This planet is damned!
—Retsinis VIII bartender

Retsinis VIII was the eighth planet of Retsinis in the Retsinis system which was located in the Sith Space sector of the Outer Rim.

The world was a gloomy and depressing place with all life destroyed on it by a cataclysmic natural disaster. The sky was scorched after the debris continuously swirling in the planets jet stream blocked out the sunlight for a long period of time before clearing and revealing a scarred red sky. Some time afterward, settlers arrived and the planet became little more than a barren and lifeless stop-off point for those traveling to the Horuset system.

Its primary exports were rare Retsinis gems and the even rarer Retsinis Nitrous.

The Jedi-turned-Dark Jedi Kryzon Vellox hailed from Retsinis VIII.

History[]

Early history[]

Before the year 25,000 BBY Retsinis VIII was a lush planet of grassy plains, forests, lakes and rolling hills. There was no intelligent life or civilizations on the planet so little was damaged by construction or expansion.

But when a comet crashed into the planet around the year 25,000 BBY all life was wiped out. The impact created a gigantic seismic wave which ripped up the planet in a matter of hours, killing all in its path. The force of the collision pushed up all the magma from beneath the planets crust up through the ground making huge earthquakes and forcing molten rock up out of volcanoes.

The planets surface was obliterated and all the debris was thrown into the jet stream and all light from the systems star Retsinis was blocked out for 4000 years.

Sith arrival[]

One and a half thousand years after the debris cleared, the planet had calmed somewhat; the earthquakes had seized, the volcanoes no longer erupted so violently and the lava had cooled and solidified to make a walkable terrain. The First Great Schism had engaged the Legions of Lettow and the Jedi Order in an all out war.

A small group of Dark Jedi that were part of the Legions of Lettow hid some of their Dark Side Artifacts from the Jedi on Retsinis VIII, however, after the Legions of Lettow were destroyed by the Jedi all information on the whereabouts or even the existence of the artifacts were lost.

The colonization of Retsinis VIII[]

In the year 21,000 BBY the sky cleared to some extent but the devastated planet now had a red sky, a constant sign of how much damage had been done. The now famed space exploring corporation The White Federation stumbled across Retsinis VIII when exploring Sith Space and reported its position to the Galactic Republic on Coruscant.

Eventually settlers heard of the discovery and made their way there and set up a camp large enough to hold a few hundred people. These settlers started exploring the world and excavating the terrain.

100 years later and a cave was discovered containing a few black crystals that seemed to absorb light. After the light absorbing crystals (dubbed Retsinis Gems) came to the galaxy-wide market they became highly sought after items and small mining operations began to start an economy on Retsinis VIII were the gems were the only export. Thanks to the new export of Retsinis VIII the settlements could now import the food and drink needed on the planet that couldn't be produced on the barren world.

Although Retsinis Gems were hard to find an even rarer substance existed on Retsinis VIII which was discovered by accident. Retsinis Nitrous, as it would later be known as, was a chemical which acted in the same way as fuel but was much more explosive. It was used primarily by those who owned land vehicles and became a powerful secret weapon in racing. But because Retsinis Nitrous was so rare very little was mined and was more stumbled upon, collected and then sold.

Eventually a sufficient docking station and an adjunct city, which later became the capital, was built to handle the freighters transporting the gems and Nitrous and the transports going to the Horuset system. Debrutsid became the capital of Retsinis VIII after the income from docking station lured others to live and work there. It grew to be the largest city on all Retsinis VIII.

Culture[]

Living in relative isolation and on a planet that was very undesirable eventually made the people of Retsinis VIII as miserable as the world they lived on. With all food and liquids being rationed because they had to import it, left the population hungry and thirsty most of the time. Mining the gems or nitrous being the primary employment placements also left the people with a chip on their shoulders. Offworlders were looked upon with disgust and shunned away from the settlements.

The only cultural thing there was on Retsinis VIII was the drinking of alcohol in the numerous bars and cantinas. However, there was always a shortage of drinks as the shipments of food and drink was delivered only once a month, so even having the odd drink was a rare thing to be done. For all these reasons then, most stayed away from the planet and let the population carry on their days in bitterness.

Kryzon Vellox[]

Kryzon Vellox was born on Retsinis VIII in 54 BBY with the gift of force skills. After an accident involving some heavy mining machinery and a young Kryzon, the Jedi to be lost his left eye. For reasons that are still unknown the surgeon on Retsinis VIII replaced his eye with a blood red crystal.

Kryzon was taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when his Force ability was felt by a Jedi who had landed on the planet.

Galactic conflicts[]

Retsinis VIII managed to escape any entanglements during any of the wars that took place in the galaxy, most probably because their was nothing really there. Retsinis VIII continued to export Retsinis Gems and Nitrous to any who bought it until the resources eventually ran out.

Behind the scenes[]

Retsinis VIII was created by Kidd Arda as a place for his menacing Jedi character Kryzon Vellox to come from. It was to resemble Kryzon somewhat so that it would justify his temperament, to a degree, of a dark and impatient man with a sadistic sense of humor.

"Retsinis" is "sinister" spelled backwards.
