Petrichor was a Force-sensitive female varactyl technobeast created in 26 ATC by alchemist Sera Artofen and her master Darth Aivela. The product of Aivela's Crystal Synthesis Project, Petrichor was the first of the Sith Lord's crystalline mutants to be born naturally – rather than mutated artificially – and existed primarily as proof of concept for what she described as an "elevated lifeforms". Although almost physically identical to normal varactyl breeds, Petrichor sported a number of telling differences due to her alchemical engineering, primarily her passive access to the Force and her crystalline skeleton.
Shortly after her birth, Petrichor was gifted to "Little Ben" and Alucia Lambert who – along with their new-born sister Acina Lambert – were sent from their home on Lok to live with their father in Republic space, taking Petrichor with them as a pet. On seeing the creature, Benjamin Lambert contacted Frank Pad of the Republic Strategic Information Service, realizing that – in his absence – his estranged wife's experiments with bio-tech were becoming dangerous and unethical, which ultimately resulted in the establishment of Project Petrichor. As Petrichor grew older and larger a number of more overt, barnacle-like formations grew through her skin, and by the time she reached old age much of her body had been encased in a crystalline carapace that served as natural armour to shield her vital organs. This thick armoring made her heavier and impaired her movement to a noticeable degree, however.
Petrichor remained with Benjamin and his family for the rest of her natural life, living in their apartment in Tyrena after Benjamin refused to turn her over to Republic scientists for study. Along with the rest of the Lambert family, Petrichor moved to the world of Farrow in 28 ATC, where she eventually died of old age.
