R5-X9 was an R5-series astromech droid whose career spanned decades. While he originally worked for the Galactic Republic, he was eventually put to work for the Rebel Alliance. He had the body of an R2 unit and turquoise trimming. After his head was damaged it was replaced with one that had custom painting.

Early life[]
During the Clone Wars, the droid was purchased along with millions of others in order to serve the Grand Galactic Army. He was assigned a position in General Rahm Kota's militia, acting as the astromech droid for a BTL-B Y-wing. During an attack on a Separatist fleet, R5's head was struck by a stray blaster bolt. He survived, but his head was irreparably damaged. His old dome was replaced with one that had a custom paint job, giving him an alien appearance. When Order 66 was initiated and the Clones turned on the Jedi, Kota's militia remained loyal to their general and went into hiding with him, taking with them all of their supplies, R5 included.
