Odan Murk was a Weequay male Jedi Master of the New Jedi Order and a secret Sith apprentice who followed Varon Krul.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Hailing from the harsh world of Sriluur, Odan Murk was into the service of Raaxus the Hutt after his father traded him in exchange for his own freedom. Sent on several harrowing missions, Odan found himself fighting against his so-called "allies" more often than with them, as Raaxus' other minions would try to get rid of Odan in the hopes of entering their master's good graces.[1]
During his last mission in the Hutt's service, Odan was abandoned by his comrades on the desert world of Vanqor and forced to defend himself against a nest of gundarks. It was during this fight that Odan tapped into his dormant Force-sensitivity and used it to slaughter the gundarks. He then turned his sights to his former comrades and killed them all as well.[1]
Taking their ship, Odan set course for Nal Hutta, intent on killing Raaxus. However, the ship had taken damage from a gundark attack and he was forced to land on Takodana, where he stayed at the castle of pirate queen Maz Kanata. Kanata sensed the Force in Odan, as well as his conflict, and she immediately contacted Luke Skywalker, leading the Jedi Master to find the disturbed Weequay. Skywalker took Odan back with him to the Jedi Praxeum, where he was able to curb his dark emotions and train as a Jedi Knight. He got along well with Master Appa Nakil and it was the Thisspiasian's teachings that saw Odan quickly ascend to knighthood.[1]
Jedi and Sith[]
By the time of the Imperial Sith War, Odan had taken on an apprentice of his own in the form of Naia Sulvara. A peaceful Commenori woman, Naia served as foil to Odan's aggressive nature, keeping him in tune with the Force and preventing him from falling back to the dark side. Eventually Naia passed her trials and Odan was made a Jedi Master. By the time of the Glorian invasion, he was made a member of the Jedi High Council.
Unbeknownst to the rest of the Jedi Order however, Odan was secretly dabbling in the dark arts, studying the teachings of the Sith in the hopes of becoming more powerful. Towards the end of the Glorian War, he was contacted by his old master Appa Nakil, who had since joined the Sith Order of Darth Sedriss, and the Weequay agreed to become the Thisspiasian's student once more—this time as a Sith.[2]
After the Glorian War, Odan joined fellow apprentice Varon Krul in committing a coup against their masters, going against their teachings and attempting to drive the major powers of the galaxy towards creating a new order. For the most part Odan kept his actions to a minimum, lest he attract suspicion. However, when Nakil and fellow Sith Master Viron arrived on Ossus to warn the Jedi of Varon's plan, Odan abandoned all secrecy in favor of killing his master once and for all.
Bearing witness to Nakil's murder at Odan's hand, Jedi Knight Zarin Kal pursued Odan into a clearing. There the Kiffar gave into the dark side and slayed Odan, ending the traitor's life. However, his actions were in vain as Odan had already sent a call to Varon, bringing forth an army of Sith and Dark Jedi led by Kylo Ren and Xiana, leading to the destruction of the Ossus Jedi Temple.[2]
