Old Republic era

Nomi Sofora-Waverunner, known more commonly as Nomi Waverunner, was a female Mirialan and soldier in the Republic Army during the Great Galactic War, Cold War, Galactic War, invasion of the Eternal Empire, the revolt that followed and the Third Galactic War.

As a member of a respected military family, Nomi – named after the legendary Republic hero Nomi Sunrider – was raised to be a diehard Republic loyalist and was groomed for a military career from an early age.

When she was six years old, her younger sister Sophia was taken to be trained as a Jedi, leading to Nomi resenting the Jedi Order for many years.

Some time after enlisting in the Republic army, Nomi met fellow soldier Yuri Waverunner and the pair began a romantic relationship, eventually marrying and having two, Jedi Knight Zhavi Waverunner and her younger brother Carth Waverunner, a field agent for the Republic Strategic Information Service.

At some point after Carth was born, Nomi had her legs severed by a Sith apprentice, resulting in her developing an intense hatred of all Sith and deepening her dislike of the Jedi, which began to develop into a dislike of anyone who used the Force.

Due to her continued exposure to Zhavi and her wife Isla and Carth's wife Bon Waverunner, Nomi's intolerance towards Force users softened considerably over time. By the time she retired, Nomi was much more level-headed and understanding than she was in her youth.

Through Carth, Nomi was the grandmother of Kai and Emma Waverunner. Through Zhavi, she was the grandmother of Acina, Atem and Meetra Waverunner, though she died before Atem and Meetra were born, launching a suicide attack which crippled Darth Hamon's superdreadnought – the Hammer of Hamon – and allowed Republic forces to destroy it.

Following her death above Shimka's Well, a statue of Nomi was created by Isla Waverunner and erected in the planet's capital city, immortalising her heroism. Meetra Waverunner visited the statue many times in her life to "talk" with her deceased grandmother.
