Marka Ragnos was a male Dark Lord of the Sith who reigned during the twilight years of the Sith Empire.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Marka Ragnos was born over five millennia before the Battle of Yavin and was a direct descendant of the Dark Jedi Exiles who had conquered the Sith during the Hundred-Year Darkness.[1] By 5155 BBY, he had become a powerful general, with the sorcerer Naucratis Simus serving under him.[2]
When Darth Dreadwar declared himself ruler of the Sith, the Kissai priests became wary of his rule and gathered under Ragnos, rallying the Massassi to their cause. Leading a revolt against Darth Dreadwar and his followers, Ragnos eventually confronted Dreadwar in combat and managed to dismember the Dark Lord after Simus successfully countered the spell that had freed Dreadwar's spirit from Nilrebmah XIII.[2]
Dark Lord of the Sith[]
Following Dreadwar's death, Marka Ragnos proceeded to turn against Simus and challenged him for the mantle of Dark Lord. Ragnos ultimately won after beheading Simus and was subsequently declared the Dark Lord of the Sith.[2][1] To his surprise, Simus managed to survive his decapitation by utilizing the arcane arts of Darth Andeddu. Wanting to learn Simus's secrets, Ragnos appointed him as head of his new Supreme Council.[2]
As Dark Lord, Ragnos led ruthless campaigns against his enemies as he solidified his rule, ushering a new Golden Age of the Sith.[1]
During his reign, Ragnos took interest in a young boy named Tenebrae who had successfully overthrown his father Dramath. Impressed by Tenebrae's power and ambition, Ragnos renamed him Lord Vitiate and made him ruler of Medriaas.[3]
In 5000 BBY, Marka Ragnos passed away, his death marking the end of the Golden Age of the Sith. While Naga Sadow successfully claimed the title, continued infighting saw to the Sith Empire's fall at the hands of the Galactic Republic.[1]
Post-mortem[]
In 5 ABY, Imperial Inquisitor Jerec set his sights on procuring the Scepter of Marka Ragnos in the hopes of using its Force-siphoning power to its advantage. Word of Jerec's quest reached Darth Vorath, who could not afford a rival in Jerec, and thus sent the specter of Darth Trayus to intervene. When Jerec and his Dark Jedi arrived at Ragnos' tomb, Trayus pitted them against an army of undead Sith before recruiting them into Vorath's Order. The newly-recruited acolytes then brought the Scepter to their new master.[4]
At some point, the Scepter of Ragnos was stolen and eventually ended up in the possession of a Commenori merchant. When the Scepter was purchased by the Dark Jedi Tavion Axmis, Vorath—hoping to reclaim the Scepter—convinced Axmis to accept the Sith's help in her cult's plot to resurrect Marka Ragnos. While Axmis agreed, the Disciples of Ragnos ultimately failed in their attempt to bring back the ancient Dark Lord thanks to the efforts of Jaden Korr, who subsequently destroyed the Scepter.
Legacy[]
After his death, Marka Ragnos was survived by a lineage of Sith Lords that resulted in the birth of Karok Ragnos, who served the Sith Empire of Lord Vitiate as the Emperor's Wrath.[5]
On Kesh, the Ragnos Lakes were named after the Dark Lord.[6] During the Mandalorian Wars, the last known copy of Ragnos' epistle was destroyed by the Jedi Shadow Celeste Morne.[7]
