The Osraan calendar was the most widely used civil calendar on Mure, taking into account the specific orbital period and rotation period of Mure relative to its distance from its star. It was implemented and instituted by Osraa, the first Rakata predor of the Infinite Empire successor state known as the Murese First Predorate, in 25,200 BBY.[1][2] As the Rakata Mure tribe considered it taboo to acknowledge the Infinite Empire's fall, the Osraan calendar's epoch reference point was formally the formation of the First Predorate in 25,200 BBY. However, following the revelations between 9066 BBY and 5399 BBY that Empire colonies in the Deep Core and Core Worlds had indeed fallen,[3][4] the abbreviations "AFIE" ("After the Fall of the Infinite Empire") and "BFIE" ("Before the Fall of the Infinite Empire") generally replaced references to the First Predorate.

Description

Units of time measurement

The Osraan calendar was a conventional solar calendar composed of 2,116 Mure days per Mure year. A "year" referred to a single orbital period of Mure around the North Star. Years were broken into eight major subdivisions of 264-268 days apiece, each of which was called a "season." These were numbered according to their appearances in the progression of a year. While each of the first seven seasons possessed 264 days, the final season possessed the remaining four holdover days. These days were nicknamed the "cleaning days" by the Rakata and were acknowledged as federal First Predorate holidays. These days were generally used by members of the Mure tribe population to wrap up unfinished personal business prior to the start of a new year.

Each season was further divided into eight months of exactly 33 days each. The names of these months were also named in accordance with their appearances in their respective seasons (i.e. "first month of the second season"). Each of these months was further subdivided into a set of three weeks composed of eleven days apiece. Unlike months or little years, weeks were not counted or named in relation to their respective month or season, but instead were named in accordance with their placement in the greater solar year.

Dating

Events in the Osraan calendar were formally dated in relation to the founding of the First Predorate, a successor state of the Infinite Empire ruled by the Rakata remnant on Mure. This epoch was dated in the Galactic Standard Calendar as occurring in 25,200 BBY, the year corresponding to the fall of the greater Infinite Empire.[1][2] However, as the Rakata remnant refused to acknowledge that the Infinite Empire fell in 25,200 BBY,[1][2] the Osraan calendar initially used the terms "Before the Formation of the First Predorate" and "After the Formation of the First Predorate" when listing dates.

However, following the revelations between 9066 BBY and 5399 BBY that Empire colonies in the Deep Core and Core Worlds had indeed fallen,[3][4] use of the terms "Before the Fall of the Infinite Empire" and "After the Fall of the Infinite Empire" generally replaced references to the First Predorate. The Osraan calendar epoch was subsequently abbreviated as "1:0 AFIE" wherein the first number referred to the specific season and the second the greater solar year. Events preceding the epoch were abbreviated accordingly as "BFIE."
