Myna Tasseva was a Chagrian female Jedi Knight who later became the Sith Master Lady Saarai.

Biography[]

Born on the watery world of Champala, Myna Tasseva discovered her Force-sensitivity at a fortunate time; the Galactic Empire had been defeated and the Jedi Order restored. With her parents' blessing, Myna traveled to Yavin 4, where she became a pupil to Master Appa Nakil, sharing his love for knowledge. During her time at the Jedi Praxeum, Myna became good friends with fellow Jedi Jzora, Nyyra, and the prodigal Kalen Rusher. She also became close with Mar Voran, whom she eventually married and had a child with. After Voran was made a Jedi Master, the couple moved back to Champala with their daughter Lyra and settled down, hoping to live the rest of their lives as a happy family.

When Voran joined the mysterious Dark Jedi Order, Myna, not wanting to be away from her husband, insisted that she and Lyra come with him. The Dark Jedi agreed to allow the Chagrians to live on Dromund Kaas, provided that they maintain secrecy. During her time on Dromund Kaas, Myna came across an abandoned library of Sith records. Having always had a thirst for knowledge, Myna lost herself to the lore of the Sith, becoming enraptured in it. Even when the Dark Jedi Order disbanded and Myna returned to Champala, she found herself yearning for more. Shortly after Voran's disappearance, Myna was approached by a woman named Lysira Naris, who had been one of Voran's fellow Dark Jedi. She offered Myna a chance to rebuild the Sith and the Chagrian woman jumped at the opportunity, becoming one of twelve Sith Masters. She would later take on the name Lady Saarai — derived from the Sith word for "truth" — to reflect her desire to learn the "truth" of the Sith.

With the help of her former master Appa Nakil, Lady Saarai was able to relocate the wealth of Sith knowledge on Dromund Kaas to Jaguada, where she maintained a Sith library with her daughter Lyra and her apprentice Karis. Behind her back however, Karis was passing on items of her library to Lysira's apprentice Varon Krul, who eventually led a secession from the Sith Order. During the insurgency that followed, Saarai remained on Jaguada, showing no interest in helping her fellow masters in tracking down their apprentices.

Even after Varon was defeated and Lysira disbanded the Sith, Saarai remained on Jaguada, refusing to give up the library she had worked so hard to build. A year after the Battle of Mandalore, her estranged husband finally returned to her, now working for the resurgent Dark Lord Darth Krayt. After being forced to kill Lyra, Voran confronted Myna in her library and demanded the amulet of Jarak Null, an ancient Dark Lord of the Sith. Saarai refused and instead attempted to use the amulet against her husband, succeeding only in consuming herself.

Behind the scenes[]

Myna Tasseva's name is a combination of two sample names for Chagrian characters from the Ultimate Alien Anthology: Myn Seda and Belar Tasseva.
