Rise of the Empire era

The Number 1 ion carbine, also known as just the Number 1, was a second generation ion carbine and the first ion carbine created by Ionix Combat Systems in 84 BBY.

Appearance[]

The weapon had a carbine sized barrel which was covered in a tightly wound, glowing red wire that charged the particles and increased their velocity. A metal pipe was under the barrel which also doubled as having a wooden foregrip on it for the user's front hand. The main core of the weapon was black with a selector switch, two safety buttons for safety on/off as well as a heat sync on the left side of the weapon. On the same side was the battery pack which hooked up to the rear of the weapon. There was a pistol style grip which had a trigger guard attached to it as well as an attachment point for the wooden stock which came standard with the weapon.

History[]

Development[]

Development of a new line of weapons was envisioned by Ionix soon after their debut in 100 BBY, however they needed more experience with developing and engineering ion weapons before they could think of making anything more advanced than a pistol design, so held off trying more heavy duty weapon until at least their second generation of ion weapons. They got their chance to make a more advanced weapon system in 89 BBY, when the reception of the Number 10 ion machine pistol was still lukewarm and its popularity low. It was decided to replace it with a new line, discontinuing the machine pistol line and replacing it with a true, dedicated primary weapon system over a somewhat hybrid pistol/carbine design. The end result was the Number 1 ion carbine, a true primary weapon that the designers hoped would replace the Number 10 and satisfy critics of that design. After five years in development, the weapon was unveiled in 84 BBY and released to the public.

Public release[]

The weapon was met with stellar reviews by critics, and while it did have some detractors, it was overwhelmingly successful compared to the Number 10 on its release. One of its main detractors came in the form of its rather crude design, which was a combination of the early days of the first generation ion weapons and the more sleek designs of the second generation. To add to this, Ionix was preparing to release their first third-generation weapon in the form of the Number 7 ion pistol, which was a stark contrast to the Number 1, making critics and members of the public confused at the choice to release something to crude looking when the latest generation as coming out. However, its performance far and away out shadowed its looks. The weapon had all the features that the Number 10 had, including a selector switch for firing modes and similar power, but now in a true primary weapon form factor. The Number 1 also saw the return of the removable, solid, wood stock, one of the major complains of the Number 10 where it was lacking it. Upon its release, the weapon was highly popular and was the final nail in the coffin of the Number 10, which was discontinued just a year later in 83 BBY.

The weapon was popular as a home defense weapon in the Outer Rim Territories, as well as being a primary weapon for certain security firms and private protective services, who armed their personnel with Number 1s. While its appearance prevented the weapon being massively popular heading towards the core, it was nonetheless a well received weapon and flew off shelves.

Discontinuation[]

The weapon enjoyed quite a long, successful sale life, lasting all the way until 70 BBY, when it was finally retired for its fourth generation successor, the Number 18 ion carbine.
