The Neimoidians were a sentient species from Cato Neimoidia that controlled the Trade Federation. Originally one of many member species in control of the corporation, the Neimoidians eventually came to have a monopoly over the Federation when Nute Gunray had the non-Neimoidian members assassinated. The Neimoidians were also responsible for the Invasion of Utapau.
Biology and appearance[]
The average Neimoidian had green skin, which some described as "sickly", with bald heads and comparatively large black eyes. At least two Neimoidians, Nute Gunray and Rune Haako, wore large ceremonial hats and matching robes.[1]
Society and culture[]
Neimoidians were described as having been ruthless and heartless, yet cowardly if the right pressure was applied to them. Their perceived cowardice also applied to external threats being directed at them. Despite their cowardly nature, Neimoidians condoned the use of slave workers in the Trade Federation, and used them in their business ventures outside of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Senate created a law forbidding them and other corporations from doing so.[1]
History[]
Before Nute Gunray became Viceroy of the Trade Federation, the Trade Federation Directorate controlled most of the corporation. After Gunray became Viceroy, however, he received assistance from the Dark Jedi Lord Maul in assassinating the non-Neimoidian members of the Directorate. When that was accomplished, Gunray filled the empty seats with his own Neimoidian puppets, such as his chief adviser Rune Haako. Not only did this give Gunray full control over the Federation, but it also gave the Neimoidians a monopoly over the entire corporation. One year later, the Republic abolished the Federation's right to use slaves outside of Republic territory, prompting the Neimoidians to launch the Invasion of Utapau.[1]
