foronian Governance Navy was also established, the backbone of which was the Right to Rule Fleet, and the Right to Rule as the navy's flagship.
The ship took part in the defence of Foron against the invading forces of Blitzer Harrsk, and once again participated in 12 ABY, joined by New Republic forces.
In 17 ABY, the New Republic led another offensive against Foron in response to the renewed Imperial campaign. While most of the Right to Rule Fleet and the Foronian Navy were destroyed, the Right to Rule ultimately survived the battle, immediately withdrawing to Imperial space.
The Right to Rule and the remainder of the fleet fled to Bastion, where the unit was immediately redeployed to Ord Terath, which was under siege by the New Republic Sixth Fleet, and Elgar's nemesis, Beya Ar'Lya.
When Elgar retired in 20 ABY, the ship was mothballed, but almost eight years later, the ship served as Gilad Pellaeon's flagship.
Under Pellaeon's command[]
Following the tactical withdrawal from Yaga Minor to the planet Borosk in 28 ABY, Grand Admiral Pellaeon—having left Chimaera in repair at Yaga Minor—employed Right to Rule as his flagship. The Star Destroyer would not only serve as the Fleet's flagship, but also as the flagship of Fleet Group Right to Rule, one of four temporary battlegroups created for the defense of the planet. During the battle that ensued, Right to Rule remained in the rear coordinating the movements of the other battlegroups, but would eventually be forced into the engagement when the starfleet withdrew below the minefield surrounding the planet. There it would remain to clean up the Yuuzhan Vong which had made it through the defenses. One day after the Battle of Borosk, Pellaeon held a meeting with the Moff Council, as well as numerous other high-ranking military officers, wherein he forced the Council to acquiescence to his intentions of allying with the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. Following this meeting, Right to Rule led the Starfleet's Coreward offensive against the Yuuzhan Vong.
Pursuing Yuuzhan Vong forces under B'shith Vorrik, Right to Rule led an Imperial contingent to the planet Generis, but arrived too late to save the planet's long-range communications center. Determined to destroy the force, Grand Admiral Pellaeon continued to the pursuit, which led them to the Yuuzhan Vong attack on the Esfandia Long-Range Communications Base on the planet Esfandia. Assisted by the Galactic Alliance frigate Pride of Selonia and the Millennium Falcon, as well as the Star Destroyer Relentless, Right to Rule acted as flagship in the battle that ensued, forcibly placing itself between the Yuuzhan Vong and the planet in order to deter any further orbital bombardment and give time for the Falcon to evacuate the communication station's personnel. With the timely arrival of a fleet from the Ryn Network, Right to Rule successfully led the forces at Esfandia to victory, utterly destroying the Yuuzhan Vong force, and killing Vorrik in the process.
Right to Rule was next confirmed to have engaged the enemy at the Defense of Mon Calamari, acting as flagship for the Imperial contingent of the massive fleet gathered for the planet's defense. The fleet, and by extension Right to Rule, operated subordinate to Admiral Traest Kre'fey in a support role for the Galactic Alliance's Second and Third Fleets. Right to Rule was subsequently assigned as the flagship of the coalition Fourth Fleet, carrying aboard it Vanguard Squadron and Twin Suns Squadron, as well as controlling Rogue and Wraith Squadrons. In the initial forays of the final battle, Right to Rule assisted the starfighter squadrons assigned her in escorting commando-laden troop transports through the dovin basal minefield surrounding Coruscant to descents planet-side. It would continue in the battle by leading the Fourth Fleet in engaging the Yuuzhan Vong home fleet protecting Coruscant and would end the war in that very place. Days after the official end of the war, Right to Rule was the place where Pellaeon returned Killik Twilight to Leia Organa Solo before returning to Imperial Space.
Admiral Elgar Finn, who had returned to Imperial service commanding the Sorannan-class Star Destroyer Finest Strike, briefly enjoyed the return of his previous flagship after the war, although he retired again shortly after, leaving the ship mothballed for over a decade.
Second Galactic Civil War[]
The Right to Rule had resumed service with the Imperial Navy under command of Elgar Finn's son, Jaro Finn by the time of the Second Galactic Civil War. The ship served as his flagship during Operation Wrath, but was badly damaged during the battle of Columus and was confined to Imperial space for the duration of the war.
Behind the scenes[]
In earlier drafts, the ship was christened the Road to Rule, after a feature of the game series Fable. In addition, upon renaming the ship, the writer was unaware of the Right to Rule. Instead of making it a separate ship, the writer lined up history and made it the same ship.
