Rise of the Empire era

Teleporter, I would like to go to another world...far beyond my knowledge."
"Approved. Designation: Earth.

Count Dooku and the teleporter

Project G.A.L.A.X.Y. was a transport device, originally created in the second year of the Clone Wars by the Techno Union, and secretly funded by Count Dooku, leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The project aimed to construct a teleportation device that could move someone anywhere in the universe. Ten transporters were ultimately manufactured at an enormous financial cost to the Separatists.

Although Count Dooku foresaw a number of uses in the creation of the device, the intended military goal was the ability to create bases in secret locations unknown to the Republic, where the fleet could recuperate under threat and build new factories without having to fear interference from the Republic's armies. The project instead, however, briefly drew the Clone Wars away from the main galaxy to these distant battlefields until the intervention of Darth Sidious himself.

Technology[]

It will be a great asset.
—General Grievous, learning of the plans to build the project

The device was a large room that a user can step in for transport, resembling something of a large elevator. It was voice-activated, and could respond to specific locations (Alderaan, Death Star, Tatooine, etc.) as well as non-specific locations (Farthest place in the universe, A planet of peace, etc.). Starships could be built around it to take advantage of its abilities, though it consumed significant resources. While the device's main design was easily replicated, its powerful central computers required rare, large kyber crystals to be powered effectively, with the crystals' connection to the Force augmenting the devices' existing transport ability, and they would have eventually needed to be refreshed after several years of continuous usage.

This technology was invented by several Techno Union scientists who had studied the Galaxy very closely, at Dooku's behest, and was sold to the Confederacy of Independent Systems for over one million credits upon completion.

History[]

The Techno Union has finished the project you requested, Count. We cannot insure your safety onboa—"
"I am not worried about my safety, Tambor.

—Wat Tambor and Dooku

In the second year of the Clone Wars, Separatist leader Count Dooku funded Project G.A.L.A.X.Y. without informing his master, Darth Sidious. The project aimed to construct a teleportation device that could move someone anywhere in the universe. The project was successful, if expensive, and ten transporters were built.

The first mission was to go to the farthest point in the universe from the galaxy. The Separatist droid exploratio unit found themselves on a large, gaseous, jungle-like planet known as Napo-Wan. The planet was only for the experiment and quickly abandoned, useless for a long-term base due to its atmosphere. Dooku found a particularly interesting area of the universe, a system in the Milky Way Galaxy, and sent the CIS there to build fortresses and factories.

After Dooku accepted the machine into the Confederacy's military hands, Grievous, Dooku, San Hill, Wat Tambor, and other distinguished members of the Separatist Council tried to take advantage of the machines and its abilities. Nine of the machines were put on important Separatist worlds and ships. These included Geonosis, Hypori, the Invisible Hand, and other ships. None of the machines were discovered by Republic spies, with each guarded by several MagnaGuards and Droidekas, programmed with no knowledge of what they were assigned to protect.

Missions[]

Droid ships quickly found themselves in orbit around a mysterious dwarf planet called Eris. They quickly began exploring the nearby system, before Dooku and Grievous arrived for inspection as well. They quickly began colonizing the many planets in the system, many of which were host to major battles - Venus, Earth, Mars. Earth's Moon, Ceres and Pluto were also a part of the conflict. However, the Republic followed the exhaust lead out by the Invisible Hand and other ships but were not able to follow them to the mysterious system.

Discovery[]

This technology is impossible!
—A clone trooper, upon discovering the teleporter at Rhen Var

After a few months, construction of droid factories was imminent, in hopes of a safe location to replenish Separatist bases without interference or threat of attack from the Republic. Unfortunately, due to most of the Separatist forces being moved to these colonies, the Republic was able to raid the Separatist base in the main galaxy on Rhen Var, leading to the discovery of one of the teleporters, and eventually the transfer of a few Republic cruisers there. The result was a sub-war raging in the small and relatively uninhabited system.

Though Darth Sidious had, in fact, become aware of the project much earlier, he took the Rhen Var discovery as an opportunity to confront Dooku, threatening his life and title if he tried to withhold such information from him again.

After the end of the sub-war had concluded, the Separatists abandoned or destroyed their bases and returned to the main galaxy, focusing instead on attacking vital Republic resources while they were still withdrawing from the solar system. The Republic captured most of the devices and placed them into storage pending their destruction, although rumor had it one of the devices had been left behind. The solar system was abandoned.

Reactivation[]

This device is incredible, my Master. We must keep the Rebels from discovering it, so we may expand our Empire.
—Darth Vader

Fifteen years after the project was ended, the Emperor and Darth Vader proposed to reactive it around 0 BBY, after the fall of the Death Star. Dispatching a legion of troops and scientists back to the Solar system on Mars in anticipation of a future colony or settlement. Rebel spies later reported of the device's existence and a small team was able to steal one from Imperial storage for the cause, allowing the Galactic Civil War to grow to these reaches of the universe, with a significant skirmish in the Jupiter-Mars Asteroid Belt. Slave I, with Boba Fett piloting it, destroyed several X-Wings in the asteroid belt, possibly learning from his father while they were in an asteroid belt. After the Battle of Mars obliterated the Imperial forces there, leaving behind virtually nothing, the solar system was again abandoned.

After the fall of the Empire, the devices were seen as a weapon and destroyed by the New Republic , with the original schematics preserved to be reworked.
