I do expect some of this equipment back in pristine order.
—Q'u addressing the MI5 agents
The Human male known only as Q'u (or simply just the letter Q) was the gadget-master employed by MI5 and headed Q'u Branch. He had many workshops throughout the galaxy to aid the agents while they were in the field. But his main workshop was at MI5 Headquarters on Coruscant. He served as the organization's "gadget master" for many decades.
Biography[]
Q'u had worked for MI5 all his life. He loved technology and science.
In the decades before and during the Clone Wars, he invented the gadgets, weapons and custom vessels for the agents to use out in the field.
In 42 BBY, Q'u created Stuart to help him around the department. Stuart was cloned from MI5 agent Markus Carfax' genetic material.
The following year, Q'u was granted permission to reprogram the SMERSH replica droid Digika. A test-run after the first memory wipe proved to be a failure. A fail-safe mechanism built into the droid activated, sending Digika on a rampage through Q'u Branch. Seeing the devastation afterward, M put an immediate stop to the reprogramming project.
In 37 BBY, Q'u completed work on Q'u Branch's Ultra Agent Droid, or "QUAD" for short, to act as a droid MI5 agent. It was programmed with all of MI5's combat and weapons training, and it's memory contained all MI5 databank files. Three years later, QUAD was upgraded with the Space-Time Displacer which granted the droid the ability to travel through space and time.
When SMERSH infiltrated and took over MI5 Headquarters in 32 BBY, Q'u was among those rounded up and held hostage by Jasper Fondorball. After what seemed like an eternity, a handful of MI5 agents finally rescued them.
In 27 BBY, the new M gave Q'u clearance to attempt another reprogramming of Digika, which turned out to be a success. That same year, Q'u also designed the MNE-PNE replica droid.
Soon after the Clone Wars began, Q'u was in his 90's and felt it was finally time to retire. So while the MI5 agents set out on their mission to Nadiem, he introduced the man he was prepping to take his place: R (the operative formerly known as Markus Carfax).
Special creations[]
Stuart[]
Q'u was also the creator of his underling Stuart. Using Markus Carfax' DNA, Q'u genetically altered it to grow a clone of the agent. He altered the DNA to make Stuart the "anti-Carfax", and give him some help around the department.
Digika 2.0[]

Q'u using the Invisi-Belt during the reprogramming of Digika
After the capture of Urma Boont and her replica droid Digika, Q'u was granted permission to reprogram Digika to give him some help around the department. A test-run after the first memory wipe proved to be a failure. A fail-safe mechanism built into the droid activated, sending Digika on a rampage through Q'u Branch. Seeing the devastation afterward, M put an immediate stop to the reprogramming project. Q'u was unable to continue work on Digika until the new M took over nearly 15 years later.
QUAD[]
The droid deemed "Q'u Branch's Ultra Agent Droid" (QUAD) was created specifically to be a droid MI5 operative. It was programmed with all of MI5's combat and weapons training, and it's memory contained all MI5 databank files. QUAD was later upgraded with the Space-Time Displacer, allowing him to travel through space and time.
Moneypenny[]
Q'u also designed and created MNE-PNE, a Human replica droid, nicknamed "Moneypenny", designed to assist M with secretarial duties during the Clone Wars.
Behind the Scenes[]
Q'u is based on the James Bond character Q, short for Quartermaster, portrayed by Desmond Llewelyn.
