Pulse lasers were laser cannon variants designed by outlaw mechanic Syd N'aanzi for the ships and vehicles used by the mercenary groups Wayland's Wilders and Wayland's Warhammer. They had shorter ranges than standard laser cannons, but made up for this deficiency with their high rates of fire, fully three times that of an average laser cannon of the same type. Wayland's capital ships normally mounted four of the cannons at a time in turrets designed to defend the ships against starfighters, as well as slaving lighter turret-mounted pulse lasers to advanced fire-control computers to provide a point-defense screen against warhead attacks.
