RC-2799 was the leader of the Galactic Republic`s special operations unit after the death of RC-7289. Nicknamed Ben, he was a skilled clone trooper who was very good at stealthily approaching things and came from a batch of clones that included the greatest, such as Blastmaster.
Biography[]
Endor[]
Ben began his training on Endor. He originally was going to try out for the 501st Legion with Blastmaster, but he was singled out by RC-7289 when he aced the tryouts for the 501st. He was invited into the special operations unit by RC-7289 (Reynolds). He accepted while his batcher became a member of the 501st. After completing his top secret training,(even Blastmaster didn't know where he`d gone) he resumed his regular life, and was accepted into the 501st (it was necessary for him to be in a regular unit, because no one could know of the existence of the special OPS unit, and the special operations clones stayed as regular clones until they were needed in special operations).
The Battle of Kamino[]
Officially, the Galactic Republic never had to deal with the renegade members of Platinum Squad. Unofficially, the Galactic Republic Special Operations unit was sent to destroy Platinum Squad one month after the creation of both units. We had them out manned, out gunned, and out maneuvered by a ten to one margin. But they were still the toughest opponents we'd ever faced. I don't remember much. Seeing as I'm still here, I guess we won.
—Ben explaining the battle of Kamino to Luke Skywalker shortly before Ben's death
One month after the beginning of the Clone Wars, Ben was sent to lead a Company of Special Ops troops to eliminate Platinum squad, another elite unit of clones who had shown a little too much independence on their first mission. After arriving on Kamino the company ambushed Platinum Squad. The battle lasted around forty minutes. Many Special OPS troops were killed by members of Platinum squad who were sniping. However, the Special OPS unit killed most of Platinum Squad and Ben tracked down the leader. After the leader and Ben battled for twenty minutes, Ben finally shot him in the back, killing him.
Station 23-452[]
Almost a month after being accepted into the special ops unit, Ben was called away from his duties in the 501st Legion and to his regular duties as a special ops clone. He told Blastmaster he was going with Torrent company (Blastmaster hadn't been accepted into Torrent company) to rid Naboo of an infestation of droids. He was really going to take over a droid space station, called Station 23-452, this station was causing them a lot of trouble, as it was stationed over the key world of Naboo. Ben and his company took a shuttle equipped with a cloaking device on to the station. Once they were on board, they were assaulted by a full battalion of droids. In the confusion, Reynolds left a Major in charge and went with Ben to take over the bridge. As almost all the droids on board were attacking the shuttle, their path was almost clear, and they only had to battle the bridge guards. Once on the bridge, they killed the living commander of the station and destroyed the droid controllers. They then assumed command of the station, as the rest of their Company had made quick work of the droids attacking them. After the mission, Ben was promoted to Sergent.
Battle of Hoth[]
We were pretty surprised, we'd thought the Seps would never find our base on Hoth.... but they did.
—RC-2799 to Luke Skywalker
In 20 BBY, a full battalion of BX-series commando droids was sent to Hoth after the Separatists intercepted a transmission from Reynolds to Chancellor Palpatine stating that the mission on Station 23-452 was a success. When Reynolds heard that the transmission had been intercepted he knew the Separatists would be able to trace it back to Hoth, and ordered a guard day and night to keep watch. The guard on duty when the droids came however, was killed by the droids. The droids gained entrance to the facility, and a battle followed. The clones were eventually able to release the emergency EMP bomb the facility contained, which stopped the droids. Reynolds was severely injured and barely pulled through however. After recovering, Reynolds promoted Ben to lieutenant, as it had been Ben who had the idea of setting off the bomb, and had set it off.
Battle of Mustafar[]
In 19 BBY, Ben who was now a Captain, led a company of Special OPS troopers to Mustafar in order to wipe out a unit of droids who had been sighted there. The company of course, did not know of the existence of the droid factory they were guarding. When they got there they made short work of the droids. It would be their last mission under the flag of the Republic.
Serving the Empire[]
Order 66[]
Ben executed Order 66 under the command of Reynolds. Their unit had been stationed on Kamino, where they were to defend the cloning facilities against a rumored CIS attack, however, they ended up having to carry out Order 66. The whole CIS attack was an invention of Grievous who had been told to plant the idea by Cos Palpatine. The unit killed Jedi General Shaak Ti in accordance with Order 66. Ti did however, manage to kill Reynolds. Ben was able to kill Ti and then the Kaminoan witnesses. Ben then assumed control of the Special Ops unit and disposed of Ti and the Kaminoans' bodies. Ben's work wasn't over yet though, he had to lead a squad to kill several rogue Special OPS troopers, until he was finally told by Palpatine that his work was done.
Battle of Couruscant (Imperial Era)[]
In 17 BBY, Ben led the Special Ops Unit (he was now a commander) in the Imperial Era's Battle of Couruscant. The battle begun when several platoons of Rebel forces attempted to kill Cos Palpatine, (who was now galactic Emperor) and failed. Ben was forced to order the killing of several Couruscant security force members in order to maintain secrecy. He then led the Special Ops Unit to destroy the members of the Rebel strike force, which they did easily--sniping the enemy forces who were engaged in battle with Palpatine's royal guard from atop the buildings of Imperial City. After twenty minutes, all enemy forces were dead.
