Revan, born Naak Qel-Droma, was a Jedi Knight who led a faction of Jedi Crusaders during the Mandalorian Wars. After falling to the dark side, he took on the name Darth Revan and waged war against the Galactic Republic.

When his apprentice betrayed him, Revan lost his memory and was "reprogrammed" by the Jedi to help them find the maps to the Sith Empire's Star Forge. Under the name Aron Jarsan, he was stationed aboard the Endar Spire as a Republic soldier under the command of Jedi Knight Bastila Shan. Upon regaining his memories, the redeemed Revan succeeded in bringing down Darth Malak and the empire he himself had built.

Biography[]

Early life[]

The boy known as Naak was born before 3986 BBY to former Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma and the Mandalorian Shield Maiden Valdhani. Recognizing the boy's strength in the Force, Ulic sought out his former friend and lover Nomi Sunrider and entrusted his son with her. Sunrider than gave Naak to Arren Kae to be trained in the ways of the Force.[5]

Growing up, Naak was left unaware of the legacy behind his bloodline. It was not until he had become a Jedi Knight that Kae revealed to him his lineage.[5] During his training, he also received tutelage from other teachers such as Zhar Lestin and Dorak.[7] While studying under Master Lestin, Naak became good friends with Lestin's other student Alek.[8]

The Revanchist[]

When the Mandalorian Wars broke out in full in 3964 BBY, Naak advocated that the Jedi aid the Galactic Republic in combating the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders. When the Jedi High Council refused to heed his advice, Naak sought out his first teacher Master Kae, knowing full well that his future actions could potentially lead to his expulsion from the Jedi Order. On the advice of Kae, Naak rallied like-minded Jedi to his cause and led them to war against the Mandalorians.[7][9]

During the early day of his crusade, Naak visited Taris in the hope of recruiting more Jedi to his cause but was turned away by Master Lucien Draay. He later encountered Draay again after reporting the disappearance of Alek and other Jedi on Suurja to the Jedi Council, failing once more to sway the Council to his cause. Eventually, Alek and the others were rescued from Flashpoint by Zayne Carrick and reunited with Naak. By this point, Naak and his followers had become known as the Revanchists[10] or the Jedi Crusaders,[11] with Naak himself becoming known as "the Revanchist."[10]

While investigating the disappearance of the Cathar, Naak and the other Revanchists felt a disturbance in the Force when the Mandalorians bombed the planet of Serroco.[10]

After approving a motion from Master Draay to recall the Revanchists, the Jedi Council traveled to Cathar to confront Naak and his followers, demanding that they disband. During the altercation, all Jedi present experienced a vision that revealed to them the massacre of the Cathar people at the hands of the Mandalorians ten years prior. Witnessing the defiance of a Mandalorian who opposed the massacre—in truth his mother Valdhani[5]—Naak recovered the mask of the Mandalorian and donned it himself, declaring himself to be "Revan."[10] The Council begrudgingly sanctioned Revan and his followers participation in the Mandalorian Wars but continued to officially denounce the movement.[3]

In 3962 BBY, Supreme Chancellor Tol Cressa named Revan Supreme Commander of the Republic Military.[12]

During the later years of the Mandalorian Wars, Revan and Malak discovered a Star Map among Rakatan ruins on Dantooine, which contained partial directions to the long-lost Star Forge. The two Jedi went on to discover the remaining four Star Maps on Tatooine, Kashyyyk, Manaan, and Korriban.[3] It was not long after discovering the Star Maps that they visited the Sith world of Malachor V, where they discovered the Trayus Academy and became seduced by the dark side teachings of the Sith.[6]

In 3960 BBY, Revan brought an end to the war by slaying Mandalore the Ultimate and ordering the activation of the Mass Shadow Generator, which eliminated all combatants on the planet of Malachor V.[7][4]

After learning from Mandalore that the Mandalorians had been influenced by the Sith, Revan and Malak set out for the Unknown Regions to investigate these claims. Their travels eventually led them to the resurgent Sith Empire of Lord Vitiate, who proceeded to warp the two Jedi's minds and name them Lords of the Sith. Although the newly anointed Darth Revan broke free from the Sith Emperor's control, he nonetheless set out to find the Star Forge of the Infinite Empire and use it to build a Sith Empire of his own. It became Revan's prerogative to use his empire to unify the galaxy and defend it from the threat of the True Sith Empire. The other Revanchists, as well as the Republic forces that had served under Revan during the Mandalorian Wars, would go on to join Revan's Empire as he and Malak reclaimed Korriban to construct an academy for new Sith to be trained.[3][7][4]

Dark Lord of the Sith[]

After locating the Star Forge and using it to construct a fleet of Sith ships, Darth Revan launched an attack on the Republic, starting what would become known as the Second Sith War—alternatively the "Jedi Civil War" to those who did not recognize Revan and Malak as true Sith. His knowledge of the Republic Army's inner workings gave Revan the advantage he needed as his forces struck worlds vital to the Republic, such as Foerost and Roche. Having stayed out of the Mandalorian Wars, the Jedi Council were called to action and many Masters and Knights led Republic forces in the defense against the Sith Empire. At some point, suspecting his apprentice Darth Malak of betrayal, Revan took on his former fellow Revanchist Voren Renstaal as a secret apprentice with the plan of replacing Malak should the need arise.

In 3957 BBY, two years into the war, a Republic force engaged Darth Revan's fleet in the Outer Rim Territories. With the Sith ships preoccupied, a Jedi strike team led by Bastila Shan stormed Revan's flagship and confronted the Dark Lord himself on the bridge. As Revan prepared to face the Jedi, Darth Malak—seeing an opportunity to seize control of the Empire—ordered his ships to fire upon Revan's. The resulting blast killed many of the Jedi and critically injured Revan. Rather than leave him for dead, Bastila decided to save the Sith Lord's life with the Force and escaped with him in tow before his ship was destroyed. Bastila brought the injured Revan before the Jedi Council, who decided to reprogram his mind and give him a new identity as a Republic soldier named "Aron Jarsan," hoping to eventually unearth his memories and use them to locate and destroy the Star Forge.[3]

Revan Reborn[]

Because of the Force bond that had been inexplicably created between them, Bastila made sure to keep the amnesiac Revan close by to keep him out of harm's away and so she could use their connection to uncover the location of the Star Maps. A year after being reprogrammed, Revan was stationed on the Endar Spire under Bastila Shan's command when it was attacked by Sith forces over the planet Taris. While Revan was able to escape the ship before its destruction along with Captain Carth Onasi, they were separated from Bastila's escape pod and the Jedi woman was later captured by the Black Vulkar swoop gang. After rescuing Bastila and acquiring a freighter (as well as a few new companions), Revan was taken to Dantooine where he received Jedi training once more and given the task of locating the Star Maps.[3]

It would not be until a confrontation with Darth Malak aboard the Leviathan that Revan discovered his true identity just before Bastila was captured by the Dark Lord. Despite this revelation, Revan resolved to undo the Sith Empire he had built and, after finding the last Star Map, led the Republic in an attack on the Star Forge. In the ensuing battle, Revan brought Bastila back to the light after she had been brainwashed by Malak before striking down his former apprentice in a final duel. Not long after escaping the Star Forge, the space station was destroyed by the Republic.[3]

Not long after being hailed as a hero of the Republic, Revan returned to Korriban and led an attack on the Sith warlords that had arisen in the wake of Darth Malak's death. Among these warlords were former Revanchists Kalon Soral and his lover Nova Larisa. When Revan offered the couple a chance to surrender, the two warlords refused and Revan was forced to strike down Nova when she attacked him. After defeating Soral, Revan once again offered him a chance at redemption only to be spitefully shot down. The former Dark Lord then left his once-underling behind in the tombs of Korriban while the rest of Soral's army was taken care of. Forced to go into exile, Soral swore revenge on Revan and would harbor a grudge for the remainder of his life.

Two years since regaining his memories, Revan was plagued with nightmares of a dark presence out in the Outer Rim. Unable to ignore it any longer and fearing for the safety of those he cared about, Revan left Bastila and their newborn son Vaner to investigate the threat of the True Sith. After helping Canderous Ordo reclaim Mandalore's mask on Rekkiad, Revan ventured to Nathema where he was captured by the Sith Empire and held prisoner on Dromund Kaas. Four years later, after having defeated the Sith Triumvirate and reestablished the Jedi Order with the help of Bastila, the Jedi Exile Meetra Surik set out in search of Revan. With the help of the Sith Lord Scourge, Meetra rescued Revan before accompanying him to confront the Sith Emperor. However, Scourge turned against them and killed the Exile while Revan was taken captive by the Sith Emperor. Imprisoned on a station within the Maelstrom Nebula, Revan was kept alive through Sith alchemy for the next three hundred years while the Emperor fed off his energies to sustain himself.[4]

Freedom[]

In 3681 BBY, the Sith Emperor proceeded with his plans to attack the Republic, despite Revan's efforts to stop him. After nearly thirty years of conflict however, Revan's influence caused the Sith Emperor to seek a treaty with the Republic, bringing an end to the Great Galactic War.[13] Following the treaty's collapse, the Sith Emperor began making preparations for a ritual that would eradicate all life in the galaxy. As such, the spirit of the Jedi exile Meetra Surik reached out to Jedi Master Oteg and had him send a team to find and free Revan from his prison in the Maelstrom. After meeting briefly with the Jedi Council on Tython, Revan set out to find a way that would bring an end to the Sith Emperor and his schemes.[14]

Legacy[]

Long after Revan's final death, the Order of Revan continued to exist in some form or another for the next three thousand years. By 13 BBY, the Revanite Naya Sendor met and married the scientist Aron Jarsan, whom she believed had a connection to Revan of some kind due to him having the same name as the false identity Revan went by during the search for the Star Forge.
