— Nomis Katanga and Indiana Jones confer during the boarding of the Bantu Star

Nomis Katanga was the male Duros captain of the spice freighter Bantu Star, operating out of the planet Bantu.

Biography[]

In 2 ABY, while delivering rare Camildronan spice to Jabba Desilijic Tiure, Katanga was contacted by his close friend Sallah Kahir, who was looking for secret passage for his friends, Indiana Jones and Marion Revanwood, and their cargo — the Codex of Tython holocron, stolen from the Imperial dig site on Tatooine. Katanga agreed to provide passage from Tatooine to the Rebel Base at Hoth, and loaded the cargo and passengers at night and set out.

The next morning, while orbiting Geonosis, the Bantu Star was ordered to stop by the Imperial Star Destroyer Devastator. When this happened, Katanga told Jones and Doownevar to hide. When his ship was boarded by archaeologist René Belloq, Imperial Colonel Mannher Dietrich, and the 202nd Assault Regiment in TIE boarding craft, Katanga surrendered to protect his ship and crew from the well-armed stormtroopers, and gave up the holocron. Acting without defiance, Katanga allowed the Ark to be turned over to the Imperial troops. As soon as the Imperials were back on the Devastator, Katanga ordered his men to find Jones, still hidden on the ship. While watching the Imperials depart, Katanga stood on the bridge of his ship when one of his men reported to him that Jones could not be found. Ordering him to search again, the pirate looked across to the Devastator and pointed out the captain's personal Class A escape pod, which was being flown by Jones and Doownevar, to Katanga.
