Mandos was a planet in the Unknown Regions, inhabited by the Zeyote. It was a member world of the Golden Empire.

Geography[]

Much of Mandos was dominated by its grassy plains. The grass of Mandos, aside from being edible by most humanoids, was also distinct for its length, usually growing waist high on a Human. Many native animals, both predator and prey, were evolved to hunt primarily through smell and sound rather than sight. Among these were rodents up to a meter in size.

Snowy mountains also dotted Mandos's surface, and rare and beautiful flowers grew on their slopes. Some grew to gigantic size, reminiscent of those onFelucia.

Mandos was the only world in the early Golden Empire on which banthas lived natively. Zoologists were at a loss to explain this phenomenon; the most popular theory involved explorers from the known galaxy who had been transporting banthas and become lost in hyperspace.

Society and culture[]

The Zeyote, Mandos's native sentients, were a pacifistic, shamanistic group of nomads. As such, permanent settlements on Mandos were rare before the arrival of the Golden Empire, and even afterward most Zeyote preferred mobility. The Zeyote were united in a cultural refusal to remove their distinctive, shadowy hoods and reveal their faces until some unspecified time in the future, when they believed a prophecy would be fulfilled which would permit them to do so.

The Zeyote apparently practiced a polytheistic religion, as they viewed Rin Sakaros as their goddess of the dawn.

History[]

Little was known of the Zeyote or their homeworld before the arrival of the Golden Empire, though the Zeyote tradition of hoods seemed to stretch back to time immemorial. Geologists speculated that the ability of banthas and Zeyote to defend themselves against predators, and consequently create areas which predators avoided, might have contributed to the gigantism of both native flora and fauna.

The arrival of the Empire had less effect on the Zeyote than the presence of Rin Sakaros herself. All acclaimed her as their dawn goddess, and many believed it would be she who would bring about the legendary prophecy. Many Zeyote left Mandos to spread the word of Rin throughout the Golden Empire.

At some point, a Royal Army basic training facility was established on Mandos. The planet was attacked during the Nightmare War by Kasavo Shei and two Vyrak clones; the enemy force was confronted and defeated by Breek Zagrev, Jira Zaffrod, and Malyri and Kylaea Porén.
