This is my apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, who can do an amazing Jedi back flip.
—Qui-Gon Jinn to Padmé Amidala[src]

Obi-Wan Kenobi, also known as Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi, was a male Jedi Master during the Clone Wars. He was the apprentice of Qui-Gon Jinn, before the Clone Wars, and aided him in discovering Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine. He later became Skywalker’s master and trained him in the ways of the Jedi. Later, he fought Anakin, then known as Darth Vader, attempting to end the Sith. He defeated Vader, leaving him by the lava bank and returned to help Padmé Amidala.

Obi-Wan was present, along with Bail Organa, when Padmé gave birth. He agreed to take her son, Luke Skywalker, to Tatooine to be raised by his uncle and aunt, while Obi-Wan watched over him. When Luke was nineteen, Obi-Wan called for a Krayt Dragon to rescue Luke from being attacked by Tusken Raiders. He took Luke unto his home, where R2-D2 relayed a message from Princess Leia Organa. The message was a distress call from Leia, as she was about to be executed aboard the Death Star.

Obi-Wan persuaded to Luke travel with him to the Death Star to rescue Leia, giving him a lightsaber as part of persuasion. They journeyed to Mos Eisley, where they met Han Solo and Chewbacca, local smugglers, to take them to the battle station. Once on the station, Obi-Wan was struck down, accidentally turning his lightsaber on himself. He, however, continued to live on as a Force Ghost, guiding Luke down the path to a true Jedi. He appeared to Luke twice on Hoth, telling him to go to Dagobah to train with Master Yoda. He appeared to Luke several times after that, the last time being shortly after Luke completed his training.

Jedi back flip

When Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn first met Obi-Wan in the Jedi Temple, Obi-Wan still needed basic training as a Jedi. Qui-Gon decided to train Obi-Wan, in the ways of the Force. Qui-Gon taught him his three basic principles and continued to train him through experience. When the Culprits started to rise to power, Qui-Gon took Obi-Wan on more missions to hunt them down. Qui-Gon imparted knowledge about the Culprits onto Obi-Wan, in order to help him during the hunt, and held him responsible to continue his hunt if Qui-Gon was forced to leave.

During Obi-Wan’s ninth mission with Qui-Gon, in 33 BBY, the two of them ran into difficulty. The only way to enter the temple, where one of the Culprits was presumed to be hiding, was across a withdrawn drawbridge. The controls were located on the opposite side of the ravine. Qui-Gon informed Obi-Wan of a unique Force ability called, the amazing Jedi back flip. Qui-Gon demonstrated how to perform the maneuver and allowed Obi-Wan to practice.

When Obi-Wan had practiced it several times, they returned to the temple and allowed to Obi-Wan to perform the amazing Jedi back flip. Obi-Wan missed the other ledge, grabbing hold of a knot in the ravine wall; he leaped up onto the ledge. He activated the controls and lowered the bridge for Qui-Gon to cross it. Once on the other side, Obi-Wan inquired why Qui-Gon did not attempt the leap himself, and Qui-Gon replied that every Jedi has a special ability. Qui-Gon’s ability was to grow three times his normal height. He also commented on how, Obi-Wan was the first to be able to complete the back flip. They searched the temple, but the Culprit had already escaped.

Naboo crisis[]

Obi-Wan’s apprenticeship to Qui-Gon led him to be involved with the Naboo/Trade Federation peace treaty. They arrived at the Trade Federation Control ship, after learning that a Culprit may be onboard, nine months later, in 32 BBY, where they overheard the plan to invade Naboo. They sneaked aboard an MTT still under construction, and traveled to the planet to warn the Naboo[1].

They arrived on the planet, where the Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon stormed the royal palace and kidnapped Queen Padmé Amidala. After she refused to leave her people, Obi-Wan crept beside her and removed her head from her body and carried it along. Padmé complained about being handled like that, but no one could hear her. From there, they took her to Tatooine, to hide her from the Trade Federation and the peace treaty[1].

While on Tatooine, Obi-Wan stayed with the ship and the crew as Qui-Gon, Jar Jar Binks, and Padmé went into the city. He was there when a lonely droid appeared at the ship and claimed to belong to Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan questioned the droid extensively. Watto came along the ship to give them the twenty thousand republic dataries Qui-Gon had negotiated and cleared R2’s alibi[2]. Shortly afterward, Qui-Gon returned with a a young boy named Anakin Skywalker[3].

Battle for Naboo

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan fight Darth Maul on Naboo.

They returned to Naboo, where they charged the palace and returned Padmé to her body. Qui-Gon took Obi-Wan aside, battling the droid army as it stormed the palace. When the army withdrew to the plains, Darth Maul, a Sith and Qui-Gon’s childhood friend, confronted them. However, during the confrontation, Obi-Wan was separated from Qui-Gon and watched from a distance as the two of them dueled. When he finally was able to rejoin him, Darth Maul attemped to throw Qui-Gon off the ledge, but missed, throwing Obi-Wan instead[3].

Obi-Wan was catapulted over the chasm and landed on the other side. He watched as Qui-Gon resisted Darth Maul’s Force Push, sending him falling into the chasm. He used his amazing Jedi back flip to jump the chasm once again, and landed just short. Obi-Wan leaped onto the platform, accidentally stabbing Qui-Gon in the back. His blade merely grazed the flesh next to Qui-Gon’s ribs, not causing any severe damage. They walked away from the chasm, with Obi-Wan’s blade still in Qui-Gon, to rejoin the others[3]. Qui-Gon passed Obi-Wan to become a Jedi Knight, and Obi-Wan took Anakin Skywalker as his apprentice[4].

Clone Wars[]

Rumors of war[]

I have been told about a Clone Army that was created on the request of Sifo-Dyas with the backing of the Jedi Council for the use of the Republic in a Clone War coming up…

Interrogating Zam

Obi-Wan and Anakin interrogating Zam about the assassination attempt

Ten years after the Naboo Crisis, in 22 BBY, Obi-Wan and Anakin were still on Naboo, training Anakin to become a Jedi Knight. Around the same time, a debate in the Senate about the Frank Creation Act proceeded, and Padmé scheduled a trip to Coruscant to assure that the Act would pass. Obi-Wan and Anakin were assigned to see her safely to Coruscant. They arrived at the landing platform just after her ship had blown up[4].

Anakin insisted Obi-Wan and he pursue the attacker; however, Obi-Wan disagreed as it was not their assignment. Anakin pointed out that Padmé was already in danger. Upon hearing that, Obi-Wan felt more comfortable going after the attacker. They located a speeder nearby and chased down a Clawdite named Zam Wessel, who had been hired to assassinate Padmé. They found Zam, after she crashed her speeder, and interrogated her before she faked her death. From the questioning, they discovered a bounty hunter named Jango Fett hired her for the assassination[4]. Later that day, Obi-Wan presented the issue to the Jedi Council and they agreed to let him track down Jango Fett and bring him back to the council[5].

Pursuing Jango Fett[]

Obi-Wan: “He wouldn’t happen to have a son and Slave I?
―Lama Su introducing Obi-Wan to Jango Fett[src]

Obi-Wan arrived on Kamino, and was greeted by two Kaminoans on the platform his ship was docked on. They introduced him to the planet and agreed to take him to Lama Su, their Prime Minister. When he met Lama Su, he discovered that there had been a request for a Clone Army created on behalf of the Jedi Council by Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas. He inquired more about this Clone Army and was granted permission to meet them[6].

Observing the Clones

Obi-Wan observing the Clone Army with Lama Su

Upon meeting the Army, he discovered two truths about them. The first was that they were emotionally delicate soldiers and were bound in a way that the Kaminoans could not figure out. The second was that they always spoke in unison, referring back to the previous connection each soldier had with the next. It was at that point, Obi-Wan was informed of their template, Frank the Clone Trooper, and insisted on meeting him. Lama Su agreed to take Obi-Wan to meet him[6].

Along the way, Obi-Wan received word that he had visitors on Platform 9, where his fighter was located. He journeyed to meet them and discovered the Jedi Council had gathered on Kamino to talk with Obi-Wan. He informed them what he had learned and they insisted on him capturing Jango Fett to question him. Obi-Wan concurred and went after Jango, forgetting about Frank[7].

When he finally arrived at Jango’s place, Obi-Wan interviewed him only to discover that he and his son, Boba Fett, were leaving to travel to Geonosis. Obi-Wan followed Fett to his ship and had Jango place a tracking beacon on his ship before he left. Obi-Wan then returned to his ship, after a brief encounter with the Kaminoans, and followed Jango to Geonosis[7]. His coordinates were off, and he ended up traveling to Tatooine[8].

Sparking the Clone Wars[]

Dooku: “You’re right. It’s a secret that can’t be known for another couple of episodes. I’m sorry I let it slip
Poggle: “That’s alright.
Obi-Wan: “I have to tell the council!
— Obi-Wan overhearing Dooku and Poggle the Lesser discuss the Death Star[src]

While on Tatooine, Obi-Wan ran into Anakin and Padmé on their way back from the Lars homestead and decided to journey with them to Geonosis[8]. They arrived on the planet and Obi-Wan flew ahead to a different ledge, to gain access to the droid factory. As he did, he accidentally came across Dooku and Poggle the Lesser discussing the plans to a secret weapon the Confederacy was developing, the Death Star. He returned to his ship to inform the council of what he learned[9].

Obi spying

As he attempted to contact them, he discovered his R4 unit was not powerful enough to broadcast back to the Coruscant and had to relay it through Anakin’s transmitter. Dooku, who captured Anakin, answered. He put Anakin through and Anakin was able to relay the message back to Coruscant, just as the council arrived on Geonosis. Obi-Wan participated in the brief council meeting, informing them that Dooku planned to attack the Republic, before he, too, was captured by Dooku[10].

He met up with Anakin and Padmé in the arena, where they were sentenced to be executed by a mutated nerf. The nerf attacked, knocking down the pillars the Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé were chained to, freeing them and immobilizing the nerf. The Clone Army arrived shortly after and evacuated them as the droid army approached. They boarded an LAAT/i and traveled to confront Dooku[11].

They met up with him in a hangar where the rest of the SIC leaders were located. The leaders fled leaving Dooku there. Obi-Wan and Anakin confronted Dooku and were defeated. Dooku had anticipated their attacks and leaped into the air, causing Anakin and Obi-Wan to slam into each other. As Dooku landed, he cut off Anakin’s right arm. Dooku fled, after being confronted by Yoda, leaving Obi-Wan and Anakin lying on the ground. Obi-Wan sat up and noticed what had happened to Anakin’s arm. Padmé ran in to help them up and together they left the hangar[12]. They returned to Naboo, where Anakin and Padmé’s held their wedding[13].

Ending the conflict[]

Battle above Naboo[]

Confront Dooku

Anakin and Obi-Wan confront Dooku.

Shortly after Anakin’s honeymoon, Obi-Wan returned to the council and proposed a plan to end the escalating war. He proposed that they set Palpatine up to be captured, and attempt to rescue him, defeating the SIC leaders in the process above Coruscant. His plan was denied; however, as it seemed too great a risk if they couldn’t reach Palpatine in time. In 19 BBY, three years later, the Jedi Council returned to Obi-Wan, approving his plan, as Palpatine had been kidnapped.

Obi-Wan asked Anakin, now a Jedi Knight, to assist him in the raid. Obi-Wan, though, suddenly had to go to the bathroom, giving the SIC enough time to escape Coruscant. Obi-Wan then proposed that they cut them off at Naboo. He took a fleet with him to Naboo and managed to intercept the SIC as they entered the system. Obi-Wan and Anakin fought their way into General Grievous’ flagship, the Invisible Hand, where they confronted Dooku[14].

However, Obi-Wan tried to conduct his amazing Jedi back flip to attack Dooku, but knocked himself out when he hit the railing[15]. When Obi-Wan came to, he, Anakin, and Palpatine were racing to the hangar bay to escape the vessel, but were captured. They were sent to the bridge, where General Grievous waited to execute them for trespassing. Obi-Wan and Anakin managed to defeat General Grievous and forced him to flee[16].

CouncilMeeting

Council Meeting on Naboo.

They crash landed the capital ship on Naboo and Obi-Wan immediately went to inform the council, as Anakin took Palpatine to meet the senators[17]. When Obi-Wan arrived at the council room, it was just he and Master Yoda. Together they discussed allowing Anakin onto the Jedi Council and concluded Anakin was ready. When Master Windu arrived, they brought up the idea again, and unanimously agreed to allow him to be part of the council; however, Anakin was to remain a Jedi Knight[18].

They presented Anakin with the promotion. Anakin protested remaining a Jedi Knight, and they allowed him the rank of Jedi Master. Shortly after the meeting, they gathered together once more to determine whether to aid the Wookiees on Kashyyyk. The council agreed to send Master Yoda, due to good relations with the Wookiees. They dismissed the council and went their separate ways[18]. The next day, Master Windu returned with news of the location of General Grievous, and the council agreed to send Obi-Wan in to defeat the general on Utapau[19].

Order 66[]
Now, you are doomed

Obi-Wan immediately took off for Utapau, where he searched for Grievous. Unknowingly, Obi-Wan landed his transport on the wrong side of the canyon, and he found himself among the Separatist ranks. He managed to locate Grievous and confronted him, while the Clone Army distracted the SIC droids[20].

Shortly after the duel started, General Grievous had an asthma attack and fell unconscious. Obi-Wan, bewildered, called upon the council of one of Grievous’ MagnaGuards to explain what had happened. When he found out, he rushed back to inform Commander Cody of the news. As Obi-Wan arrived back on the Clone’s side, he raced over to Commander Cody just as he received word that the droids were in full retreat[20].

At the same time, Cody received a call from his wife, telling him that she received word from Darth Sidious who issued Order 66. Cody turned around and faced Obi-Wan. He apologized for his actions and opened fire on Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan blocked the bolt and into a nearby Clone troopers. He fled the area and ran over to Separatists side of the canyon. He managed to steal General Grievous’ fighter, while Clone troopers were pursuing him, and took off[20]. Obi-Wan activated the fighter’s autopilot sequence, which took him to Mustafar, where apparently the SIC leaders had planned to meet Grievous after his presumed victory on Utapau[21].

Fighting an old friend[]

Anakin: “Oh, yeah. I joined up with Sidious...but it's only temporary
Obi-Wan: “Oh, well good for you. Your first steps as a Master, and look at you now! A Sith! Congratulations!
―Anakin informing Obi-Wan that he's a Sith.[src]

As Obi-Wan arrived on the Mustafar, he feared being captured by the Separatist leaders and hid behind some barrels nearby. When no one arrived he assumed the area was clear. Before he was able to come out, he spotted Anakin walk up and jumped out to surprise him[21].

Obi-Anakin duel

Obi-Wan and Anakin duel on Mustafar

They caught up with each other, learning that Anakin had become Darth Vader, and both agreed to fight each other, there on Mustafar, to practice their skills. Obi-Wan led Anakin out onto the lava river, where he accidentally cut off Anakin’s hair and left arm. Obi-Wan then leaped to clear the river, and Anakin followed. Obi-Wan failed to move his lightsaber, which caused Anakin to be cut in half when he landed on it. Obi-Wan and Anakin bickered over whose fault it was, until they finally agreed it was both of theirs and decided to put Anakin back together[21].

Obi-Wan rushed off to find Padmé, who was giving birth. Senator Bail Organa was also there to guide Padmé through the birthing process. Obi-Wan had a mental break down as he struggled to process the events occurring and proved to be of little help to Padmé and Senator Organa. Obi-Wan was able to calm down after Padmé gave birth to twins. He concluded that they leave at once, to hide the newborns from Palpatine. Obi-Wan, still disoriented, could only focus on one task at a time, which at that moment was Padmé’s condition, and completely forgot about Anakin[22].

When they left, Obi-Wan was assigned with the task of looking over the boy, Luke. He took Luke back to Tatooine, where his uncle and aunt had the homestead. There was no one there at the time of his arrival, so Obi-Wan just left Luke at the doorstep. This was what predominantly triggered Luke’s longing for independence and ultimately to join the Rebellion. It was also Obi-Wan’s last act of deliberate, conscious thought towards the well-being of the boy as being away from him caused Obi-Wan to forget about Luke[22].

Hiding in the Dune Sea[]

That was the mating call of a Krayt Dragon, a very ferocious creature to be sure.
—Obi-Wan rescuing Luke from Tusken Raiders[src]

Obi-Wan spent nineteen years hiding in the Dune Sea, from 19 BBY to 0 ABY. Being in isolation for that length of time on Tatooine eventually drove Obi-Wan insane, which prompted him to study the actions of the local Tusken Raiders, as well as the wild life. He learned the mating call of the Krayt Dragon and used it often if he found himself trapped by hunters. While learning this call, he spent five years living among the Krayt Dragons.

He managed to befriend a female Krayt Dragon, which he kept as a pet. When the dragon became pregnant, he assisted in the birthing process, after his experience with Padmé. The female dragon was lost during transportation to his house from the local doctors office. He went out looking for it, calling for it when came upon Luke, who was looking for R2 at the time[23].

His final act as a hermit was to construct Luke’s future lightsaber, which he hoped to give Luke when he was old enough. The lightsaber looked identical to Anakin’s, since Anakin’s was lost on Mustafar after rolling into the lava stream. He kept the lightsaber in a box along with his other artifacts from the Clone Wars [23].

With the Rebellion[]

Obi-Wan Luke

Obi-Wan gives Luke his first lightsaber

While out looking for his pet Krayt Dragon, in 0 ABY, who had been lost during transportation from the doctor’s office to his house, Obi-Wan stumbled upon R2-D2, who looking for him. R2 explained to Obi-Wan that Luke had journeyed up the hill looking for Tusken Raiders; however, Obi-Wan could not remember Luke. After R2 managed to explain what was going on, Obi-Wan climbed the hill to find Luke and C-3PO spying on the Tusken camp below[24].

Again, forgetting who they were, Obi-Wan called out for his Krayt Dragon, and just missed her as she passed by behind him. Realizing where they were, Obi-Wan shouted out the mating call of the Krayt Dragon, which is in a pitch only Krayt Dragons can hear, and ran over to Luke and C-3PO. Obi-Wan then took them to his homestead in the Dune Sea[24].

While at his homestead, Obi-Wan introduced himself to Luke, accidentally confusing Luke with his twin sister Leia. Luke, however, had no recollection of him, since the last time they saw each other was nineteen year prior. Obi-Wan presented Luke with his lightsaber, while R2 relayed a message from Luke’s sister, Leia[25].

The message contained a plea for help as Leia was to be executed aboard the Death Star two hours from when the message was sent. Obi-Wan insisted that Luke travel with him to Mos Eisley[25]. On their way to the city, they stopped by the homestead to discover the blue milk stored underneath it had spontaneously combusted, burning nearly all of Luke’s possessions[26]. From there, since Luke had nothing left, they traveled to Mos Eisley, where Obi-Wan ended up getting drunk[27].

Obi-Vader duel

Obi-Wan and Darth Vader duel onboard the Death Star

While at the cantina, Obi-Wan and Luke met Han Solo and Chewbacca, two local smugglers, who were willing to take them to Alderaan, where the Death Star was presumed to be located[27]. Together, they left the planet on board the Millennium Falcon[28]. They arrived at the Death Star shortly after that, getting caught in its tractor beam and pulled into the station[29].

While on board the Death Star, Obi-Wan volunteered to disable the tractor beam and managed to accomplish that[30]. He, however, got distracted getting back to the freighter and assisted four stormtroopers in pursuing Luke and Han, who had locked themselves inside the detention cell, by cutting open the door[31]. He continued on his way and reached the Millennium Falcon but was confronted by Darth Vader, his former apprentice Anakin Skywalker. During the duel, Obi-Wan’s lightsaber deactivated, leaving Obi-Wan confused. He examined the lightsaber, only to have it reactivate in his face, turning him into a Force Ghost[32]. Unable to physically assist Luke and the others, Obi-Wan reached out with the Force and convinced Luke to leave immediately[31]. There, on the Death Star, Obi-Wan became one with the Force.

As a Force Ghost[]

Obi-Wan (Force Ghost)

Obi-Wan returned several times as a Force Ghost to help Luke along his journey. Three years after his transformation, Obi-Wan appeared to Luke in the frozen desert of Hoth, where he mistakenly told Luke to visit Yoda on Xagobah [33]. He had misread the post-it note Yoda gave him, which stated he was to have Luke travel to Dagobah instead. He appeared to him again on Hoth, shortly before Luke was to leave for Xagobah, to correct his mistake[34].

He later appeared to him again on Dagobah as Luke was in midst his training, telling him to travel to Bespin to save his friends and fight Darth Vader. He, however, had caught a cold while on Hoth in the snowstorm, and sounded different to Luke[35]. His last appearance before Luke was again on Bespin, shortly after Yoda dubbed Luke a Jedi Knight, where he claimed to be in Luke’s brain manipulating his thoughts[36]. Obi-Wan was not seen again after that.

Personality and traits[]

Ben Kenobi

Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi from Season 2 of The Fanon Menace

Obi-Wan had the potential for being a wise, intelligent Jedi Knight; however, he was given the wrong guidance as an apprentice. While training under Yoda, Obi-Wan learned to be curious and investigate subjects he did not understand, as well as common sense and discernment. Although, he applied this concept when training under Qui-Gon and received more information than he could handle[3]. This led to his slow decline in intelligence, as he grew older. The more experience he gained, the more confusing common circumstances became. His nineteen years in isolation, on Tatooine, took it to the extreme[23].

Obi-Wan was also known to be considerate, being a part of his training. This was present when he confronted Anakin on Mustafar. After learning that he had joined the Sith, Anakin quickly explained that it was merely temporary[21]. Obi-Wan was willing to accept what Anakin said was true and continued to consider him a companion. This was shown again aboard the Death Star as Darth Vader explained what happened to the Jedi[32].

Obi-Wan was also a devoted friend, especially of Anakin Skywalker. Their relationship was often described as a brotherhood. Even when there was tension in the relationship, like on Mustafar when Obi-Wan cut Anakin in half, their friendship still remained and they were able to reconcile their differences[21]. The strength of their friendship was shown again on the Death Star where the two, after nineteen years of separation, were still able to joke around[32].

Powers and abilities[]

When Obi-Wan Kenobi attempted the amazing Jedi back flip on his ninth mission, that was the first time anyone had accomplished the feat, and he would continue on to be the only being ever to master the flip. This was is one special Force power, as each Jedi only had one. He also managed to use the simple Force Push, Force Jump, Force Pull, and Force Speed powers that were basic for every Jedi to become a Knight.

On top of his powers, Obi-Wan carried another weapon, which happened to be his stupidity. As his age increased, his intelligence decreased. He became less aware of his surroundings as time went on and eventually went insane during his years of isolation in the Dune Sea. This, however, often helped more then it hindered. Because of his obliviousness, the Jedi Knights were not able to capture Grievous above Coruscant, and instead had to catch him over Naboo. This eventually led to Anakin finishing off the rescue mission and becoming a Jedi Master.

Obi-Wan also carried the ability to speak the ancient Chinese secret dialect Master Yoda discovered during Council Meetings. However, this ability was learned, he soon became a master at it and was able to transit between the two dialects instantaneously, unlike his former Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who once spoke to him in the dialect by mistake when Obi-Wan was only an apprentice.

Behind the scenes[]

The creators of The Fanon Menace gave Obi-Wan the ability to do the amazing Jedi back flip while messing around with action figures in the summer of 2007. This was done strictly to be something randomly interjected in a skit, which eventually developed into the present show. Once the show was approved, the creators decided to only include it when Obi-Wan’s full name was mentioned. They also agreed to have “Ben” do it in Season 2 to give homage to Season 1.

Obi-Wan’s lack of intelligence was an accidental character development. It occurred in between writing Season 1: Part I and II, in order to allow certain events to happen. When reflecting on this change, the creators decided to keep it and have his stupidity enhance, as he grew older, ultimately leading to his character in Season 2.

The voice of Obi-Wan changed through Season 1; Joshua McGraw played his voice in Part I, where Seth Hoover played his voice in Part II and III. Joshua McGraw later returned as Obi-Wan in Season 2 as his voice changed to reflect his age. This voice was introduced in The Fanon Menace: A Day in the Life of a Stormtrooper, where Obi-Wan helped the four stormtroopers and encouraged Luke to leave. Obi-Wan’s character was also one of four characters in the series to not have a stunt double portray him the entire time.

Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi was the first major character in The Fanon Menace to involve special animation to create the Force Ghost appearance, the only other character being Commander Cody when Sidious issues Order 66. Cutting Obi-Wan out of the picture, inverting the colors, and pasting him back in the picture created this effect. Since the director did not own Adobe Photoshop at the time, he had to use Microsoft paint, which took longer to do. To create the translucent effect, the director created two timelines, one with Obi-Wan’s character in it and the other without him. He layered the two timelines and synchronized them to play the same speed, and made the top layer, the one with Obi-Wan, transparent.
