The Milky Way Imperium is an interstellar government located in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is about two million light-years from the Andromeda Galaxy, which is actually Galactic Prime, the galaxy that contained the Galactic Republic, the Jedi Order, and later Palpatine's Galactic Empire. The Milky Way Imperium was ruled by the Padishah Emperor, a member of House Corrino. The Milky Way Imperium had a legal and cultural bias against computers and droids with artificial intelligence, but fortunately, it had orders that were adept at using the Force. One of these Force-using orders was the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood which was all-female and all-human, functioning like hyper-intelligent computers. The other was the Spacing Guild, which had a monopoly on the use of starships equipped with hyperdrives. The Spacing Guild was also all-human in membership.
Economy[]
The economy of the Milky Way Imperium was dominated by an interstellar corporation called CHOAM, which not only had a practical monopoly on interstellar commerce, but also local business and industry on many planets.
Politics and government[]
Governmental authority in the Milky Way Imperium was based on the planet Kaitain, with absolute authority theoretically vested in the ruling Padishah Emperor, but in practice sharing power with a political assembly called the Landsraad, much like the Galactic Senate within the Old Republic and Palpatine's Empire. Representation in the Landsraad was vested in human nobles of various houses, most of them belonging to House Corrino, House Atreides, and House Harkonnen. Some Landsraad seats were filled by appointment by the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, CHOAM, and the Spacing Guild.
Local government of individual planets and solar systems within the Milky Way Imperium was vested in noble rulers appointed by Houses Corrino, House Atreides, House Harkonnen, or minor houses.
Military and police forces included those owned by individual noble houses, CHOAM, and the Spacing Guild, as well as the feared Sardaukar legions under the direct command of the Padishah Emperor and the Landsraad. The Sardaukar rivaled the Galactic Empire's stormtroopers.
History[]
The Milky Way Imperium was founded before 10,000 BBY. The Imperium faced extragalactic invaders like the Slayers, the Orks, and the Yuuzhan Vong.
Between 9,000 BBY and 7,000 BBY, there was the so-called Butlerian Jihad, which saw computers and droids systematically destroyed and finally outlawed, as they were a threat to the authority of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood and the Spacing Guild, and there also was a growing religious bias against artificial intelligence being an affront to the human species and the so-called One True God.
The first contact with the galaxy of Galactic Prime, the Galactic Republic, and the Jedi Order took place in the year 878 BBY, and for several centuries thereafter the Milky Way Imperium attempted to invade Republic space but was always repelled.
During the time of Palpatine's Galactic Empire, relations were actual cordial between the two empires. Galactic Empire stormtroopers and Milky Way Imperium Sardaukar soldiers were borrowed by each other's regimes as mercenaries.
After the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, with the rise of the New Republic, the Milky Way Imperium actually debated whether to take over the Imperial Remnant, fight the New Republic, and try to take over Galactic Prime in order to turn the Imperium into a truly intergalactic regime. However, the ruling Padishah Emperor, Shaddam Corrino IV, nixed the idea after a debate within the Landsraad.
Population[]
The population of both the Milky Way Galaxy and the Milky Way Imperium was 99.99 percent human. There were very few non-human sentient species within the Imperium's borders.
