The Naginata-class Chie Imperial Destroyer, also known as the Naginata or simply Nagi, was a capital ship and the second largest ship employed by the Chie Imperial Army, from the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong War onwards. Well armed and extremely fast, the Naginata could hold it's own against the much larger Imperial I-class Star Destroyer.
Characteristics[]
Beautiful, those Nagis. Reminiscent of some vast, primordial sea creature. Real works of art, they are.

Dimensions[]
The Naginata class was one of the Chie Empire's largest ships, falling behind only the massive Morutaru class. More than half a mile long, the Naginata, though smaller than several classes of Star Destroyer, could easily defend against ships several times its size.
Crew requirements[]
Though a large ship, due to the simplicity of the Naginata's systems, it could be operated by a relatively small crew. Counting the full crew of 10,000, plus a full military garrison of an additional 7,500, the Naginata class held up to 17,500 passengers.
Offensive and defensive systems[]
The Naginata's main weapons were several heavy turbolaser and ion cannon turrets located under retractable openings which were designed to give the ship a sleeker, more aerodynamic shape when not in use. These were located along the front and body of the ship, as well as the leading edge of the wings. These could swivel in a way that any target could be fired upon by a large number of guns, no matter its location relative to the ship. Additionally, the Naginata was armed with a multitude of smaller, similarly concealed weapons for attacking smaller targets. They were also equipped with heavy antimatter torpedoes, which were used for breaching the hulls of enemy capital ships.
Complement[]
Naginata-class destroyers typically had a complement of several hundred small and mid-sized starfighters of the Kunai and Shuriken classes, as well as a number of Yumi-class bombers and Bo-class corvettes. These were housed in a large hangar located on the bottom of the ship, covered by heavy blast doors when not in use. An organized traffic system applied to ships entering and leaving the hangar. The ship was well equipped for atmospheric operation and thus required no landing craft, but could hold them if needed. These ships carried 7,500 troops and pilots, housed on the level immediately above the hangar.
Propulsion systems[]
The Naginata class was powered by a pair of enormous antimatter reactors, which could create thousands of times more energy than ion reactors of the same size. These were used to power the huge engines located on the wings and tail of the ship. These engines were capable of accelerating to 4,500 G in a matter of seconds, and maintaining a speed of 2,500 km/h. The sleek profile of the Naginata increased its atmospheric speed significantly, giving it an advantage over other capital ships, even those significantly larger than itself.
History[]
Hard to believe the Chie mastered shipbuilding so quickly. Most of Kuat's ships aren't this good, and they've been around a couple thousand years longer.

Origin[]
The Naginata class was originally built by the Chie in 25 ABY, as a part of their first modern space fleet. One of these ships, No Surrender, took part in the Battle of Chie'kyr. They continued to be built and used throughout the Yuuzhan Vong War.
Later use[]
By the end of the war in 29 ABY, large numbers of these ships were in service. Following the joining of the Chie with the Glactic Federation of Free Alliances, many of these ships served in the Galactic Alliance's military. They were, however, pulled from service during the Second Galactic Civil War. After the end of the conflict, Naginata-class ships continued to serve the Galactic Alliance, even after Darth Krayt took control of the Galaxy.
