The Onderon Royal Family was the ruling family of Onderon. Founded around 5000 BBY, it consisted of two main dynasties. The first was the House of Caris, which was overthrown in 4400 BBY by Freedon Nadd, the Dark Lord of the Sith. His House of Nadd went on to rule the planet for more than four thousand years. Despite its Sith origins, the Nadd Dynasty was widely supported by the Onderonian people and kept the world relatively stable. Its rule was briefly usurped by the House of Rash, the junior line of the Nadd Dynasty, the Rash family, during the Clone Wars.

The cadet branch of the House of Nadd, its lords was ambitious and looked for opportunities to overthrow the ruling family over the centuries following Freedon Nadd's death. Grand Duke Sanjay Rash made a deal with the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars to overthrow King Ramsis Dendup of the Nadd Dynasty, and briefly reigned as the King of Onderon. However, after the Separatists were removed from the planet by a Galactic Republic-assisted resistance group, Rash was killed his family was forced to go into exile.
