Nulu Thini was a male Bith Jedi Master. During the New Sith Wars, he served on the Jedi High Council, having been elected no later than 1,391 BBY. Master Thini was more concerned with the ability of Jedi Knights than their time in service.
As part of his duties on the Council, Master Thini served as the Council's liaison to the Galactic Senate. He enjoyed a close friendship with the Jedi Supreme Chancellor Phnyong and positive working relationships with many influential Core World senators. He trained at least one Padawan to Jedi Knighthood—the Melitto Slejux Nissatak.
In the wake of Phnyong's assassination on Anaxes in 1,387 BBY, Thini participated in many debates on which Jedi Master should be elected to the Chancellorship while using his influence and friendships to bring some contentious Republic worlds back into the fold. After the High Council declined to put forward Masters Elata Cazars or Nawsa Arodion for the Chancellorship, several leading senators and Jedi Masters Tem-Fol-Rytil and Mar Towla struck a deal to advance Thini for the post. The Senate overwhelmingly voted Thini into the post; several key Republic worlds were absent from the Senate for the vote, but political observers considered it one of Thini's early successes that Senator Jendaya Rose of Corellia participated.
After the Duel on Gyndine, Thini sent a personal commendation to Elmir and Bekli for their victory over Darth Vandak. He often consulted with the senior Masters of the High Council, such as in the wake of the Battle of Eriadu, and again when fortunes were reversed at the Battle of Allanteen. When Corellia sent delegates to the Commenori Economic Roundtable, Thini conceded to Corellian King Jedossen e Solo's request to dispatch Nawsa Arodion to supervise security; after Satir and Galera Solo were assassinated despite Nawsa's efforts, Thini asked Tem-Fol-Rytil to attend their funeral as his personal representative.
Following the destruction of Deep Storage Facility 214-Peth, Thini personally dispatched Tirien Kal-Di to hunt down the Breld Syndicate, though he conceded to Tirien and Mali Darakhan's request to also send Narasi Rican instead of Kenza Rowkwani. Not long after Argus Z'dar was killed and the nuclear crisis ended, Thini had a new problem on his hands with the Conscription Act. In the midst of the debate, Mali killed Valin Aresh and destroyed the Redeemer, and Thini awarded the Jedi who partook in the mission the Chancellor's Service Medal. Thini's structuring of the Conscription Act debate, which excluded those opposed to all conscription from the initial framing speeches, earned the frustration of Alderaan, though Tirien tried to smooth over the issue.
Though he tried to refrain from interfering with the Council's prerogatives after becoming Chancellor, in 1,383 BBY Nulu had considerable concerns over reports of Tirien and Narasi Rican becoming involved with a number of problematic activities on the Outer Rim. Only days later, Nulu received with dismay the report that the duo had broken Darqyren Valt out of the Jedi Temple's Detention Center, but he was flabbergasted when Tirien contacted him and cautioned him against a nebulous danger. Nulu's Senate Guards offered to evacuate him, only to turn on him and try to assassinate him; Nulu survived only due to Tirien's forewarning and Camris Ver-tir's loyalty. He allowed Camris to escort him from the building to the Corellian embassy, where Jendaya Rose gave them both sanctuary. In the aftermath of the Rebirth conspiracy, Nulu pressured Tem-Fol-Rytil to go easy on Tirien and Narasi, and tried to put Camris at ease over lingering guilt from Phnyong's death.
Powers and abilities[]
Nulu's lightsaber style, a balance point between Makashi and Soresu, made extensive use of his ability to perceive minute changes and act with microscopic precision. He was a sufficiently skillful swordsman to defeat five Senate Guards attacking him simultaneously.
