The Mysteries of the Sith Fan Project, also known as Mysteries of the Sith: A Fan Novelization or Mysteries Fan Novel (MFN), is an upcoming fan project being worked on by Clonehunter. The goals of the project are to create a fan novelization of the video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith in the style of the Dark Forces novels published by Dark Horse Comics and expand upon different concepts of the game while trying to remain set in existing Star Wars canon. A release date is to be decided, though it is believed it will be released by chapters on the Jedi Council Net Forums.
Plot Summary[]
After an Imperial attack on the New Republic base located on Altyr V, Jedi Kyle Katarn embarks to the world of Dromuund Kaas, an ancient world once ruled by the Sith thousands of years in the past. Synopsis[]
(Note: This is a proposed Plot/Synopsis. Details are not final. Plots, characters, events, locations, and other misc. are all subject to change in the future or at the time of release for the completed fan-fiction.)
Part One: Altyr V[]
During the opening moments of Operation Shadow Hand, Imperial agents had gained control of two derelict asteroids, modifying them to serve as small space bases and as planetary assault weapons. The asteroids were designated as Asteroid-1a and Asteroid-1b, or A-1a and A-1b for short. Both asteroids were then put under the control of the recently promoted Admiral Jervis Funmus, who wished to test the weapons on Altyr V, where a recently instated New Republic base had been built. Funmus, upon realizing just how small, yet well armed, the base was, decided to test his skills at a combination attack of both air and ground forces. He called for backup from another Imperial fleet as he approached the planet. The two asteroids were able to move through hyperspace, but arrived fairly far off from the planet. Floating through the space the asteroids were caught in Altyr V's gravitational pull, which to the base below appeared to completely normal, as asteroids generally found their way to Altyr V all the time, generally burning up as they tried to enter the atmosphere. Funmus began to prepare for an aerial bombardment, using the cannons of A-1a to destroy defensive weapons while using the ion cannons of A-1b to neutralize the base's other systems. Ahead of the bombardment though, he began to send down troop ships so that they may arrive right as the bombardment stops. Avery Horne, a young shuttle pilot in a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle nicknamed Shadowbolt, was handpicked by Funmus to lead the shuttles to the planet's surface.
Meanwhile on the planet below, Jedi Knight and recently instated New Republic Captain Kyle Katarn has taken to training Mara Jade, a former Force-sensitive Imperial agent known as the Emperor's Hand. Mara had also previously worked for the smuggler Talon Karrde, but had since wanted to join the ranks of the fledgling New Jedi Order. As the two engage in a lightsaber training duel, the Imperial attack commences. Heading to the base's command center, New Republic Commander Elan Shepard informed them that what appeared to be two normal asteroids had taken up an odd and sudden geosynchronous orbit around the planet, bombarding their base with laser and ion cannons. Second-in-command Lieutenant Jace Merv also informs that a larger Imperial fleet had been spotted by the long range outpost on Delta 3, heading towards Altyr V. Realizing that they must evacuate as opposed to staying to fight, Shepard notes that they may be forced to stay and fight due to the asteroids pinning the ships down. Katarn hastily cobbles together a plot to overtake the asteroids by infiltrating one with a stolen shuttle. While the plan meets some resistance from Jade and Shepard, Katarn ultimately pursues it. He quickly cut off from Ops though and a TIE/sa bomber knocks out parts of the base.
Ground troops begin to land, and Horne's shuttle is blasted by a New Republic soldier with a rail detonator, forcing Horne to land. The damage causes the Shadowbolt's cloaking device to become inactive, allowing Merv to track it as it lands for repairs. Jade informs Kyle about the ship as he restores power to a part of the base. He begins to head towards the shuttle as more Imperial forces break into the base. Appearing evenly matched against the New Republic soldiers, something of a stalemate arises between the opposing forces. Katarn is able to tip the odds in his favor though as he cuts through the Imperials with ease. Jade and Shepard are also eventually forced into combat. Katarn eventually reaches the shuttle after disabling several AT-STs, and after killing the shuttles guards and crew, including Horne, Katarn commandeers the ship. Horne however was able to repair the cloaking device before his death, and Katarn employs it as he heads for the asteroid designated A-1a. From the ship's computer he learns that the operation is being headed by the Admiral Funmus. Katarn lands undetected on the asteroid, but upon meeting enemy troops in the catacombs and crevices, an alarm goes up alerting the entire asteroid. Funmus, a seasoned fighter as well as an officer, eagerly suits up t combat Katarn, but never manages to reach him before Katarn gains control of the asteroids cannons, aiming them at A-1b, destroying it. Katarn gains access to another computer where he finds the coordinates of an ancient Sith world called Dromund Kaas. The information for the dark world was to be sent to the reborn Emperor, who may of had some use of the world. Katarn sends the coordinates to his ship before erasing any information about the world from the Imperial computers. Katarn then manages to set the asteroid to self-destruct by overloading the cannon and heading deep within the asteroid to destroy the power cores. Funmus finally encounters Katarn in a heavily upgraded AT-ST, but Katarn disables it by cutting through its legs with his lightsaber. Katarn simply escapes back to his shuttle then, leaving the asteroid to explode, killing all still left on-board, including Funmus.
Katarn returns to Altyr V to oversee the evacuation. Shepard and Katarn promise the citizens of the world that they will return in the future to oversee the removal of the Imperial forces still on their way. Katarn then reveals the world of Dromund Kaas to Jade, who wnats to go with him to explore it. Katarn, already sensing a dark energy about, it requests that Mara stay with Shepard and the New Republic and help them out where she can. Katarn disembarks with his stolen shuttle while Jade heads to Shepard's command ship, Sarlacc's Regret. Altyr V is completely evacuated then, leaving no opposing forces for the Imperials when they arrive. The Imperials decided that, even with the loss of the asteroids and Funmus, the battle became an Imperial victory due to the evacuation.
