Better a coward than a dead man.
—Rhen

Rhen was a male Pantoran smuggler who operated during the New Republic Era. Ostensibly a freelance freight-hauler pilot, Rhen flew contraband and cargo across the galaxy for clients that ranged from corporate entities such as Czerka Corporation to less reputable criminal organizations.

He was the owner and captain of the Saudade.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Rhen was born in 9 ABY on Pantora. Not much is known about his early life, but Rhen had already left Pantora behind by the time he was a teenager.

He worked for a time as a mate on a spice freighter.

Personality and traits[]

Honor among thieves? Heh... I don't think so.
—Rhen

Rhen was every bit the dashing rogue. He was a cool and collected sort, who carried himself with an unflappable calm and a trademark sly grin. He faced the galaxy with apathy and sarcasm; Rhen's laid-back attitude was that of a man who breezed through life without a care in the galaxy.

Rhen was quite suave and made good use of his silver tongue. He was at home in a crowd, adept at schmoozing or using flattery and charm in conversation. Rhen's sense of humor was witty and sarcastic but his sarcasm had a tendency to be particularly sharp and often got him into trouble.

Beneath the debonair and gentlemanly facade, Rhen was a cynic to the bone. He believed that everyone was motivated purely by self-interest and scoffed at notions such as honor, which he considered to be "mere platitudes." As a result, Rhen was suspicious of others and expected the worst. A consummate scoundrel, Rhen was very wily and cunning, and had a very lax sense of morality; he had no compunctions about lying, cheating, or backstabbing. He was motivated by pure hard currency and keeping himself alive. To Rhen, it was better to be a coward than a dead man: a coward at least gets to live another day.

Inside, Rhen was a remarkably guarded person, which contrasted sharply with the carefree and sociable persona he presented. He possessed tight control over his emotions, almost effortlessly masking how he truly felt, and prevented his emotions from controlling him even in the heat of the moment. He had a form of attachment disorder, in which he drifted from relationship to relationship without truly getting close to others. As a result, while he had many associates and contacts, he had few individuals that would qualify as friends.

In spite of his flaws and devil-may-care attitude, Rhen wasn't entirely without a semblance of honor. He refused to kill unless absolutely necessary, preferring to outwit or deceive to escape. Despite connections to the galactic underworld, Rhen despised slavers and refused to deal in slavery.

A man of many vices, Rhen smoked, drank and gambled. He also had a cool, open attitude towards sex.

Physical description[]

Rhen was a tall, bone thin Pantoran man with dusky blue skin. He had a lean and wiry physique. His snow-white hair was worn styled into a short coif and his eyes were amber in color. Although he had no affiliation or loyalty to any particular family, Rhen had simple white tattoos on his face.

Abilities and skills[]

I've killed people before, either for money or because I had to. Killed enough of 'em to know that I don't like it.
—Rhen

Despite a preference for keeping his hands clean, Rhen was a crack shot and a capable gunslinger.

Rhen's native language was Basic, but he was also fluent in Huttese, Jawa Trade Talk, and the trade languages Meese Caulf and Sy Bisti. He could understand Shyriiwook and Jawaese, as well as a few phrases and words of Mando'a.

Rhen was a skilled card shark, particularly when it came to bluffing.

The true measure of Rhen's skills lay in criminal activities. He was an excellent pickpocket and sneak, and was similarly very adept at lock picking. A natural liar and bluffer, Rhen was able to charm and deceive others. He often used amusing acts of legerdemain to conceal his illegal actions.

Equipment[]

Rhen's weapon of choice was a DE-10 blaster pistol, which was kept in a quick-draw holster. The blaster was highly customized, with a hair trigger, an engraving of a woman on the barrel and a mother-of-pearl plated handle.

Rhen's usual attire consisted of comfortable and light garments, which included a trademark leather jacket and boots.
