Predatel Division was a penal battalion of the Srav Federation during the Cruentusian War. Introduced a year into the war, it was originally designed as part of a scheme to cut down costs in Srav gulags by sending the prisoners on suicide missions on the front, it expanded to become a full penal battalion consisting of regular criminals, dissidents, political prisoners, cowards, deserters, and occasionally enemy POWs. Most members were outfitted with comparatively crude explosives fitted to their spinal columns to prevent themselves from escaping. These explosives could be removed, but this often resulted in brain damage. In cases were said explosives were unavailable, a few high-ranking Srav soldiers were present to enforce disciple.
Predatel troops were often deliberately under-equipped and poorly armed, and were typically given suicide missions, such as scouting enemy territory or even being used as literal cannon fodder to use up enemy ammunition. Some Srav civilians protested against this, but often ended up in Predatel Division themselves.
