POLYGLOT was a supercomputer employed by the Crytographic Section of Galactic Alliance Intelligence.
It was the product of five years of intensive collaboration between Galactic Alliance Intelligence and hired public-sector crytographic mathematicians. After the Yuuzhan Vong War's conclusion, Galactic Alliance consultants had projected despite the scars that the galaxy had felt during the war, the welts would be soon overrun by widespread civil disorder within months because of the inability of the Galactic Alliance's military to project power across the galaxy with its significantly reduced number of materiel and personnel. While this disorder turned out to be less of a threat than anticipated, with thanks to the Jedi Order, there was the inevitable possibility of a planetary rebellion - several disorganized terrorist or disenchanted governmental groups associating together to raise a coup that could decapitate a planetary government. However, such a serious offensive would require a massive trunk of communications, that is, encrypted communications.
