The Republic Military was the military branch of the Republic of Systems. It consisted of the Republic Army and the Republic Navy. It was founded in 7658 BBY, and was formed from the planetary defense forces of the Core founders. The Republic Military notably fought the Sith-Imperial Military of the Sith Empire in numerous conflicts, from the Great Sith War in 5117 BBY to the New Sith War in 1034 BBY. The military often fought side-by-side with members of the Jedi Order during their conflicts with the Sith, and on many occasions, Jedi Knights and Masters served as Generals and commanded Republic forces.
The Republic Military would meet its end along with the Republic itself as a result of the Mandalorian Crusade and the New Sith War. Both conflicts severely weakened the military, leading to the fall of the Core and the collapse of the Republic. However, the surviving members of the military would go on to form the Army of Light and ultimately topple the Sith Empire. After the war, the Galactic Republic was founded and its armed forces disbanded shortly thereafter. The Republic would not have an official military again until 22 BBY at the start of the Clone Wars.
