Owen Skywalker was the second child of Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker, the younger brother of Ben Skywalker. Unlike his family members, he became a smuggler, and later a mercenary. Owen was inadvertently responsible for the return of Darth Ruin when he took Ahli Keros, under the guise of an archeologist named Jaye Westron. He helped his family defeat Darth Ruin. He often used combat sticks as his weapon of choice.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Mara Jade Skywalker

Owen's mother, Mara Jade Skywalker.

Like his brother, Ben, Owen was raised in the Jedi Praxeum as a child. Though he was five years younger than his brother, they were close friends. Owen was also friends with his cousins Jacen and Jaina. Owen, as a Skywalker, was strong in the Force, but he was not interested in his training, as his brother was. He was more interested in his mother's history as a smuggler under Talon Karrde.

Disappearance of Jacen Solo[]

When Owen was a young teenager, the Jedi Praxeum was attacked by the Dark Jedi Kueller. During the battle, Jacen was apparently killed. This threw Owen's father into despair, and he left the Jedi Praxeum on a personal journey. Owen resented his father for leaving them at such a time, and grew even more spiteful of his training. Mara, seeing that her son did not want to be a Jedi, reluctantly sent him to live with Karrde.

Smuggling adventures[]

As Owen grew, Karrde allowed him to become more and more autonomous in his smuggling. To start with, Owen was his personal assistant and pilot, and stayed with him on the Wild Karrde. Eventually, Karrde assigned Owen his own vessel. Owen made many shipments behind Imperial lines while the New Republic and the Empire were still at war, though when the peace treaty was signed he focused more on the Outer Rim, as Karrde didn't want to be on the bed side of either the Republic or Empire.

Owen began to grow bored with the smuggling life, however, and he returned his vessel to Karrde and set out to be a mercenary. He fell in under the tutelage of a mercenary group called the Red Sabers. While with them, he learned several different fighting techniques. He had already become proficient with a blaster, but under the Red Sabers he also excelled with a blaster rifle and combat vibroblade.

Return to the Jedi[]

EliteClone1

Apren, Owen's commanding officer.

In 35 ABY, Owen and the Sabers were approached by a woman named Jaye Westron who said she wanted to take an archaeological tour of Moraband, and that she would pay them for protection. Seeing a chance for an easy payday, Commander Apren agreed. Owen was reluctant, but followed orders and shipped out with the other Sabers to the Sith world.

Upon arriving on Moraband, they had to fight through several packs of tu'kata. When they arrived at a tomb, Owen experienced a vision in which he was a Jedi leading an army of Jedi against a Sith. When the vision ended, he realized something was wrong. Before he could stop it, however, Westron revealed herself to be Ahli Keros, and she revived Darth Ruin. Owen attempted to attack the two Sith, but he was incapacitated, and the rest of the Sabers agreed to follow Ruin. At that moment, Owen's parents and brother came in and attempted to fight Ruin, but he and his followers retreated.

Battle of Yavin IV[]

Owen and the other Skywalkers rushed back to the Jade Sabre and tried to chase down Ruin before he could escape, but he managed to jump to hyperspace. Owen said that he might go to a space station the Red Sabers sometimes used as a base. When they arrived there, they found a small army of mercenaries, Sith, and Jedi Hunters poised to strike. They rushed back to Yavin IV.

By the time they arrived, the battle was already in motion. Mara dropped Ben, Luke, and Owen off in the jungle to help with the fight, while she helped evacuate students. Owen jet-packed into the jungle and saved Tenel Ka from being killed by Keros. He shot Keros in the chest several times and then fought off the rest of the Sith while Tenel Ka and the other Jedi retreated. He managed to make it back to the Jade Sabre and evacuate Yavin IV, but Ben and many other Jedi were unable to escape.

Fighting the Sith[]

Ben-death

Owen's brother, Ben, lies dead on the ground.

When Owen and the others who had escaped from Yavin IV arrived aboard Han Solo's warship, the Retaliation, they received a call from Darth Ruin. The Sith Lord demanded Luke Skywalker's surrender or he would begin executing Jedi. To prove his sincerity, he ran his lightsaber through Ben's chest, killing him. Owen, angry, insisted that his father not just turn himself in, but Luke wouldn't risk the lives of other Jedi.

Owen and Mara took the Jedi to Nar Shaddaa, where they set up an underground hideout. There, they began to make plans to strike back at the Sith. Owen took part in several training sessions with Jaina, Zekk, and the other young Jedi in order to help alleviate his stress and anger. During this time, he began using a pair of combat sticks. Meanwhile, Wraith Squadron got the Jedi detailed files on the surviving Sith. When they discovered that two Sith, Boc and Maw, were on Nar Shaddaa negotiating with the Hutts, they moved the Jedi students to an alternate safe house, and Owen and Mara set out together to take out the Sith.

They attacked the two Sith on a sky bridge outside a Hutt palace. Owen attacked Maw while Mara took Boc. Owen fired his blasters rapidly at Maw. The Sith had lost his legs during the battle of Yavin IV and could only move using a repulsorlift attached to his torso. This made him slower, and allowed Owen to outmaneuver him. He killed Maw quickly, and Mara took out Boc shortly thereafter.

When they returned to their first hideout to rendezvous with Jaina and Zekk, they found inside a Jedi Hunter. They engaged the Hunter in combat, and then two more Hunters deactivated their cloaking devices and attacked. Jaina and Zekk each managed to kill one Hunter, but the third escaped. The four quickly rushed to the new safe house.

Battle of Geonosis[]

Ahli

Ahli Keros sacrificed herself to allow Owen and Ben to help Rogue Squadron.

Upon returning to the safe house, they found that Luke had escaped, and that Ben was with him, alive. They and the other Jedi had escaped Yavin IV with the help of Wraith Squadron and Ahli Keros, who had been revived by Darth Ruin. Soon after, they located Darth Ruin's fleet orbiting Geonosis. There, they were still holding Jacen. The Retaliation and several other Republic vessels came to assist them.

Owen and Ben, along with their parents, landed on Ruin's warship in the Jade Sabre. Inside, they met Wraith Squadron, Mandalorians led by Etera Fett, and several other Jedi aboard the Raven's Claw. Outside a turbolift to the bridge, they were ambushed by a team of Jedi Hunters. Keros, Owen, and Ben remained behind to combat them while Luke, Mara, and the other Jedi proceeded to the bridge. Owen took out one of the Jedi Hunters, and Ben took out a pair as well, but they then received a call from Wraith Squadron telling them they needed help in the main power control room. Owen and Ben rushed to help them while Keros remained behind to fight the surviving Jedi Hunters.

Owen and Ben arrived at the power control room and fought off the mercenaries attacking Wraith Squadron. One member of the squadron, Trey Courser, planted bombs in the power control room. They fled the station and arrived at the hangar to find Jacob Nion returning with an exhausted Luke. Owen's father had killed Darth Ruin in an explosive Force battle and had become drained. They boarded the Sabre and abandoned the ship as it flew into Geonosis' asteroid field and exploded. Aboard, they found that Mara had rescued Jacen, who was mentally unstable after having been forced to fire upon Geonosis by Ruin.

They returned to Yavin IV, where Jacen decided to take a personal quest away from the Jedi Academy. Ben decided to take up the duties of a Jedi Ranger again, and Owen decided to go with him. The two traveled the Outer Rim together, taking care of slavers and gangsters.

Forming a Team[]

After a year of travelling with Ben as a Ranger, Owen was called back to Yavin IV by Jedi Master Kenth Hamner. Ben and Owen took their ship to the Praxeum. Hamner told them that Senator Fyor Rodan had been kidnapped by a terrorist group called the Unknown Regions Liberation Front. He asked the two Skywalkers to rescue Rodan. They agreed and took Jaina, Damien, and Tenel Ka with them.

They arrived at CZ-198, the moon that the URLF had taken Rodan to, and infiltrated the URLF base. Owen and the others climbed to the top of the facility and snuck inside. After fighting through several guards, they found Rodan with the URLF leader, Qazir Radique. Ben and the others rescued Rodan, while Owen chased Radique. He followed him to the edge of the base and confronted him. Radique would not surrender, and Owen was forced to shoot him, knocking him from the base to the desert below.

Persecution[]

Sabotage on New Alderaan[]

Sgt Karst

Sergeant Karst.

On New Alderaan, a Republic corporal named Raylee Toch was driving to the supply base when her speeder spun out of control. Toch was put in a coma. Hamner asked the Rangers to investigate, because Toch had been Force-sensitive. They travelled to New Alderaan, where Ben interrogated Toch's squad mates while Jaina, Damien, and Owen investigated the crime scene and Toch's locker and Tenel Ka guarded Toch. They found that Toch's speeder's windshield had been blown out from the inside—Toch had Force-blasted it out, involuntarily saving her own life.

Owen searched Toch's belongings and could find nothing in them that indicated criminal activity. Frustrated, he went to meet up with Ben, who told him that one of the soldiers had an unhealthy obsession with Toch. When that soldier went to the hospital to see Toch, Ben suspected him of the crime and called Tenel Ka to warn her while the four of them rushed to the hospital. They arrived to find Tenel Ka unconscious and Toch missing. However, it was not the soldier they suspected; it was Toch's CO, Sergeant Karst. The five Rangers managed to disable Karst, who told them he had tried to kill Toch because she was "unclean"—a Force-user.

Rescuing a Jedi[]

Jaden Korr HS

Jaden Korr.

Shortly thereafter, Jaden Korr was on the world Melida-Daan. The Melida, one of the planet's two factions, tried to kill him, and he called for help. While Owen, Jaina, Damien, and Tenel Ka searched for Jaden, Ben went to the Melida council to address them. Owen and Tenel Ka went together while Jaina and Damien went to Jaden's hotel room. Owen and Tenel Ka were attacked by a group of Melidan teenagers in the streets, but they managed to disable them without killing them.

They finally tracked Jaden to a warehouse and fought against several warriors who had been hunting him. Ben arrived just after the fight and told them they needed to leave quickly; the Melida council wanted to have Jaden arrested and executed. Before Melida security could arrive, they took Jaden offworld and returned to Yavin IV. Back on Yavin IV, the group was disturbed to find that the Melida Senator was one of Rodan's staunchest supporters for his campaign for Chancellor.

Kidnapping[]

Begg Lockam

Begg Lockam.

On Corellia, a woman named Reina Lurren had been kidnapped, and her boyfriend Wes Lockam called the Jedi for help. Hamner asked Ben and his team to investigate; Lurren had been Force-sensitive. Damien, because Corellia was his homeworld, took the lead on the mission. Ben and Owen investigated Lurren's apartment, while Damien, Jaina, and Tenel Ka talked to Lockam and his family.

In the apartment, Ben and Owen discovered that three people had been there—Wes and Reina, but one other unidentifiable person, who Ben sensed might be related to Wes. Owen commented that he wished he had Ben's powers of psychometry, which he found to be useful. They travelled out to Lockam's house, suspecting Wes's father. Wes was an enster, a Corellian who believed it was wrong to marry non-Corellians, or eksters. Because Lurren was only half-Corellian, Ben believed Wes's father might've kidnapped her, not wanting his son to marry an ekster. When they arrived, however, they found that Jaina and the others had already disabled Begg Lockam, Wes's brother. Begg had kidnapped Reina because of her Force-sensitivity.

Murder on Coruscant[]

Aaye Tuo

Aaye Tuo.

Several days later, Owen received orders from Hamner to travel to Coruscant. He went to get Ben from his quarters aboard the Wanderer. When he spoke to his brother, but instantly noticed that Ben seemed upset about something. He tried to get him to talk about it, but Ben refused to speak on the matter, so they proceeded to speak to Hamner about the mission.

On Coruscant, a swoop racer named Baxo Weriz was killed after a night in the cantina. He, too, was Force-sensitive, so Owen and the others investigated. Owen spoke to the bartender, an Ithorian, who told him he could look at the security vids. Owen did, but could find no concrete evidence. The bartender did say that a Twi'lek woman had been around the Rodian quite a bit, however. Meanwhile, Ben spoke to a waitress at the cantina, Seha Dorvald. When Seha realized Ben was a Jedi, she became uncooperative and cold toward him.

However, they discovered that the actual murderer was a Twi'lek named Aaye Tuo, a Senatorial aide. Tenel Ka, having discovered the poison used in the murder, said a chemical scanner could be used to identify the person who had administered the poison. Owen and the others went to the Senate to use the scanner on Tuo, while Ben went back to the cantina to try it on Dorvald. The Twi'lek senator was initially unwilling to let his aide submit to the scan, but he relented. When he did, Tuo was revealed to be the murderer, but the chemical was also found on the Senator himself, so both of them were arrested.

Owen and the others met up with Ben, who told them Dorvald had been innocent. They proceeded together to the dock where the Wanderer was, and on the way they were attacked by a man in Senate guard robes, and forced to kill him. They unmasked him, revealing a being of the same species as Radique. They quickly left Coruscant, worried that they would be arrested for killing a man who appeared to be a Senate guard.

War on Rattatak[]

Pilgrim-Jacen

Owen an the Rangers found Jacen on Ratattak.

Several weeks after the team returned from Coruscant, they received a warning that the planet Rattatak was under siege by the Unknown Regions Liberation Front. Hamner told them that since the Senate was still locked in voting over the new Chancellor, there was nobody to give the order for the New Republic military to intervene. He asked the Rangers to do it. Ben asked Jaden Korr, Zekk, and Jysella Horn to come along as backup.

When they arrived over Rattatak, Owen flew the Wanderer through the URLF fleet, while Jaina and Damien went down to their X-wings, and Ben and Zekk manned the Wanderer's quad cannons. They managed to fight through the URLF fleet over Rattatak and land on the planet, outside of one of its cities. While Ben, Jaina, and Damien fought for the city square, Owen was charged with leading the others to evacuate as many civilians as possible.

They fought through the city, defeating many URLF forces, when the city came under bombardment. Owen tried to contact Ben, but he, along with Jaina and Damien, had been captured and taken to the URLF flagship. Owen and the others tried to lead the civilians to safety, but as they did they were beset by attackers. A mysterious hooded man came out of a house and helped them, and then told them to follow him into the house's basement. They made it to safety just before the bombs reached their position.

In the basement, the hooded man revealed himself to be Jacen Solo. He told the Rangers that he'd been on Rattatak when the attack had happened and he'd been trying to get civilians to safety ever since. Owen determined that they needed a plan to rescue their friends. Jacen initially didn't want to help, because he didn't want to be a fighter anymore, but to save his sister, as well as Ben and Damien, he agreed. Owen contacted Talon Karrde for help, and they set out to board the enemy flagship. They then fought to the ship's war room, where their friends were being held.

They sensed an ysalamiri bubble in that room, so the others charged in while Owen took out the ysalamiri. They discovered that Qazir Radique had survived and was behind the attack. Radique fled in an escape shuttle before he could be captured, however. At that time, Karrde's smuggler fleet emerged from hyperspace and drove Radique's forces back long enough for the Wanderer and many evac ships to escape. Back aboard the Wanderer, the Rangers urged Jacen to become a permanent member of the team. Jacen was hesitant, but he agreed to join the team on a trial basis.

Protecting a Model[]

Katrina Vissant

Katrina Vissant, whom Owen had a crush on..

Shortly thereafter, Ben and the others were tasked with protecting Katrina Vissant, a famous model. She had been targeted for assassination by an unknown party, and testing had proven her Force-sensitive. Vissant was shuttled to Yavin IV, where Owen and the others would escort her to her next show on Christophsis. Owen, who had a crush on Vissant, was particularly excited about the assignment. While they protected her, Jaina and Damien went to Coruscant to investigate the attempted murder

When Vissant arrived on Yavin IV, Ben came up with an idea to protect her. Realizing she bore a resemblance to Tahiri Veila, he asked Tahiri to pose as Vissant. Tahiri agreed, and her boyfriend Aren Lical insisted on joining them on the mission, as well. Owen greeted Vissant and stuck close to her throughout the mission. They boarded the Wanderer and headed for Christophsis.

On Christophsis, as the others secured the building, Owen stuck with Vissant. Tahiri took her place on the runway, while Owen stayed with her backstage. Meanwhile, Ben ran into Seha Dorvald, who was now working as a stagehand.

Jaina and Damien called and told Ben that the trap on Coruscant had been installed recently, probably just before Vissant had arrived. Ben sent Jacen to guard Vissant's dressing room. He contacted Owen and told him that the assassin was one of the stage managers, Avir Keros, sister of Ahli Keros. Owen quickly took Vissant to the exit, but when Tahiri was grabbed by Keros, he went to the roof instead to stop her.

As Owen reached the rooftop, Jaina arrived and accosted Keros. However, Keros pointed a blaster at Tahiri's head and warned Jaina to stay back. She said that she believed it was her sister's Force-sensitivity that had gotten her killed, and she wanted revenge. Tahiri managed to escape Keros' grasp and disable her. She was arrested by the Jedi and taken into custody. With no further threat to Vissant's life, the Rangers returned to Yavin IV. Owen told Vissant goodbye but her reaction to danger had marginalized his feelings for her. Ben said he was still curious about Seha and what, if anything, she had to do with the situation at large.

Investigating Seha Dorvald[]

Seha 3

Seha Dorvald.

While staying on Yavin IV, the group was approached by Dorvald, who said bounty hunters had tried to capture her. Owen quickly went and got Ben from the training room. He warned Ben that he would not be happy with the situation, but did not otherwise warn him.

In the lounge that the Rangers often relaxed in, they were all gathered with Dorvald. Ben was stunned to see her, and asked what she was doing there. She told him she had been attacked by three armored mercenaries who had been trying to capture her. She confessed that she had a small connection to the Force, though not enough to train as a Jedi, and it had made her somewhat bitter toward the Jedi because she couldn't be one of them. Ben agreed that if her kidnappers were connected to whoever had been attacking Force-users in recent months, they needed to investigate.

They traveled to Coruscant with Dorvald. On the way, Ben contacted his and Owen's father and asked him if he had any contacts in the Coruscant Security Force. Luke recommended that Ben talk to Lon Shevu, a captain. While Jaina and Damien investigated the cantina Seha had been at the night before, Ben and the others went to CSF, and Ben talked to Shevu. Owen and the others remained in the lobby with Seha, keeping her under careful guard.

Soon, Jaina and Damien arrived and supplied them with images of the men who'd followed Seha from the cantina. They met briefly with Ben and Shevu, and then came back out to see the others. Before they could explain in-depth what was going on, however, they urged everyone to return to the Wanderer. They told Shevu goodbye and quickly went back to the spaceport.

Back on the ship, as they headed for Yavin IV, Ben told the others what he'd discovered—the URLF may have been involved in all the attacks on Force-users from the start. Before they could discuss it fully, however, the Wanderer was pulled out of hyperspace. They rushed to the cockpit and found one of Radique's warships waiting for them.

Alliance with the Chiss[]

Jagged Fel

Jagged Fel, commander of Vanguard Squadron.

Determined not to be taken alive, Owen and the others prepared to go down fighting. Seha revealed that her mother had been a Jensaarai, and that is was possible Radique wanted her for the information she had. While Jaina and Damien piloted their X-wings out to face Radique's starfighters, Ben and Jacen manned the Wanderer's quad cannons and fired at Radique's ship, the Preemptive Strike. Owen tried to fly the ship away from the interdiction field, but they took heavy damage. The Rangers were about to be destroyed when twelve vessels like TIE Fighters came out of hyperspace and attacked Radique's forces. The commander of the mysterious team recommended that the Wanderer flee to safety while they could. The Wanderer jumped to hyperspace for Yavin IV.

When they arrived, they agreed to meet the commander of the group. On the ground, they met and he introduced himself as Commander Jagged Fel. Fel said he and his squadron had been hunting Radique for some time. The Jedi took them into a conference room, where they discussed Radique. Fel told them that Radique was not a representative of the Chiss as a whole; in fact, he was a radical. He and his forces had become determined to fight those outside the Unknown Regions ever since Radique had first seen Force-users in action. Fel recommended taking out Radique in a tactical strike. Though Owen was especially in favor of this action, and most of the others agreed, Jacen was reluctant, and Ben asked for a recess for them to deliberate the idea.

Eventually, Jacen agreed to go along with it, and Ben told Jag that they would help him. The Rangers, along with Seha, a squadron of Jedi led by Kyp Durron, and Wraith Squadron flew to face Radique's fleet beside Jag's Vanguard Squadron. They planned to have the fighter squadrons engage the fleet while the Rangers boarded the Preemptive Strike and took out Radique personally. One they were aboard, they split up—Ben, Tenel Ka, and Jacen heading to the bridge with Seha in tow, and Owen, Jaina, and Damien headed for Radique's war room.

Owen and the others reached Radique's war room and surrounded him, but he released secret wall panels that revealed cortosis-lined war droids. Radique headed for a secret passageway. Owen set off after Radique after defeating one of the droids, leaving Jaina and Damien to finish off the others. He stopped Radique before he reached his escape ship, and Radique revealed that he had a detonator that would blow the whole ship; Owen could either leave with his friends and possibly escape, or he could shoot Rodan and die in the explosion. Radique then revealed the name of his group—the Purists. Owen allowed him to leave and quickly fled. The group made it back to their ships and departed just before the Preemptive Strike was destroyed.

Back on Yavin IV, Fel and the remnant of his squadron bade Ben and the others farewell. They said they would return to Csilla to rearm, and then resume the hunt for Radique. The group wished them well and watched as they departed.

Warning the Force-users[]

The Jensaarai[]

Alexa Dorn

Alexa Dorn, Seha Dorvald's maternal aunt.

They had not been back on Yavin IV very long when they were contacted by a Jensaarai Master named Alexa Dorn. Dorn requested their help, as Purist scouts had been sighted on Susevfi. Seha requested that they check it out, as she had past ties with the Jensaarai. The Rangers agreed, and they went to Susevfi. They were met by Dorn and her apprentice, Bole Rostu. Dorn revealed that she was Seha's aunt. She led them into the Jensaarai palace.

Inside the Jensaarai palace, they were taken to meet the Saarai-kaar, leader of the Jensaarai. The Saarai-kaar was angered at the Jedi's presence and dueled Ben. However, as the duel went on, a missile struck the palace; the Purists had arrived. The Saarai-kaar accepted the Rangers' help. Owen fought several war droids and Purists before realizing that the enemy starfighter support needed to be taken out. He ran to his X-wing, boarded it, and shot down the Purist fighters, thus preventing the Jensaarai palace from being bombed. By the time he landed, the battle was over.

Seha told the group that she intended to remain on Susevfi with her aunt; she hadn't had a real family in a long time, and she was eager to reconnect with Dorn. Ben felt bad that she was leaving, but wished her well along with the rest of the group. They travelled back to Yavin IV to prepare for their next mission. Ben suggested that they seek out other Force-using sects like the Jensaarai and warn them that the Purists might be attacking them, too.

The Matukai[]

Brant Jennings

Brant Jennings, the Matukai apprentice Owen became friends with.

When they returned to Yavin IV, Owen began making a tactical list of which orders were most likely to be targeted. He settled on the Zeison Sha, as they were a militant group located in one temple, where the Purists could easily strike. He prepared to take this suggestion to Ben.

Before he could, they were approached by a Matukai apprentice named Brant Jennings. His master, Maxid Pothe, had been captured by the Purists on Hoth, and he wanted the Rangers' help to rescue him. As they travelled to Hoth, Owen went to the training room where Jennings was going through his combat techniques. Owen told Jennings he'd be glad to train with him, and the two fought together for several minutes. Both were impressed with the other's skills.

They soon arrived on Hoth Hoth and, using a snow crawler, crossed the planet to the place Jennings's master was being held. The base was guarded, but lightly enough that the Rangers suspected a trap.

They formulated a plan in which Owen drove the crawler into the middle of camp as a distraction and destroyed the camp's generator, while Ben and the others fought the Purist guards, and Jennings rescued his Master. Owen drove the crawler straight for the generator, with Damien firing its upper cannon. As soon as the generator took damage, Owen swung the crawler around and headed for the edge of the camp. He and Damien leapt out of the crawler as debris from the generator landed on it and destroyed it. The Rangers and Matukai went to a nearby cave and hid while they waited for an oncoming blizzard to pass.

While they waited, Owen trained with Pothe, and the Matukai Adept was as impressed with Owen's combat skills as Jennings had been. When the blizzard finally passed, Ben contacted Tweeter aboard the Wanderer and had the droid bring the ship to their position. They left Hoth and returned to Yavin IV, where Pothe and Jennings said goodbye to them and gave Owen a gift, a Matukai apprentice's tunic.

The Zeison Sha[]

Vinsek Ty

Vinsek Ty, Zeison Sha Warrior.

The Rangers' next stop was Yanibar. Owen informed Ben of his suspicions about the Zeison Sha and Jacen, using meditation, determined that he was probably correct. As they prepared to depart for Yanibar, they were contacted by a member of the Zeison Sha, Vinsek Ty, who told them a Purist scouting party had attacked them and killed his daughter. The group travelled to Yanibar, and Ben warned them that the Zeison Sha had a long-standing rivalry with the Jedi, so they shouldn't expect a warm welcome.

When they landed on Yanibar, they were met by Vinsek, who told them he would take them to meet the leaders of the Zeison Sha. He warned them that if the masters did not trust them, they would challenge one of the Rangers to combat using a discblade, the signature weapon of the Zeison Sha. Jaina asked to be the one to accept the challenge, and Owen supported her in this. When the masters came in, they discussed the issue of the Purists with the Rangers. They believed they would be able to fight off the Purists, but the Rangers insisted that the attackers would have secrets that the Zeison Sha wouldn't be expecting. One of the masters challenged them to combat, and Jaina agreed. She and the master fought with discblades, and Jaina showed skill in the technique. The fight ended when both combatants took a cut on the forearm from the other's blade.

The Zeison Sha agreed to allow the Rangers to help. Jaina and Damien flew starfighter support, while Ben, Jacen, Owen, and Tenel Ka fought the ground forces. The Zeison Sha discblades proved to be useful against the cortosis-lined battle droids the Purists brought, and with the help of the Rangers they managed to drive the attackers back. They left Yanibar on good terms with the Zeison Sha; Ben noted that their relations were better than they ever had been.

The Jal Shey[]

Gaile Bavez

Gaile Bavez, Jal Shey Neophyte and Ben's old flame.

Shortly thereafter, Ben approached Owen and told him they had a mission. On Denon, a group of Jal Shey had been attacked and two of them kidnapped. Ben informed the group that Gaile Bavez, the younger of the two, was an old friend and that they had at one point been in a brief relationship. Owen joked with him about this before the Rangers set out for Denon.

When they arrived, Ben had Damien, Owen, and Jaina investigate the kidnapping site while he, Tenel Ka, and Jacen probed the city for the two Jal Shey. They searched the rooftop and Owen suspected that a security camera from a building next door might have caught something. In fact, they found a recording showing the attackers' speeder and which direction it had headed after the attack. They quickly met up with the others and told them about it. As they continued to follow the trail, Ben sighted a Chiss walking down the streets. He and Jacen quickly accosted the alien and interrogated him. Though he was a Purist, he refused to reveal the location of the two Jal Shey. Jacen probed the alien's mind to discover the location and then Ben knocked the Chiss out.

They soon found the warehouse where the Purists were holding the Jal Shey. They fought inside and Ben and Owen advanced into the room where Gaile and Sayens were being held, while the other Rangers secured the warehouse's main room. When they freed the Jal Shey and returned to the main room, Gaile and Sayens were grabbed by two Chiss who had been knocked unconscious, and then awakened and ambushed them. They threatened to kill the women unless the Jedi surrendered. Jacen, using the Force, lifted Ben's lightsaber and used it to kill both Chiss. They returned the women to the spaceport. Gaile told Ben goodbye with a hug, and Sayens told Jacen that she sensed how much he had disliked killing, and that he would have a place with the Jal Shey if he ever wanted one. Then, they departed Denon.

The Fallanassi[]

Ben spoke with his parents on the holocomm shortly thereafter, and Luke suggested the Fallanassi on Pydyr. Owen and the others set out for Pydyr, and Ben warned them that they would be unable to see the island the Fallanassi lived on because of the culture's expertise in illusions. However, Ben's father had taught him how to use the White Current to see through the illusions, so Ben showed his friends how to do so, as well. Owen was surprised when the island seemingly appeared out of nowhere after he used the technique.

When they landed on the Fallanassi island, they were met my a woman named Norika, who took them to see the Fallanassi leader, Akanah. Akanah told them their help was unnecessary, as the Purists couldn't pierce the Fallanassi illusion around the island. Another Fallanassi, Leena Amoly, told the Rangers that she had seen Purists in Pydyr's capital. Ben and his friends went to Pydyr, but they left Tenel Ka behind to talk to Akanah. While in the capital, Ben was surprised and stunned by one of the Purists. Owen tried to rescue him, but the captors took him to a hostel room. Owen and the others quickly rescued Ben, with Owen sniping both of Ben's captors from across the street. Then, they returned to the island. When they arrived, they found Tenel Ka apparently had two arms, but she revealed that she had learned how to use White Current illusions. She said she was confident that the Purists would not find the island, so they left Pydyr.

The Aing-Tii[]

After several more missions, Ben contacted Talon Karrde, Owen's former employer, who told him that the species called the Aing-Tii used the Force and might be targeted by the Purists. Owen and the Rangers took the Wanderer into the Kathol Rift to find the Aing-Tii. When they arrived they found a Purist warship already at the planet. Jaina and Jacen, flying their X-wings, battled the warship and its starfighter contingent, while Ben and the rest took the Wanderer down to the planet.

They arrived at an Aing-Tii village to find it empty, and they soon located the Purists, who were chasing the Aing-Tii into a cave. Three Aing-Tii were fighting the Purists, and with the Rangers' help, they quickly defeated the Purists. The Aing-Tii leader, Tadar'Ro, thanked the group, and told them that they would be using their teleportation abilities to move to a different planet. Tadar'Ro gave Damien a vor'cha stun stick, the Aing-Tii weapon of choice, for his part in helping them. The Rangers took the Wanderer back into space and destroyed the warship, and then the group returned to Yavin IV.

Rescuing the Jedi Prisoners[]

Alema Rar[]

Alema Rar.

The next morning, Kenth Hamner reached out to Ben and asked him and the Rangers to look into two missing Jedi. He said that since the Purist threat had started, he'd been sending Jedi out to bring back those who were out on missions, so they wouldn't have a repeat of what happened to Jaden Korr on Melida/Daan. He'd sent Zekk to find Alema Rar, who had been considered a Dark Jedi since Darth Ruin's defeat. Zekk and Alema had both gone missing on Nar Shaddaa. The Rangers quickly flew to Nar Shaddaa to investigate.

They found that Zekk's X-wing had been impounded, as it had been left unattended for over a week. They traced him to the Red Light Sector and decided to figure out who Alema had been targeting. They settled on a crime lord named Ankon Torv who ran a den of pleasure slaves. They went to Torv's bar and interrogated him. Owen became enraged at the sight of the women and became violent with Torv. After Torv gave them the information they needed, Owen also forced him to free his slaves, warning them that he would return if he ever heard of him harming girls like that again. Torv gave them access to his security holocams, and they traced Alema's captor to an upper floor of Torv's building. They also discovered that she and Zekk had been taken to different places, and that Zekk's captor had been a Mandalorian. This alarmed Jaina, and she and Damien left before rescuing Alema.

Ben, Owen, Jacen, and Tenel Ka quickly went to the floor Alema was held on. They broke in and defeated two guards, and Ben and Owen rescued Alema. Meanwhile, Jacen and Tenel Ka killed the ysalamiri in the building and captured the Purist commander at the base. The commander refused to reveal information, and tried to kill Ben with a hidden dagger. Owen was forced to kill the man. They took Alema back to Yavin IV and set out to meet up with Jaina and Damien.

Zekk[]

Zekk.

Jaina and Damien contacted them and told them that they had discovered that Zekk was being held on Denon. The Rangers took the Wanderer to the planet and met their two friends in orbit. Jaina and Damien docked with the Wanderer, and then they headed down to the base where the Purists were keeping Zekk. It was well-defended, so they had Tweeter pilot the Wanderer and drop them at the base while he continued to keep the ship out of range of the base's anti-air weapons.

The Rangers quickly fought through the base and took a turbolift down to the prison level. There, they were attacked by more Purists. They fought their way through them and soon found Zekk. In addition, he had a cellmate named Savara Raine. Both had been tortured, and the Rangers quickly helped them back to the turbolift. Owen broke off from the rest of the group, taking Ben with him, to destroy the two anti-air cannons so the Wanderer could get back in range. Owen gave Ben a detonator to use on one cannon, while he took out the other. He killed the guards near the cannon, planted the detonator, and then leapt off the roof to be caught by the Wanderer. When they had picked up Ben, they fled Denon.

On the way back to Yavin IV, Zekk explained that his captor had been an ex-Republic military officer named Atton Repness. Repness had tortured them for information on the Jedi Praxeum, but Zekk had given up very little information. He also told them that he had promised Savara he would train her in the ways of the Jedi when they returned to Yavin IV. Tenel Ka then took Savara back to a room to sleep, while Owen and his friends left Zekk to sleep in the Wanderer's main hold.

Defeating Radique[]

The Rangers decided to finish off Radique once and for all. While they prepared for all-out war with him, Owen and Ben secretly contacted the other Force-using groups they'd helped and organized a secret plan that only they knew about. At that time, Jagged Fel and his Vanguard Squadron arrived on Yavin IV, having refueled and rearmed. They once again offered their help. Hamner, Luke, and Mara also said that they would help get Republic forces involved. Kyle Katarn and Kyp Durron agreed to lead squadrons of Jedi fighters in the battle.

The next morning, they prepared to set out. Underneath his combat armor, Owen wore the Matukai apprentice's tunic he'd been given by Maxid Pothe. The group met with Wraith Squadron, who once again offered to assist in the battle. They were joined by the Retaliation, commanded by Captain Tubrimi, who'd formerly served under Han Solo. The group moved in together and engaged Radique's fleet over the ruins of Alderaan. Ben, Jacen, Owen, and Damien boarded one of the warships, intending to turn its weapons on Radique's command ship. Ben exited his fighter first and was surrounded by enemies. Owen quickly joined and, using a blaster rifle, defeated many of the terrorist forces. They were joined by Damien and Jacen, and together they finished off the enemies in the hangar.

Ben, Jacen, Owen, and Damien fought through the ship and eventually allowed themselves to be captured and taken to the bridge. When they arrived, they found themselves surrounded by cortosis-lined droids. However, they were saved when the Aing-Tii teleported in-system, and then sent soldiers right onto the bridge, including Seha Dorvald, Vinsek Ty, and others. They quickly defeated the enemy and turned the weapons on Radique's warship. Though the Jedi and Republic lost some forces, the battle ended in a success, with Radique's entire fleet wiped out. They all returned to Yavin IV to celebrate, where Damien proposed to Jaina. She accepted the proposal, and the two were engaged to be married.

Rodan's Election[]

Lon Shevu

Lon Shevu helped the Rangers on Coruscant.

During the preparation for Jaina's wedding, the group remembered when they'd first met Damien, only days before Jacen was presumed killed by Kueller. After the wedding, at the reception, Owen then asked Seha to dance when he saw her watching Ben and Gaile dance. Owen determined to talk to Ben and tell him that Seha obviously had feelings for him.

The next day, the Rangers, except for Jaina and Damien, went to Coruscant to vote in the election. While there, they were approached by Lon Shevu, who told them that a woman who resembled Seha Dorvald had been attacked by a gang, two members of which had born white fist symbols. Ben agreed to investigate. After voting for Cal Omas, Owen and the others briefly went to the Jedi Enclave on Coruscant to make a plan. While Luke and Mara contacted the Jedi Council, Ben and Owen went to talk to the victim while Tenel Ka and Jacen investigated the home where the attackers had been found.

Though Ben and Owen had no luck, Jacen and Tenel Ka discovered that the attackers had, in fact, been Purists. They discovered a lockbox full of commands that included images of all the Rangers. They contacted Jaina and Damien to warn them that they might be in danger. Two days later, they went to the Senate tower to hear the results of the election. Fyor Rodan was voted into office, and he immediately declared that all Force-users should be interned. Luke and Mara told Ben and the others to get offworld immediately, which they did—after getting Gaile from her place in the Senate tower—with Shevu's help.

Going Into Hiding[]

Lightsaber padme rots

Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, which Owen took as his own temporary weapon.

They quickly fled back to Yavin IV, where they began to evacuate Jedi. Owen ran inside the Praxeum and spoke to the Jedi Council members who were there. He insisted that they make him a Jedi Knight; he felt that it was time to join his family, since they were being punished only for being Jedi. He wanted to hold that honor beside them. The Council reluctantly agreed after Masters Katarn and Hamner said that Owen had faced all the trials a Jedi Knight normally would. In place of building his own lightsaber, Owen temporarily took up Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber, with the promise to the Council that he would build his own as soon as he could.

The evacuation continued, and Damien and Owen spoke briefly about where the safest place would be for the Jedi. They decided to take the students to Jacen's Unknown World, but Owen wanted a separate spot for the Rangers to be housed at. He contacted Wes Lockam on Corellia, and Wes agreed to allow the Rangers to hide on his property, since they had saved Reina's life.

As they evacuated, Tenel Ka was shot in the abdomen by a sniper. Several Purist soldiers charged at the Praxeum, and Owen and the others fought back. However, as he fought, Owen realized that he had instinctively drawn his blaster instead of his new lightsaber. Once the Purists had been dealt with, they began loading the Wanderer and the other vessels with Jedi. Jaina helped pilot one shuttle, while the rest of them loaded apprentices aboard other shuttles and the Wanderer. As they left Yavin IV, a ship jumped out of hyperspace—the damaged remains of Radique's flagship. The Chiss commander opened fire on the Jedi shuttles, but Owen, who was flying the Wanderer, quickly blew the Chiss ship's engines, killing Radique for good.

The Jedi were relocated to the Unknown World where Jacen's students had been taught, while the Rangers went to the Lockam estate on Corellia. There, they formed a camp of Force-users who were prepared to fight back against the Purists. They were joined by many who they'd saved in the past, including Seha, Raylee Toch, Brant Jennings, and Katrina Vissant. The Jedi who joined the Rangers included Tahiri, Zekk, Aren, Lowbacca, and Savara.

Guerrilla Fighting[]

Over the next year, the Rangers performed hit-and-run strikes against Purist targets, rescuing those that they could and setting them free. During this time, Owen began gathering parts to construct his own lightsaber. Eventually, he collected the components he needed, but after several attempts, was unable to properly construct the saber. This frustrated Owen, and he placed the components in a drawer.

The Rangers later went on a rescue mission to the planet Onadax. When the others snuck into the prisoner compound, Owen stayed nearby with a sniper rifle, while Tahiri stayed with the transport truck. Reinforcements arrived while the Rangers were freeing the prisoners, and Owen began shooting them as the Rangers and freed Force-sensitives fled. They managed to escape with no casualties and drop the freed prisoners off far from Onadax.

Journey to Dathomir[]

Balii

Balii Penton.

One day, Tenel Ka received a vision of danger on her ancestral home of Dathomir. Ben agreed to travel there, and they took a YT-1000 freighter to the planet. In the atmosphere, the ship was struck by lightning which Tenel Ka suspected was unnatural and targeting them specifically. The freighter went down but was only minimally damaged.

The crew agreed to split up: Jacen and Tenel Ka would rush ahead to the Singing Mountain clan, while Owen went to the abandoned Imperial outpost to scavenge parts for the freighter, and Ben and the others caught up with Jacen and Tenel Ka after gathering supplies out of the freighter. However, as Ben and the others were working, they noticed three Dathomiri women bathing in the lake nearby. The women agreed to take Ben and the others to their village, which was on the way to the Singing Mountain clan.

Owen's journey was interrupted when he met a woman at a river. The woman told Ben she was Balii Penton, a member of the Singing Mountains clan. She offered to take Owen to the Imperial outpost. The two journeyed together and managed to collect the parts Owen needed to repair the ship. Then, using a hoversled, they headed back. On the way, they found that Ben and the others had been taken captive by the Witches from the beach, who were actually Nightsisters. Owen and Balii leapt in to rescue them, and Jacen, Tenel Ka, and the Singing Mountain clan joined in the fight.

Seeing the clan was now safe with the Nightsisters defeated, the Rangers departed Dathomir. Penton accompanied them, stating her desire to leave the planet as other Dathomiri like Tenel Ka and Kirana and Sanola Ti had.

The Rangers are Split[]

Kylo Ren

The mysterious masked man that Owen and the others were asked to fight.

Several weeks later, Owen finally finished the construction of his lightsaber. As he did, the camp was visited by Jag Fel. The man told the Rangers that there was a war raging with an extremist Imperial group called the First Order. Fighting the First Order was a Resistance led by Ben's aunt Leia, as well as several ex-Republic officers, and even a few Jedi. Jag told them that a dark side Force user was terrorizing Resistance forces, and that Leia had requested he come to find them.

Ben and the others considered the offer, but Ben felt his duty was with the Rangers, fighting the Purists. Jacen, Tenel Ka, Seha, and Gaile agreed with him, as did many others in the camp. However, Owen, Jaina, Damien, Zekk, Savara, and Balii felt that they should go with Jag. Ben told them that the Rangers had been formed because they needed to be flexible, and so he felt no ill will toward them for leaving if they wanted to. Owen and the others said goodbye to Ben and then left in the YT-1000. Jag led them to the Resistance base on Yaga Minor.

When they arrived over Yaga Minor, they found the system was the site of a raging space battle between the Resistance and the First Order. Owen and the others assisted in the battle by targeting one of the Star Destroyers that was attacking the system. The First Order eventually retreated, and the Rangers were allowed to land at the Resistance base. When Owen and the others were reunited with Leia, they also met Commander Jyke Skellers, one of the Resistance's top officers. Skellers assigned Owen, along with Balii, to the 41st Commandos. The rest of the Rangers were split up among the Resistance's ranks.

Battle of Yaga Major[]

A few days later, the First Order attacked Yaga Major. Hardpoint and Blue Squadrons were sent to combat the First Order strike team, leaving Owen and the others to remain at the command center and watch as Jaina and Damien fought alongside the fighter pilots. Owen found it frustrating to wait and watch, but he remained in the command center with Leia.

The battle ended in the Resistance's favor when General Ematt's strike team emerged from hyperspace and assisted the two squadrons of X-wings. The First Order Star Destroyer Finalizer jumped into the system and covered the First Order team's retreat. The Resistance returned to Yaga Minor, with the battle considered their victory due to the damage they'd dealt to the enemy fleet.

Personality and Traits[]

Angry Owen

Owen was hot-tempered as a younger man.

Owen was more cynical than his brother, Ben, who was described as joyful and bouncy. Owen was cavalier, affecting a devil-may-care attitude that often got him into trouble. His father compared him to his mother, however Mara disagreed with this comparison and said Owen was more like his uncle Han. Owen's cynicism was never because of true pessimism, however; he merely learned from experience that bad things often happened, and was willing to take them as they came. For many years, he feared to get close to people because of this. He worried that they would betray him, or that they would be hurt because of him or their connection to him. He also had a fiery temper, easily becoming angry and lashing out.

However, Owen was also a witty and humorous person, exhibiting sarcasm in abundance. He was quick to crack a joke to defuse a tense situation, because due to his cynicism, he realized that good was needed to balance it out. This was shown when he cracked a joke to Damien about the "Order of the Terrible Glare" despite the fact that a group of Force-users had just been wiped out, and when he griped about a sticky table after resting his head on it.

When Owen joined his brother and eventually became a Jedi Ranger, his personality began to change. He was more open with his friends, allowing himself to get close to them. He began to care for them, and became intensely protective of all of them, willing to die rather than see any of them hurt. Owen also became more compassionate, caring for those who were in danger of having their lives ripped away from them by the Purists. His temper began to change, too, and he became a more level-headed person.

Owen was also condemning of those who he felt had betrayed him. When Ahli Keros, who was disguised as Jaye Westron, revealed that she had only used Owen to get to Darth Ruin's tomb, Owen became determined to get back at her, and shortly thereafter killed her on Yavin IV. When Keros was revived by Ruin's dark side powers, Owen did not want to trust her when she tried to help him and his family. However, when she was killed while protecting them, he felt sorry for his attitude toward her and admitted that she really had changed.

Equipment[]

As a smuggler, mercenary, Ranger, and Jedi, Owen used a vast array of weapons, armor, and other gear throughout his career. As his journey progressed, he took to using more close-range weapons than the long-range blasters he used in his early life. However, due to the wide array of careers Owen held, he never stuck to one weapon, instead using whatever was practical for the situation.

Blaster pistol[]

Owen's pistol

While working as a smuggler for Talon Karrde, Owen used a short, snub-nosed blaster pistol. Because of the type of work he did, Owen rarely used the blaster in combat. However, he kept the weapon and trained with it often. When he eventually left Karrde's organization, he kept the blaster to remember his mentor, and used it throughout his mercenary career. Even when he returned to the Jedi, Owen often used the blaster as a backup weapon. It was with this weapon that he shot and killed Ahli Keros on Yavin IV.

Blaster rifle[]

Owen's rifle

After joining the Red Sabers, Owen began using a blaster rifle as his primary weapon. Owen was given this rifle by the Red Sabers' commanding officer, and Owen jokingly claimed that the commander had given him the ancient rifle because he wanted it to blow up in his hands. The rifle, which had been extensively modified, had been used by the commander since the Galactic Civil War. Owen managed to get the rifle in working condition again and used it for the entirety of his career with the Sabers.

He continued to use the rifle after he left the Sabers, although with less and less frequency. He used it during the Battle of Yavin IV, but after that he began using a pair of combat batons as his primary weapons, so though he carried the rifle with him, he did not use it as often. When the Rangers went on a mission that required a lookout or sniper, however, Owen would use the weapon, which had been modified to have an extended range.

Vibroblade[]

Owen had a personal vibroblade that he used during his time as a mercenary and later as a backup weapon as a Ranger. It was the least-used of Owen's weapons, and he more often used it as a tool for opening access panels or slicing cords than he did for combat purposes.

Combat batons[]

Main article: Owen Skywalker's combat batons

Owen used a pair of combat batons in battle after Yavin IV. He took to using the batons to combat the Reborn Sith Order's lightsabers, because he did not like using lightsabers himself. He upgraded the batons as he used them. At first, the batons were lightsaber resistant due to being made of phrik, but Owen added an electrical generator in the pommels to make the weapons more like stun batons. The electricity they generated also allowed him to use the batons against armored foes.

The batons became Owen's primary weapons for several years, during his time as a Jedi Ranger. He used them at the Battle of Ratattak, and even after building his own lightsaber continued to use them frequently.

Lightsaber[]

When Owen accepted the position of Jedi Knight, he began using a lightsaber. At first, he used his grandfather's lightsaber since he did not have time to build his own. Once he did construct his own, orange-bladed saber, he kept his grandfather's lightsaber but did not use it. He eventually gave Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber to a scavenger named Rey, whom he met on Jakku and began training as a Jedi. When the Rangers were asked to help the Resistance fight Kylo Ren, Owen began using the lightsaber as his primary weapon.

EL-16 Blaster rifle[]

While assigned to the Resistance's 41st Commandos, Owen used a standard-issue EL-16 blaster rifle for combat missions. The shortened rifle was powerful and required little maintenance, which allowed it to be used in many situations and still be effective. Owen used the rifle in many combat missions, including the mission to Ord Sedra, during which Owen was lost in the jungle by himself.
