The Morsian Army lightsaber was a type of mass produced, commercial military grade Lightsaber produced by the Morsians for the Morsian Army.
History[]
Creation[]
The lightsaber was first introduced to the army when a Morsian Jedi returned to the planet to collect a Morsian lightsaber crystal to construct their lightsaber with. That same Jedi then taught the Morsians how to create their own lightsabers, that non-Force wielding beings could use. The Morsians realised that the the lightsaber was an excellent evolution for the Morsian Gladius that the army often used, as the lightsaber blade could be adjusted in length to serve the same purpose. Several designs were thrown around until finally a basic but serviceable one was decided on.
Mass production[]
Due to the abundance of billions of crystals found across Mors, lightsabers were quickly mass produced once the early kinks and problems were worked out. The lightsabers were quickly supplied to the legions, who were very impressed at the power the lightsaber packed, demanding them for all troops across all areas of the Morsian army. Lightsaber production was ramped up and soon they were flooding the army, being standard issue to all troops.
Continued usage[]
The lightsaber was lightweight and easy to wield, being far easier to use for long periods of melee combat over the gladius. The weapon was the standard melee weapon for all ranks of the Morsian Army, with legions having spare stockpiles of it in their legionary fortresses for when the weapon broke or malfunctioned. Due to it being military hardware, the lightsaber was well sought after by criminals and black marketeers, though they rarely got their hands on one.
Design[]
The weapon was made of black Morsian metal that was found on Mors, though for those legions on the Morsian Protectorate Planets, native metal was used instead to save on cost and resources. There was basic decoration at the blade end and a simple pommel at the other. A leather-type wrap was used as a grip on the handle.
