During the Cold War, an outpost of the Galactic Republic was located on the ice planet of Akuria II, in the Outer Rim Territories. It was a research facility where an experimental cloaking device was being worked on. In 3,650 BBY, an agent of the Sith Empire successfully infiltrated the facility and stole the device, destroying the base and killing much of the guards in the process.
