The Nilgarians were a race of large avian humanoids native to the Mid Rim planet of Nilgaria. They bore a strong resemblance to the Tarongs of Disim and Iri.
Biology and appearance[]
The Nilgarians were 2.2 meter tall hawk-like humanoids with brown feathers and green eyes. They have feathered wings on their backs which were a wingspan up to 10 meters.
Society and culture[]
Nilgarians could work for any affiliation and occupation, and could speak in a language which consists of hawk-like screeches. They could speak Basic. They also shared their name with the Nilgarian worm, a type of non-sentient annelid from their homeworld. They were one of the 5 million sentient species (alien races) known to the Empire in the galaxy.
History[]
The Nilgarians were the sentient descendants of a non-sentient avian species. They evolved on Nilgaria, a forested planet located in the Nilgaria system within the Masla sector of the Mid Rim. Their homeworld was explored sometime between 1000 BBY and 25 BBY, during the widespread settlement and opening of Deep Core. They shared their home sector with the Jminians and the Minothians. It became a part of Republic Space during the Clone Wars. In 25 ABY, their homeworld's population was at least 1 million, the same year the Yuuzhan Vong invaded their home galaxy. Their homeworld became a part of Darth Krayt's Sith Empire in 137 ABY.
