The Mandator II-class Star Dreadnought was the third most powerful vessel class in the galaxy, superseded only by the Executor-class and the two Death Stars (though most experts refer to the Death Stars as battle-stations and not as actual ships, making the Mandator II-class the second-most powerful vessel in the galaxy).

History[]

Designed and built jointly by Kuat Drive Yards and Mandal Hypernautics to protect the ship yards of Kuat and other Core worlds from the CIS, the first Mandator II was the pride and joy of the Kuat engineers who dubbed their prototype Pride of the Core. The vessel never saw action, since no Separatist commander wanted to encounter it. Seeing the intimidation value of the vessel, Grand Moff Tarkin ordered the creation of a second Mandator II to add to the Tarkin Doctrine's call of 'using the fear of force rather than use force itself'. This vessel, named Apocalypta, was Tarkin's temporary flagship until he abandoned it in favor of the Death Star I. Apocalypta was slowly upgraded again and again by Mandal Hypernautics. Their engineers added seven HDMD-77 heavy dual Mass Driver Cannons positioned strategically on the hull in such a way that as long as the enemy ship isn't astern, all seven guns could bear on it. The vessel usually had a crew of three hundred thousand, but most of its systems could be controlled by AI and a skeleton crew of seventy thousand could smoothly operate the vessel in battle.

Sometime during the Galactic Civil War, Tyber Zann somehow blackmailed the chairman of Mandal Hypernautics and forced him to provide his Consortium with ships. After Admiral Antidar Madakor destroyed Mandal Hypernautic's ship yards over Mandalore, the corporation was unable to produce ships for Zann and gave him Apocalypta as compensation, along with two Legacy-class 'Super' Star Destroyers named Leviathan and Gargantuan. Zann accepted the vessels, but later feared that possessing the vessels would make the Consortium a bigger target. A perfect opportunity to get rid of them presented itself when Madakor defected from the Empire and set up his own New Republic in the Seswenna Sector in the Outer Rim. Zann gave the ships to Madakor to aid in the defense of Eriadu; although Zann himself never participated, the vessels were crewed by Consortium soldiers who answered to Madakor and later swore allegiance to him. Apocalypta also held a surprise: she had thousands of Spaarti cloning cylinders and a stock of Phase-I Clone Trooper armor, as well as over a thousand GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) vehicles in top condition. Madakor added this new clone army to the 7th Sky Corp. Following the battle and the merging with the Rebel Alliance, Apocalypta was renamed Pride of the Republic.

Following the scrapping of Pride of the Core, Pride of the Republic is now the only Mandator II-class Star Dreadnought in active service.
