Naval Command was a staff of senior officers within the Imperial Navy. It tracked all fleet movements and issued orders to lesser admirals, being the overall head of the Navy. The twelve Grand Admirals were part of Command, with one being appointed as the Chief of Staff. Most avoided the position, as it led to a desk job. Grand Admiral Viktor Makarov held that position since 18 BBY, later replaced by Gilad Pellaeon.
It commanded naval forces throughout the Galactic Civil War, and was fragmented following the Battle of Endor. The Command was reunited under the Imperial Remnant in 12 ABY. Much later, in 131 ABY, it was dissolved by Darth Krayt while part of his Galactic Empire. Many infuriated admirals defected to the Empire-in-exile.
