Rebel Group MT50, sometimes called Mothma's Thorn for their blatant disregard for Alliance policy, was a military unit in the Rebel Alliance that played by their own rules. It was started by the pirate turned Rebel, Soflas Pulviir as a unit that could strike at the Galactic Empire quickly and then retreat, leading Imperials on a wild chase away from the main Rebel forces. It was well known for its courage, and its high casualty rate, often volunteering for the most dangerous assignments. But it had a darker side, one that it carefully hid from Alliance High Command. Pulviir carefully selected his soldiers from among the most villainous members of the Alliance— bounty hunters, criminals and Imperial defectors who had refrained from telling everything they did before joining the Rebellion, mercenaries, pirates, Seperatists, and smugglers. Then he made them loyal to Rebel Group MT50 first and the Alliance second. As a result he was able to order his men to commit acts during missions that were contrary to the ethics of the Alliance and make sure the reports they filed after each mission altered or left out incriminating details. Eventually, in the days of the New Republic, the atrocities committed by Group MT50 came to light and the unit was disbanded and its officers court-martialed and imprisoned.
