Ord Vos was a planet controlled by the Golden Empire in the far western galaxy, deep in the Unknown Regions. Rin Sakaros opted to give it the "Ord" designation in honor of the Ordnance/Regional Depots in the ancient Galactic Republic. It was named by and for the Chiss Centurion and Legate Vos'elk'eetash, who founded Ord Vos's garrison.

Geography

Much of Ord Vos was barren, windswept desert. A few broad swaths of higher ground, effectively enormously broad mesas, were arable, though they generally had vast savannahs and prairies and minimal forests. Rivers flowed through the mesas, ending in waterfalls down to the deserts, but few continued through the deserts; instead, most waterfalls fell to pools which drained directly down through the planet's crust. On the rare occasion when a waterfall pool overflowed into the surrounding desert, it caused a flowering desert phenomenon. This was the only natural way to produce the zedvyoyen's lily. Only a few species of plants and hardy animals survived in the deserts normally.

A diverse array of flora and fauna dwelled in the fertile mesas; most herbivores were shorter than the tall grass, although a few species had evolved the other way, growing so large as to be formidable foes for even the deadliest natural predators. One species of flowering grass produced an allergic reaction in Loreskasa; the Garjo who first colonized Ord Vos named it kruycheefeos, after a Garjo word for "little sneeze", when Aearbo Manitani reacted badly to it.

History

After the Empire secured its objective in the First Stratos Contention, slaughtering the mercenaries who had raided the Empire, Rin and Sorrik authorized Selkee to establish a foreward base to both defend against further incursions by the Lugubraa and serve as a launch point for retaliatory strikes and scout missions. Selkee selected a planet at which her battle group had stopped en route to the Stratos Distribution and built up a garrison there, led by her Garjo battle guard. The development of Ord Vos continued over the following years. As it was founded to be a military base rather than a normal colony, Ord Vos did not have a Consul or Tribune, but rather was under military command.
