Obi-Wan Kenobi was a great Jedi Master, Padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn and Master of Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan defeated Darth Maul on Naboo after Maul fatally wounded Qui-Gon. He then trained Anakin Skywalker to become a Jedi becoming like a father and later a brother to Skywalker. During the Clone Wars Obi-Wan was nicknamed "The Negotiator" because of his great negotiation skills.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Youngling[]

Obi-Wan Kenobi was born thirty-five years before the Clone Wars, the first son of a moderately wealthy family, and was taken to Coruscant to begin his Jedi training shortly thereafter. His homeworld was Stewjon, and Obi-Wan had vague, pleasant memories of playing with his brother, Owen, on the green, grassy planet.

As a youngling, Obi-Wan trained under Yoda alongside other Jedi younglings of his age; later he would be placed into a clan under the tutelage of Master Docent Vant. Bant Eerin, Garen Muln and Quinlan Vos became Kenobi's lifelong friends, and he eventually fell in love with fellow Padawan, Siri Tachi. Others would become rivals, and even enemies, such as Bruck Chun and Aalto. His lightsaber instructor was Cin Drallig.

YoungObiWan

Obi-Wan before becoming Qui-Gon Jinn's Padawan.

As a youngling, Obi-Wan was fascinated by machines, building models of ships and even dreaming of becoming a pilot. Ironically, as he grew older, Kenobi came to despise flying. Despite becoming an excellent pilot, he continued to claim that "flying is for droids." His ability to repair machinery and reprogram computers would serve him well in the future but Obi-Wan became arrogant and was often impatient. Under the careful guidance of Yoda, however, Obi-Wan became more humble and reserved.

Despite being a very talented student, Obi-Wan was not selected as a Jedi Padawan until it was almost too late. This was because Master Yoda had foreseen that Obi-Wan would become Qui-Gon Jinn's Padawan, even though Qui-Gon hadn't intended to take another Padawan after the betrayal of one of his other students, Xanatos. Yoda believed that if he assigned Obi-Wan to another Master, Qui-Gon would never take another Padawan.

Becoming Qui-Gon's apprentice[]

By the time Obi-Wan reached the age of sixteen, it seemed that his chances of becoming a Jedi Knight had all passed him by; Younglings who weren't selected to be Padawans by the age of seventeen would be shifted into one of the divisions of the Jedi Service Corps. This was actually a plan by Yoda who had foreseen that Obi-Wan was destined to become Qui-Gon Jinn's Padawan and if he assigned him to another Master, Qui-Gon would never take another Padawan.

One day, Qui-Gon visited the Jedi Temple to watch the matches. Obi-Wan dueled one of his competitors, Bruck Chun, to draw the attention of the maverick Jedi Knight. Obi-Wan fought valiantly to the point of exhaustion. The final offensive against Bruck was carried out so fiercely that Qui-Gon thought Kenobi too dangerous and declined training the boy.

Obi-Wan was sent to the mining colony of Bandomeer to work as a plowman for the AgriCorps. Strangely enough, Qui-Gon happened to be sent on a mission to the same place. The youngling and the Jedi Knight had to work together if they wanted to survive the mission, which was a trap set for Qui-Gon by his former Padawan, Xanatos. Obi-Wan showed Qui-Gon that he was worthy to be taken as a Padawan learner en route, when they were attacked by members of Xanatos' criminal organization, the Offworld Corporation. After putting an end to the tense situation, the two arrived on Bandomeer, where Qui-Gon received a letter signed by Xanatos. It turned out that Bandomeer was not in need of Jedi assistance; it had all been organized by Xanatos, who was revealed to be the leader of Offworld, a company whose ruthless business practices and mining operations terrorized all of the citizens on the planet.

Qui-Gon sent Obi-Wan off to his AgriCorps duties while he planned to meet with Xanatos, not as old adversaries, but as ambassadors, working to find an agreement between Off world and Bandomeer. Xanatos, however, planned all along to sabotage their meeting and kill Qui-Gon. With the help of Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon once more attempted to end Xanatos' acts of terror. Qui-Gon dueled with his former apprentice, and though they ended Offworld's business on Bandomeer, Xanatos was able to escape. During their altercation with Xanatos, Qui-Gon discovered Obi-Wan's true potential, and took him as his new Padawan learner. Their relationship got off to a bad start, as the pair's personalities were constantly at odds; Qui-Gon was headstrong, while Obi-Wan was more practical. As time went on, however, their opposing natures blended them into an effective duo.

Qui-Gon's Padawan[]

Obi-Wan Qui-Gon

During his time with Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan temporarily left the Jedi Order. Caught up in the civil war on Melida/Daan, Obi-Wan elected to stay and help the children, otherwise known as the Young, who were fighting against their tradition-obsessed elders. The planet's residents had been fighting a pointless war for generations, and had actually forgotten what had started the feud. Obi-Wan befriended a boy within the Young called Nield, and possibly developed an attraction for another of the Young named Cerasi. Soon after Obi-Wan's decision to stay, Cerasi was mortally wounded and died in Obi-Wan's arms. For a time, Obi-Wan remained on the planet to continue helping the war effort, but soon enough felt that his place was with the Jedi and was taken back by Qui-Gon.

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan eventually caught up with Xanatos when the Dark Jedi was planning an attack on Master Yoda. Fortunately the two were able to find and engage him before his plans went into effect. It would be while foiling Xanatos that Obi-Wan was forced to fight his long time rival, Bruck Chun. Bruck had kidnapped Obi-Wan's friend Bant Eerin while working with Xanatos, and Obi-Wan engaged the misguided youth in a lightsaber duel. Obi-Wan won the duel when Bruck fell off a ledge and died, though Kenobi would carry the guilt for many years. After he escaped, Xanatos returned to his homeworld of Telos. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon went after him.

On Telos, however, they were not welcomed with open arms. They were astonished to find out that Xanatos wielded significant financial and political power there. He was considered a hero to his people. What the people of the planet did not know is that while Xanatos and the government had been distracting them with a form of gambling called Katharsis, Offworld had been pillaging the planet's resources. Not a nice thing considering the importance of the people's place in their environment. The two Jedi were also framed and wanted for a crime they did not commit. Xanatos captured them, but the two Jedi managed to escape. Xanatos committed suicide by diving into a pool of acid after Qui-Gon stopped his plans.

It was during this time that Obi-Wan first spoke to Siri Tachi, whom he had met during lightsaber training at the Temple. They started off on rocky terms, as she was angry at him for leaving the Order, but would later forge a friendship that would last the rest of their lives, and even develop into something more.

Sixteen years before the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Siri and Adi Gallia were again sent on a mission to save a boy, Talesan Fry, from bounty hunters on the planet Cirrus. After crashing on the planet Quadrant Seven, the masters sent the Padawans to hide in the nearby caves in order to protect Fry. During the time they spent in the caves, Tachi and Kenobi's bickering briefly allowed them to express their feelings for each other, but they decided to put their focus on the mission. At one point in the mission, the Padawans and Fry were on board a ship rigged to blow up if it exited hyperspace. It was during this time of potential death that Tachi and Kenobi truly recognized their feelings and after finding a way to land the ship safely, they confirmed that they were in love. They agreed to discuss their situation more in depth after the mission was over. After putting Fry into safe hands (following the death of his parents at the hands of the bounty hunter Magus), the two agreed to abandon their love, after a talk with Jinn and Yoda about the consequences of Jinn's love for the late Jedi Master Tahl. Tachi and Kenobi decided not to speak of their love again. However, this decision led to the gradual drifting of their friendship

Obi-Wan fought alongside his master in the Stark Hyperspace War and it was during the Fourth Battle of Qotile when Obi-Wan's enduring friendship with fellow Padawan Quinlan Vos truly began. Obi-Wan would later recall fondly a training mission the two Padawans undertook on Ragoon VI and missions the both of them would undertake with Dexter Jettster on the Outer Rim.

When Obi-Wan was eighteen years old, he and Qui-Gon traveled to a planet once devastated by turmoil and currently under a temporary truce. The rulers of each planet temporarily exchanged children when they reached the age of seven and raised them in an effort to get the future leaders to appreciate each other. The plan backfired after hundreds of years of success, however, when the heir of Rutan decided he wanted to remain on Senali, forsaking his royal title and home planet. This infuriated his father, King Frane, who believed his son had been brainwashed by the Senali, and he threatened to declare war on Senali. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon arrived to mediate the dispute, and after meeting with King Frane, they went to the ocean world of Senali and attempted to convince Leed to return to Rutan, thus avoiding war.

During his training, Obi-Wan and a Jedi Strike team were sent to Corellia to stop a group of Rodian terrorists from destroying a Spaceport outside of Coronet City.

Prior to the Battle of Naboo, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon participated in the colonization of Alaris Prime, where they battled the Trade Federation for control of the moon. During this time, Chewbacca had his first recorded encounter with Jedi, as Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi had been assigned by the Galactic Republic to end the conflict on Alaris Prime. Under Jinn's tutelage, Chewbacca was able to successfully lead the colony to military and economic success.

Kenobi would later assist his master in missions to Yinchorr and Dorvalla. After the Incident at Dorvalla, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon were also involved in the attempt to mediate relations between the Trade Federation and the Nebula Front, an attempt that would sadly fail with the disaster at the Eriadu Trade Summit.

Obi-Wan would later investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow Padawan, Darsha Assant. He found a few tantalizing clues to her fate, but galactic events caught up with Kenobi before he could track down the missing Alderaanian. Shortly after being given the assignment, he and Qui-Gon were dispatched by Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum to resolve the Blockade of Naboo.

Ambassadors[]

Ten years before the Clone Wars Kenobi and Qui-Gon headed for Naboo onboard the Radiant VII, on a mission to resolve a trade dispute. However, shortly after arriving on the Trade Federation ship Saak'ak, the Jedi were betrayed by Nute Gunray and the Federation. Acting on the orders of the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious, Gunray attempted to assassinate the two Jedi by venting dioxis gas into the conference room in which they waited, and then dispatching a small group of battle droids. The Jedi overcame both and nearly reached the bridge of the Saak'ak before being delayed by droidekas. Qui-Gon opted to escape to Naboo's surface and warn them of the impending invasion.

The pair then encountered a native of the planet, the Gungan Jar Jar Binks, who took the Jedi to meet with the Gungan inhabitants of Otoh Gunga. Although Obi-Wan was initially hesitant, he finally agreed with Qui-Gon, and they dove down to Otoh Gunga with Jar Jar. The Gungans dismissed the Jedi and sent them by Tribubble bongo to the capital city of Theed, with Jar Jar serving as their navigator.

When they arrived at Theed, the Jedi managed to rescue the Queen and her entourage. Their attempt to escape the Federation's clutches led them to the isolated Outer Rim world of Tatooine.

Meeting Anakin Skywalker[]

Qui-Gon: “Anakin Skywalker, meet Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Anakin: “Hi. You're a Jedi too? Pleased to meet you.
―Qui-Gon introduces Obi-Wan to Anakin.

On Tatooine, Qui-Gon stumbled upon Anakin Skywalker, a young boy who showed tremendous Force potential and an unprecedented midi-chlorian count. Jinn decided that the boy should be trained, and while Kenobi was also amazed by Anakin's strong Force potential, he initially disagreed with his master's decision; he believed, as the Jedi Council would later concur, that the boy was already too old and had acquired too many emotional attachments to become a Jedi.

In response to the Council's refusal to allow the boy to be trained, Jinn declared that he himself would take Anakin as his Padawan learner. The Jedi Code forbade a master to have two apprentices, but according to Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan was ready to face the trials of a Jedi. Though Kenobi would continue to be an apprentice until after Qui-Gon's death, he showed eagerness to face the trials and expressed thanks to his master for the praise given him before the Council.

The Battle of Naboo and aftermath[]

During the ensuing Battle of Naboo, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan fought to protect the Queen until they were confronted by Darth Maul, Sith Lord and apprentice to Darth Sidious. Maul skillfully fought both the Jedi at once with his double-bladed lightsaber, and eventually managed to separate the two. Jinn, then fighting alone, did his best to fend off the Sith until Kenobi could catch up with them, but the elderly Jedi had been exhausted by the lengthy duel and was mortally wounded when Maul slammed his lightsaber hilt onto his chin, and then whirled and stabbed Qui-Gon in the stomach.

KenobivsMaul

Obi-Wan duels Darth Maul after Maul stabs Qui-Gon.

Kenobi was enraged at the death of his master and he quickly charged at Maul. After an intense duel, Obi-Wan managed to cut Maul's lightsaber in two. However, Maul continued to fight the Padawan, and Force-pushed Obi-Wan into an energy pit. Kenobi managed to survive by grabbing onto an input nozzle on the pit wall at the last moment, but Maul kicked the Padawan's lightsaber down the long shaft and then proceeded to slash the rim of the pit, showering sparks upon Obi-Wan in an attempt to make him lose his grip. Kenobi managed to calm himself, reaching into the Force. Then, using the Force, he pulled himself up hard, leaping into the air and flipping above Maul, calling his fallen master's lightsaber to his hand as he did so. Landing in front of Maul, Obi-Wan slashed him through the waist, causing the Sith Lord to flinch in shock and pain as he was cut in two.

Qui-Gon's dying request to his apprentice was to train Anakin. Obi-Wan felt that he could not refuse, and took it upon himself to train the boy. The Jedi Council was similarly moved by the plea, and fatefully reversed its decision, albeit still with doubts and misgivings. The Council had been impressed that Kenobi bested a Sith, an enemy that had not surfaced in a millennium. Obi-Wan was made a full Jedi Knight, with his duel with Darth Maul serving as his Jedi Trials. Anakin was formally placed under the tutelage of Kenobi as his Padawan.

Training Anakin[]

Anakin training

Obi-Wan and Chancellor Palpatine watch Anakin train with two lightsabers.

About five years into Anakin's training, master and apprentice were sent on their first mission together. They were ordered to investigate the cult leader, Kad Chun, younger brother of Bruck Chun. Kad still blamed Obi-Wan for his brother's death, and it was only after Obi-Wan and Anakin uncovered an insidious plot against Kad that he forgave Obi-Wan.

A Jedi mission to Ragoon-6 saw Obi-Wan and Anakin tangled up with a mysterious man, who was believed to be the son of Xanatos. Further research on him revealed that he was from Nierport VII, collected Sith artifacts, and was extremely wealthy for no apparent reason. After a podracing escapade, further information was uncovered regarding the man, who was trying to take over the marketing of bacta through a mining venture. Obi-Wan, along with Anakin, found out that the man was trying to impress a Sith Lord, and planning to kill the youth. Master and apprentice were able to escape, stopping Omega's mining of titanite in the process.

Mission to Zonama Sekot[]

The next mission they were assigned took them to the living planet of Zonama Sekot in an attempt to find a Jedi Knight, Vergere, who had recently vanished during a mission there. Unbeknownst to them, Wilhuff Tarkin and Raith Sienar had followed them to exploit Zonama Sekot's ability to quickly fuse organic and manufactured technology into starfighters. On the planet, the colonists sold "seed-partners," which bonded with their hosts and allowed the planet to customize a starfighter for the individual. Anakin attracted many more seed-partners than anyone previously had, and he named his new ship the Jabitha. When Tarkin and Sienar arrived, the planet revealed its sentient consciousness to the Jedi, explaining that Vergere had left with the mysterious "Far Outsiders" in order to protect Zonama Sekot. Anakin and Obi-Wan could not rescue her, but they could stop Tarkin's attack.

Later Anakin was captured and brought before Tarkin, but Obi-Wan destroyed Tarkin's flagship, and Zonama Sekot activated its planetary hyperdrive, vanishing for the unknown regions. Sienar and Tarkin returned to the Republic, but the Jabitha died, due to her separation from both Skywalker and her home planet. Obi-Wan and Anakin then returned to Coruscant.

Outbound Flight[]

When Anakin was fifteen Master Mace Windu sent Kenobi and Skywalker on a secret mission to Barlok to monitor the overbearing Jedi Master, Jorus C'baoth, and his Padawan, Lorana Jinzler. Unbeknownst to them, Kinman Doriana, on behalf of Darth Sidious, had planned the negotiations to work splendidly in Jorus's favor, gaining him enough prestige to go ahead with his Outbound Flight Project. Obi-Wan and Anakin did rescue Jinzler after she was captured by malcontents, but their opponents were able to acquire the components they needed to create a missile and attack the negotiations. Obi-Wan tried to stop the missile, but was unsuccessful. However, C'baoth used the Force to crush the missile and that gave him the impetus he needed to quickly conclude the negotiations, as well as receive support for Outbound Flight. Following the go-ahead for Outbound Flight for the Senate, Master Windu tasked Obi-Wan with accompanying the mission at least part of the way out to keep an eye on the headstrong, arrogant C'baoth.

While they were on the expedition, Obi-Wan often butted heads with C'baoth over C'baoth's running of Outbound Flight, especially when the Jedi Master began taking prospective Jedi children away from their parents in the middle of the night. It was only when Supreme Chancellor Palpatine himself asked Obi-Wan and Anakin to settle a dispute on a world near Outbound Flight's final stop in Republic territory that the two would leave the expedition.

Not long after, Kenobi and his Padawan, along with Siri Tachi and her apprentice, Ferus Olin, were given another mission to investigate the disappearance of a Senator's son. In order to infiltrate a band of renegade students at an elite senatorial school on Andara, Anakin proposed that he and Ferus Olin would penetrate the school by posing to be Senators' sons. Obi-Wan's and Siri's part of the mission involved posing as parents who were enrolling their children in the school. When Ferus was captured, Anakin decided not to tell Obi-Wan, instead hoping that he would find him if he continued with the mission. When Obi-Wan learned of his Padawan's actions, he and the Jedi Council were furious.

Yaddle's sacrifice[]

Soon after, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, and Yaddle were sent on a negotiation mission to Mawan to settle a devastating civil war between three crime gangs. These gangs, led by Decca the Hutt, Feena Shaan, and a man called Striker (who was actually Granta Omega in disguise), caused the rest of the population to take refuge underground. Unbeknownst to them, the chaotic planet was a trap set by Omega. He released a fatal chemical weapon that killed Yaddle when she absorbed it through the Force, saving the city of Naatan in the process. The weapon was intended by its vengeful maker to kill Obi-Wan and his apprentice, but it failed because of Yaddle's sacrifice. Together Obi-Wan and Anakin brought peace to Mawan, but Anakin felt responsible for the death of the Jedi High Council member.

Anakin's guilt about Yaddle's death caused friction between him and Obi-Wan, who felt that he was less than capable of teaching the mischievous boy properly. When sent on a rescue to the Uziel system to a planet called Vanqor, the two were forced to try and reconcile their differences, first fighting their way out of a nest of gundarks, then, under the influence of a drug called the Zone of Self-Containment, Anakin was taken prisoner by the scientist Jenna Zan Arbor. Siri Tachi, Ferus Olin, Garen Muln, and Clee Rhara, who were sent on a mission but received the distress signal while en route, picked up Obi-Wan together with Anakin on Vanqor. Then all Jedi went to Typha-Dor to warn them against incoming Vanqor invasion. After successfully thwarted invasion they all went back to Vanqor after Jenna Zan Arbor and realized she was gone.

Trailing Jenna Arbor and Roy Teda[]

Jenna escaped, however, and did not resurface again until Anakin was eighteen. From information given to them by Tyro Caladian, they found out that she'd appeared on Romin, a focus of corruption and villainy and a shelter for criminals. In order to infiltrate the planet, he, his apprentice, Siri, and Ferus disguised themselves as a band of thieves looking for refuge on the planet. They found that Jenna had allied herself with Roy Teda, the ruler of Romin, and Granta Omega, who also was at qualms with the Jedi. Before the Jedi were captured, civil war erupted. The underworld was trying to overthrow Teda. In the midst of it, Roy and Jenna fled. The criminals contacted the jedi, thinking they were really criminals, trying to find a way offworld. However, Jenna recognized Anakin from their previous encounter, and Roy ordered his men to seize the Jedi. Before they could do so, Mace Windu and a team of Jedi arrived just in time, and arrested Roy and Jenna. Since they were trying to get to Omega, and they knew the two would lead them to him, they set the two captives free. Only a few weeks later, Obi-Wan and his apprentice trailed Jenna and Roy to Falleen, where they had managed to set up the Blackwater Systems facility to mass-produce her drug, the Zone of Self-Containment. When they were found, Jenna was forced to destroy the facility and Roy Teda fled.

Not long after, Sano Sauro, who was a friend of Granta Omega, and Bog Divinian, started to make anti-Jedi accusations in order to convince the Galactic Senate to lessen or completely dissolve its support of the Order. The vote was about whether the Jedi should be involved in the Senate's activities. It was all a part of Sauro and Omega's plan to leak the Zone of Self-Containment into the Senate's vents and assassinate Chancellor Palpatine. Anakin and Ferus, who were learning to forget their rivalry and understand each other, managed to prevent the assassination attempt on the Supreme Chancellor.

Omega's plan was uncovered, but not in time to save twenty-one Senators and several other Senate employees from being killed by seeker droids programmed by Teda. Unbeknownst to him, since Jenna and Granta had no more use for him, a seeker droid killed him, as well. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Siri set off to find Omega, leaving Ferus to protect the Senators and Palpatine.

Tracking Omega and Jenna Zan Arbor to Korriban, four Jedi pairs—Kenobi and Skywalker, Siri and Ferus, Ry-Gaul and Tru Veld, and Soara and Darra—traveled there to confront and stop them. The apprentices were split up from the Masters to better accomplish the mission. The investigation of Dreshdae led them to the Valley of the Dark Lords. During the confrontation with Granta Omega, Kenobi had no choice but kill him as he felt Omega was too dangerous to be kept alive. However Omega had vital information concerning the Sith Lord Darth Sidious which he took with him to his grave.

Mission to Ansion[]

Shortly before the Battle of Geonosis Obi-Wan and Anakin, along with Luminara Unduli and her apprentice, Barriss Offee, were sent to Ansion to settle a border dispute that could have caused the extremely strategic planet to secede to the Confederacy. If Ansion fell, so would countless other worlds. The Jedi negotiated a settlement with city dwellers to remain in the Republic, provided they also convinced the nomadic Alwari to allow expansion into the grasslands. Little did they know that Presidente Shu Mai of the Commerce Guild was pulling the strings to cause Ansion to secede. Arriving early, Obi-Wan and Anakin were just in time to rescue Luminara and Barriss from a mob of killers. Thanks again to Shu Mai and her minion Soergg the Hutt, the Jedi were in constant danger from attack by hired killers, including a successful kidnapping of Barriss by two Ansionians, Kyakhta and Bulgan. Barriss healed the two killers of injuries though, and they became guides for the Jedi to find the nomadic clans, particularly the Borokii overclan.

Traveling on suubatars, the Jedi braved hazards such as flying chawix, kyren hordes, capture by the Yiwa clan and shanhs. On one occasion, the Jedi were required to entertain their hosts, each in their own way. Obi-Wan chose to use a story, weaving a masterful tale that thoroughly impressed the Ansionians. The Jedi eventually made contact with the Borokii overclan, who, after requiring the Jedi to retrieve a tuft of rare albino surepp wool, agreed to the Jedi's settlement—provided they helped wage war against their rivals, the Januul clan. Obi-Wan shocked his companions when he agreed, but he had a plan. When the battle lines were drawn, the Jedi marched out into the middle and refused to fight either side, calling on both clans to negotiate a settlement. Obi-Wan, Anakin, Luminara, and Barriss were subsequently attacked by both sides, but they deflected the assaults, defeating both armies.

In the wake of the following peace between the tribes, the Jedi journeyed back to the capital of Cuipernam to inform the Unity Council controlling the planet's fate of their success. While they were attacked again by thugs, the two clans sent an honor guard to help the Jedi, and Ansion remained in the Republic thanks to the efforts of Obi-Wan and his companions. Because of her status as President, Shu Mai was not discovered to be a part of the matter.

Beginning of the Clone Wars[]

Assassination attempts on Padme Armidala[]

ObiASWS

Kenobi shortly before the Battle of Geonosis.

Ten years after the Invasion of Naboo, shortly after returning from the border dispute on Ansion, Kenobi and Skywalker were tasked with protecting Padmé Amidala after an attempt on her life. Through a ruse organized by Anakin, the assassin, a Clawdite named Zam Wesell, was soon uncovered and Kenobi pursued her through the streets of Coruscant, finally cornering her inside the Outlander Club. Unfortunately for the Jedi, Wesell soon became a victim herself, falling to the poisoned dart of a mysterious hunter garbed in Mandalorian armor. The only clue to his identity was the very dart that killed Wesell—a weapon of Kaminoan design.

Chasing Jango Fett[]

Kenobi contacted his old friend Dexter Jettster, who informed him of Kamino, a planet which was strangely absent from the Jedi Archives. Arriving on Kamino, he was informed that a huge unauthorized clone army was being bred for the Republic, supposedly on the orders of the deceased Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas. Kenobi was introduced to the clones' template, a bounty hunter named Jango Fett. Kenobi contacted the Jedi Council and was told to apprehend the bounty hunter for questioning. Kenobi did as ordered and attempted to apprehend the bounty hunter, leading to a fierce fight between Kenobi and Jango, in which Jango's son Boba fired on Kenobi from Fett's ship. Despite Kenobi's efforts, Fett escaped to Geonosis with his son. Kenobi followed them.

Jango noticed Obi-Wan in pursuit and attempted to finish off the Jedi once and for all by leading him through Geonosis' rings. Kenobi's Jedi starfighter was damaged and he was forced to hide on the back of an asteroid as Fett descended onto Geonosis. After landing on the planet, Kenobi uncovered a conspiracy of star systems that wanted to secede from the Republic, led by Count Dooku. Kenobi was captured shortly after sending a message to Anakin and the Council informing them of the latest development.

Dooku attempted to persuade Kenobi to join the Confederacy of Independent Systems, invoking Kenobi's memory of Qui-Gon Jinn (Dooku's former Padawan), and telling him that a Sith was in control of the Galactic Senate. Dooku invited Obi-Wan to join with him to eliminate the Sith menace once and for all. Much to Dooku's disappointment, Kenobi simply responded that Qui-Gon would never have joined Dooku, and that if the Sith did control the Senate that the Jedi would have sensed it. Dooku left, musing that it would be difficult to secure Kenobi's release.

Battle of Geonosis[]

Obi-Wan: “I was beginning to wonder if you'd got my message.
Anakin: “I retransmitted it just as you requested Master. Then we decided to come and rescue you.
Obi-Wan: “Good job.

— Obi-Wan and Anakin in the arena on Geonosis.

Having received his message, Anakin and Padmé traveled to Geonosis in an attempt to rescue Kenobi before the other Jedi could make the journey from Coruscant, but they too were captured, and all three were sentenced to death by the Geonosians in the Petranaki Arena, where three savage beasts (a nexu, a reek and an acklay) would be their executioners. In the arena, Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padmé managed to fight against the wild beasts sent to kill them and turn the field to their advantage. Dooku then sent droidekas to finish them off.

Arenabattle

It was the timely arrival of Mace Windu and a strike team of over 200 Jedi that prevented their deaths. However, Dooku revealed that he had actually been expecting the rescue all along, and unveiled a devastating army of Separatist droids. The Jedi fought bravely despite being greatly outnumbered by droids, and suffered many casualties. Master Yoda arrived just in time with a massive clone army from Kamino to save the remaining Jedi. This was the beginning of the Battle of Geonosis, and the Clone Wars.

Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé all jumped onto a Republic gunship and proceeded to join the main battle. The Jedi then spotted Count Dooku fleeing from the battle, flanked by two Nantex-class starfighters. Obi-Wanordered the gunship's pilot to chase him. When Padmé was knocked out of the gunship by a laser blast from one of the starfighters, Kenobi was forced to restrain his Padawan from going back after the senator.

Obidooku

Kenobi vs Dooku.

The two Jedi finally caught up to the Sith Lord in a hanger and engaged him in a duel. Anakin rushed in quickly and was incapacitated by Dooku's Force lightning. Kenobi was then left alone to face the Sith Lord and was able to deflect Dooku's Force lightning with his lightsaber. Obi-Wan fought Dooku and held him off for a time before being defeated when the Sith slashed his leg and shoulder. Anakin, however, had recovered by this point and was able to block what would have been Dooku's death blow to Kenobi.

While Anakin and Dooku briefly spoke, Obi-Wan summoned his own dropped lightsaber. Tossing the weapon to Anakin, Kenobi could only watch as his apprentice engaged the Sith Lord. Initially, Anakin was able to catch Dooku off guard, but Dooku was quickly able to sever one of the sabers. Forced to switch back to his preferred style of Form V, Anakin and Dooku engaged continue their duel as Kenobi looked on. Despite Anakin's efforts, Dooku's mastery of Makashi triumphed over youth and Obi-Wan watched as the Sith severed Anakin's arm.

At this critical juncture, Yoda arrived just in time to prevent Dooku from killing an incapacitated Kenobi and Skywalker. Engaging Dooku in a vicious battle, Yoda gained the upper hand and was on the verge of victory, but Dooku caused a massive column to fall over Obi-Wan and Anakin, giving himself time to escape while Yoda telekinetically lifted the column away from Anakin and Obi-Wan.

Clone Wars[]

Battle of Kamino[]

During the first month of the war Obi-Wan, Anakin, Aayla Secura, Shaak Ti and Kit Fisto fought in the battle of Kamino along with Oppo Rancisis who relied on his Battle Meditation and military tactics during the battle. Obi-Wan and Kit led the ground forces while Aayla and Anakin led the air forces and Rancisis used Battle Meditation. Though the battle was a victory some the Separatists, led by Passel Argente, managed to flee.

Loss of an old friend[]

Shortly after the Battle of Kamino, Obi-Wan reunited with Siri Tachi when they teamed up with Anakin and Padmé to acquire a special codebreaker on the planet Genian. The Separatists were also after the important codebreaking mechanism invented by Talesan Fry, whom Siri and Obi-Wan had met sixteen years earlier in a mission to protect him from bounty hunters. Talesan was now the founder of a very wealthy business on Genian, a world that remained neutral during the war. Reuniting with Talesan brought back old memories to Obi-Wan and Siri of the feelings that they once had for each other. After convincing Talesan to give the device to the Republic, they were attacked by someone else from the past, the bounty hunter Magus, who had killed Talesan's parents.

Talesan accompanied the Jedi and Senator Amidala to Azure, where the Republic was fighting off more Separatists. While Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Talesan fought off the attack led by Magus (who was working for the Corporate Alliance), Siri and Padmé took a starfighter of their own to go after Magus himself. Upon reaching Magus' starfighter, Siri made a desperate leap and landed on it. She was able to break into his ship and fight him off, which resulted in the ship's crash landing, but in the process she was shot by Magus.

Obi-Wan found Siri and tried to save her, but she stopped him knowing she was dying. Siri handed him the blue warming crystal she had from that earlier mission together, telling Obi-Wan that she would always be with him, and then passed on. Her death devastated Kenobi, bringing him close to the dark side as he held his lightsaber blade to Magus' throat. However, he regained control, sparing the merciless bounty hunter. Anakin thought this indicated that Obi-Wan did not truly love Siri, because he couldn't imagine not avenging Padmé's death, had she died. Obi-Wan later realized he had learned to love with an open heart, a lesson Qui-Gon had long tried to teach him. He could live with losing Siri.

At some point in the month that followed, Obi-Wan joined the Jedi Council.

Battle of Muunulinst[]

Four months after the Battle of Geonosis, Obi-Wan led the ground forces on Muunilinst while Anakin commanded the space forces. Obi-Wan sent Clone Captain Fordo along with some other clones into the city in a Republic gunship while he and the rest of the Republic army distracted the droid army. Frodo, Rex and the others had been sent on a mission to sneak to the Separatist command centre and destroy a large cannon that was bombarding the Republic forces. They successfully accomplished with while Obi-Wan and his clones drove the droids into the city.

Once inside the city Kenobi an his forces were engaged by a contingent of IG lancer droids led by a bounty hunter named Durge. Obi-Wan countered this threat by leading a team of clone lancer troopers out to meet Durge's forces. The two bands of swoop riders entered into a vicious mass joust, both clone and droid alike being impaled or thrown aside like debris. As both sides sustained massive casualties, the two commanders spotted one another and engaged in personal combat while the clones continued towards the Command centre.

On the first jousting pass Obi-Wan sliced Durge's lance in half as they went past while Durge hit the Jedi's engines as Kenobi passed him. Obi-Wan leapt off the speeder bike, considering it useless now that its engines were destroyed. Durge then picked up the bike himself and attacked only for Obi-Wan to slice it apart and stab him in the chest. Laughing wickedly, Durge simply started to beat Obi-Wan with his fists, leaving Kenobi's lightsaber stuck in his body, before unleashing a flurry of different weapons, ranging from a flamethrower to a mace. Obi-Wan used the Force to retrieve his lightsaber and managed to get close. Durge defended himself with two small energy shields until Obi-Wan sliced off his arm, then slashed him in half.

Unaware that Durge was regenerating as he left, Obi-Wan and his clones broke into the Command centre through the ceiling and were engaged by a group of droids within including several droideka's. However though Droideka's shields blocked weapons they didn't deflect living beings so Obi-Wan and the clones only had to walk through the shields in order to defeat them.

Durge then came flying in through the window and started to single handedly obliterate the Clones. Realizing that the Gen'Dai could simply regenerate from any lightsaber strike, Obi-Wan found himself swallowed up in the bounty hunters body. In sheer desperation, he managed to unleash a massive Force Repulse before being suffocated, ripping Durge to pieces and bypassing his regeneration powers, killing the bounty hunter for good.

Obi-Wan then captured the Muun leaders, except San Hill who had used Durge's distraction as a chance to lock the other leaders in the room while he escaped. The victorious Republic forces then saw a fighter zoom past the window followed by another fighter which belonged to Anakin. Obi-Wan contacted his Padawan who told him he was chasing a Force sensitive pilot. Obi-Wan ordered Anakin not to follow the pilot, which happened to be Asajj Ventress but Skywalker ignored him and chased Ventress to Yavin 4. Obi-Wan sent Captain Fordo and a squad of clones after him.

When Anakin returned he informed Obi-Wan that every Clone that had gone with him, including Fordo, had been killed by the assassin. Obi-Wan was furious with Anakin for disobeying him but before he finished scolding him he was contacted by Jedi Master Adi Gallia who told him they needed immediate evacuation from Hypori. Obi-Wan sent Commander Rex to rescue the survivors along with a group of clones but Rex only managed to retrieve three of them: Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura and Ahsoka Tano. Everybody else had been slain by General Grievous.

Anakin's promotion[]

After returning to Coruscant, Obi-Wan suggested that Anakin be promoted to Jedi Knight. The Council agreed, albeit not unanimously and Obi-Wan proudly watched Yoda Knight his now former Padawan.

Only a couple of days after his promotion, Anakin suggested that he take Ahsoka Tano, who lost her own Master on Hypori, as his Padawan. Initially confused due to Skywalker's seeming disconnect from younger Jedi, Obi-Wan acknowledged that this could be good for him.

The Malevolence[]

Later, when information arose regarding a mysterious Separatist superweapon that systematically destroyed several Republic fleets, the Council sent one of its members, Master Plo Koon, to track it down. However, upon Master Koon comming Skywalker with information regarding the unknown weapon, his communications systems became jammed and he was unable to be contacted. As such, Skywalker reported these events to Chancellor Palpatine, and Masters Yoda, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan.

The Council, in conjunction with the Supreme Chancellor, decided against mounting a task force to ascertain the situation that Master Koon had found himself in, feeling that his forces were most likely entirely wiped out much like previous fleets. However, Anakin's Padawan, Ahsoka, having a special connection to Plo Koon, refused to believe that he had been killed, and as such, she and Skywalker disregarded the Council's orders and journeyed to the Abregado system.

Obi-Wan soon discovered his former Padawan's actions and was forced to report them to the Council. However, Anakin's recklessness soon proved fortunate, after he successfully rescued Plo Koon and a handful of troops. In addition, Plo Koon was able to reveal the nature of the Separatist superweapon; it was a giant ship, known as the Malevolence, with ion cannons capable of disabling entire fleets.

With this information, Anakin formulated a daring plan to engage and destroy the Malevolence's ion cannons using Y-wing bombers, to prevent the destruction of an Outer Rim medical center. It would then fall to Obi-Wan to enter the system and destroy the massive warship using the combined fire power of their fleet. Kenobi helped organize the evacuation of the medical center, dispatching medical frigates for the evacuation. While Skywalker's task force proved successful in destroying the ion cannons, the Malevolence was so large that it could withstand the fire of Obi-Wan's fleet.

Indeed, the situation became much worse when an old friend, Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo, appeared in system during the battle, having been given false information regarding a diplomatic mission to the system. Obi-Wan and Anakin were horrified as they watched Padme get pulled aboard the Malevolence by a tractor beam. The pair quickly mounted a mission to rescue her which ultimately proved successful, though Obi-Wan was forced to briefly clash with General Grievous while attempting to sabotage the warship's hyperdrive. In addition, Anakin rigged the warship's navacomputer to pilot it into a nearby moon, destroying the deadly superweapon, after the group escaped.

Mission to Orto Plutonia[]

Later Obi-Wan visited Orto Plutonia along with Chairman Chi Cho and Senator Riyo Chuchi. There they discovered that the native Talz had killed their Clone troopers. Chairman Cho declared war on the Talz and Obi-Wan sent Rex to guard him while he, Anakin and Chuchi attempted to find a way to stop the war. Cho was killed but none of the Jedi were particularly remorseful and Chuchi successfully made peace with the Talz.

Personality and traits[]

In his youth Obi-Wan was arrogant and impatient but under the guidance of Yoda he became more humble and reserved. He was very dedicated to his Jedi training and showed desperation to become Qui-Gon Jinn's Padawan. Qui-Gon later agreed to train him and though Obi-Wan was less headstrong and more orthadox than his Master they made an effective team.

As Obi-Wan grew older he became more peaceful and cautious than he had been in his youth and preferred to settle things by talking rather than fighting. After the death of Coleman Trebor, Obi-Wan was considered the Jedi's best negotiator earning him the nickname "The Negotiator". Though he preferred peace, Obi-Wan was known to have a calm and sometimes cheerful demeanor in combat often coming up with quick witted quips even when he was in a deadly situation. He possessed a dry sense of humour and sarcastic wit. Obi-Wan even called Asajj Ventress "my darling" and "my sweet".

Obi-Wan was a strong willed man and was able to resist the pull of the dark side on at least two occasions, first when he duelled Darth Maul and later when he fell in love with Siri Tachi. Though heartbroken by Siri's death he didn't kill her murderer, Magus, when he had the chance.

Unlike most Jedi, Obi-Wan did allow himself to form attachments and became attached to Anakin Skywalker, Qui-Gon Jinn and Siri Tachi. He was also very understanding about other peoples attachments. However he didn't approve of becoming attached to a droid since they were not living beings and therefore lectured Anakin on becoming attached to R2-D2. He was also able to let go of his attachments as shown when he moved on from the deaths of Qui-Gon Jinn and Siri Tachi.

Despite his positive qualities, Obi-Wan suffered from a lack of self-awareness, frequently lecturing Anakin for doing things that he was perfectly willing to do himself. This hypocrisy drove a wedge between him and Anakin and subtly influences Anakin's eventual fall to the dark side. Obi-Wan never fully comprehended how badly he had failed his apprentice, understanding the basic fact that he had done so but being unable to grasp the nuances of why he failed. Indeed, in his later years, Obi-Wan fell into outright denial about Anakin and Darth Vader being the same person, rationalizing them as separate individuals and lying to both Luke Skywalker and himself about it.

Powers and abilities[]

Lightsaber training[]

ObiwanNimanOpeningStance

Though Obi-Wan was a peaceful man he was also a formidable swordsman one of the best in the Jedi Order. In his early years Kenobi was trained to use Ataru and became a skilful practitioner of the style, managing to hold his own against Darth Maul despite Ataru's weak defence. However after the death of Qui-Gon Jinn, he studied and mastered Soresu, though he retained his expertise in Ataru at well.

Obi-Wan also put elements of Shii-Cho into his swordplay and he frequently used the Niman opening stance when preparing to fight. Due to Soresu and Niman's very similar mindsets, Obi-Wan was able to fuse the two styles together seamlessly to the point where even a duellist as skilled as Asajj Ventress didn't immediately realize that despite liking Form VII's opening stance - something Obi-Wan described as a "personal quirk" - he specialised in Form III's swordplay.

Obi-Wan's lightsaber skills were so advanced that he was able to defeat Darth Maul while he was still a Padawan. However he only defeated Maul because the Sith Lord was arrogantly sure that Obi-Wan was defeated and hadn't thought about the fact that Obi-Wan could use the Force to leap out of the pit and summon Qui-Gon's lightsaber. Therefore it could be argued that Obi-Wan defeated Maul through luck rather than skill. He later survived the battle of Geonosis, held off Count Dooku for several minutes despite being exhausted and fended off Asajj Ventress on several occasions.

By the end of the Clone War, Obi-Wan's mastery of Form III had reached such an extraordinary level that Mace Windu, a master of all lightsaber combat forms, believed that Obi-Wan was not a master of Soresu but the master of Soresu. Obi-Wan's tight, efficient techniques and calm, meditative mindset in combat enabled him to quickly defeat Grievous in the lightsaber on lightsaber portion of their duel. The most impressive display of his mastery was when he defeated the almost unstoppable Darth Vader on Mustafar by waiting patiently for the moment where Vader became sloppy and overconfident, allowing Obi-Wan to slice off three of his limbs and win the duel.

Force powers[]

Master Kenobi was also very powerful in the Force and was able to use a powerful Force Push or Force Wave when he needed to. He was also able to leap huge distances and telekinetically deflect attacks without his lightsaber. Kenobi's mastery of the Force also enabled him to use Force Repulse, an uncommon ability which caused a controlled but powerful explosion within a small radius.

In addition Kenobi was a master of Jedi Mind Tricks and incredibly skilled at controlling vicious animals. This was displayed on Ryloth when he was able to control a whole group of angry and hungry Gutkurs by using the Force.

Other abilities[]

Despite his dislike of flying, Master Kenobi was an excellent pilot one of the best in the Jedi Order. He was also good at fixing broken machines and as a youngling he was fascinated by mechanics.

Obi-Wan was a great military strategist leading the Republic to numerous victories during the Clone Wars. He was also good at speaking alien languages which he learnt from Qui-Gon. The languages he could speak were Basic, Nelvaanese, Shyriiwook and Twi'leki.
