Satine: “We're in the territories of the Mandalorian Republic. Other than their cultural identity and language, they don't relate too well with the rest of the sector. Asking what clan a local belongs to might even earn you the ill attention of the local security forces, as such practices have been outlawed here. They're like any government you'd find in your Core Worlds, but they're our dearest ally in these trying times.”
―Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine Kryze resupplying on Cheravh during the Mandalorian Civil War
The Mandalorian Republic was a democratic government that controlled the eastern half of the Mandalore sector until it ultimately merged with the New Mandalorian government. Members of the Mandalorian Republic and their political ideologies were known to other Mandalorians as republicans.
Description[]
Government[]
The Mandalorian Republic was ruled by an elected president, who oversaw government affairs from Concord Dawn. Each of the Mandalorian Republic's worlds were ruled by a governor, who each appointed a representative to serve in the Mandalorian Republican Parliament. The Mandalorian Republic's flag was simply the letters "M R" in the Mando'a script, often in blue, in the upper right hand corner with a yellow background.
Military[]
The government's military was the Mandalorian Republican Security Force. The force's space force, like most other planetary security forces in the galaxy, consisted of Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers. Mandalorian Republican infantry wore brown double-breasted uniforms with black blast vests and thermoplastic combat helmets; they often wielded A-280 blaster rifles in combat.
History[]
Seeking to distance themselves from Mandalore's reputations as warriors and mercenaries, several prominent Mandalorian clans rallied on Concord Dawn in 119 BBY and ousted the local warrior clans. Still in their traditional armor, the republicans proceeded to occupy Cheravh, Draboon, Gargon, Harswee, and Zanbar before inciting a major cultural shift that saw only the Mando'a language as a remnant of their ancestral culture, even going so far as to abolish the ancient clan system and punish ownership of the old armor with the threat of execution. They soon after joined the Galactic Senate and were granted entry into the Planetary Security Forces program, strengthening their security forces against the traditionalist insurgents that dwelt in their territories. Although they avoided direct contact with clans in other parts of the sector, including Mandalore itself, they provided financial aid to Mandalorian groups who had similar interests, such as the alliance of clans seeking pacifism known as the New Mandalorians.
In 60 BBY, inter-clan conflicts across the sector as well as insurgencies within their own territories escalated into the Mandalorian Civil War. Initially the republicans contained the civil war in their territories, though when clans in other parts of the sector gained access to large war fleets, and thus a means to efficiently invade other worlds, the Mandalorian Republic quickly faced jeopardy. They were forced to call upon the Republic Judicial Forces and form alliances with willing clans to defend against the traditionalists, though this effort would prove futile as within only a decade since the civil war's start Concord Dawn became once more dominated by warrior clans.
By the time the civil war ended in 32 BBY and the Mandalore system was secured under the burgeoning New Mandalorian government, the desperate republicans elected to merge what remained of their territory with the pacifists under Duchess Satine Kryze. The republicans formed their own political faction in the new government, seeing a rise of bipartisan politics as the republicans continued seeking to eradicate the clan system and symbols such as the Iron Heart and the Mythosaur Skull, while the reformists (to which Satine Kryze belonged) sought also to adopt a modernized, "Core World-like" system though still retain Mandalorian traditions.
