Just before and during the Clone Wars, the central government of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and its corporate allies within the Trade Federation, Commerce Guild, Corporate Alliance, Techno Union, and Intergalactic Banking Clans established colonies within Wild Space and even within the Unknown Regions starting in 24 BBY and continuing after the end of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY and the transformation of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire.
After the defeat and dissolution of the Separatist government and it's military forces, various CIS remnants fled the new Empire being created by Emperor Palpatine and ended up in the CIS colonies within Wild Space and the Unknown Regions.
Political system[]
In 18 BBY, various planets within the Unknown Regions and Wild Space affiliated with the former CIS met on the planet Nova Cato and founded the New Federation of Independent Worlds. It was governed by a provisional committee pending elections for a permanent government.
The New Federation of Independent Worlds rapidly established a military force composed of armed starships, battle droids, and local planetary militias composed of organic volunteers.
Economic system[]
In 17 BBY, the provisional committee of the New Federation established the Federal Corporation with control and ownership vested in executives and shareholders of former CIS-affiliated corporations who fled Imperial space to assume ownership and management of Trade Federation, Commerce Guild, Corporate Alliance, Techno Union, and Intergalactic Banking Clan corporate properties that were located on planets of the new government.
The official currency of both the New Federation and the Federal Corporation was based upon both the old system of Republic credits and the newer Imperial credits.
History[]
The early years of the New Federation of Independent Worlds saw it at war with the Galactic Empire, with the Federation losing up to 20 percent of it's planets and solar systems to Palpatine's Empire.
However, with the growing threat of armed rebellions within Imperial borders, the Federation and Imperial governments signed a ceasefire in 10 BBY.
Afterwards, the New Federation and the Federal Corporation explored and colonized dozens of new worlds within the Unknown Regions, sometimes coming into armed conflict with the Chiss and the Ssi-ruuk. Often, many of the colonists came from allies of the Federation, such as the planets Thundera and Barrayar.
While the expanding Federation mainly avoided conflict with the Yuuzhan Vong during their invasion of the galaxy of Galactic Prime from 26 ABY until 29 ABY, it along with the Galactic Federation Triumvirate was largely devastated by the Slayer-Ork Horde during it's own invasion of Galactic Prime from 140 ABY until 145 ABY.
